Chapter 32 -31: Pure (Stupid) Thoughts – Part 1

“What are you guys up to?” Mu Lin looked at the three people sprawled on the ground, asking with a hint of confusion.

On the ground? Comfortable?

“Could you… repeat what you just said? We seem to misunderstand.” The three quickly scrambled up from the ground, leisurely dusting off their clothes, and then sat down to reaffirm what they heard.

“It’s nothing important.” Did she really say anything?

“The next sentence.” The three of them reminded at the same time.

The next sentence?

Mu Lin furrowed her brows.

“Promise myself to you?”

Each of the three nodded enthusiastically.

“Oh.” Mu Lin understood, “I was just joking.”

Mu Lin didn’t know why she had asked that question all of a sudden. It was clearly a joke between them.

The three of them exhaled in relief, “That’s good.” It’s better if it’s not true, otherwise, it would be really terrifying.

Everyone in the compound knows who Jing Chen is: someone untouchable. Or else, he might mistreat you until you forget who your own parents are.

They had heard stories from people around Jing Chen’s age in the compound. Once, those people found Jing Chen’s arrogance unbearable, and tried to put him in his place. Unfortunately, they were defeated. They ended up spending three months in the hospital.

Just hearing Jing Chen’s name still sends a chill down their spine. After that incident, they respectfully refer to him as “Elder Jing”.

That monster is in a completely different league from the rest of them.

Well, those people definitely brought that upon themselves.

However, they heard that Jing Chen doesn’t treat women as women. Although Mu Lin is indeed beautiful, the phrase “promise myself to you” is something a man like Jing Chen would absolutely never utter.

Looking at the exaggerated reaction of the three men, Mu Lin thought that even without asking, she could probably guess what kind of person Jing Chen was.

Well, horrifying.

Sigh… Definitely not a suitable match.

So… Master, it’s not that your disciple doesn’t want to make an effort, but the target really is not easy to find.

If he is too weak, I am afraid I may scare him to death. If he is too strong, I worry about accidentally killing him.

So… I should just spend my life with Qiaozi.

Mu Lin sighed helplessly.

She slowly stood up, waved casually to the three guys, and turned towards the Jing family’s direction.

Watching Mu Lin’s figure gradually disappear around the corner, Xia Zeyang’s voice with a hint of depth sounded again.

“Do you really think she was just joking?” For some reason, he didn’t think so.

“What else could it be?” Yang Yuebin leaned sideways against a carved dragon pillar, laughing casually.

“Intuition tells me it’s not simply a joke.” Xia Zeyang continued, “Did you guys notice? When Mu Lin said that, she wasn’t actually asking us, it was more like it just slipped out without her realizing.”

Such words often hold more weight than a serious question – unless, of course, the speaker intentionally does so.

“Maybe you’re right.” Zhang Mingzhe muttered thoughtfully, his gaze settling on the distant corner, a depth in his eyes that was hard to fathom.

Although there may be a few exceptions, people in the compound are more contemplative than those outside.

“What do you think Mu Lin is?” Is she really just a simple Chinese medicine practitioner? Her sudden appearance today at the Jing house, in this compound, was it really just a coincidence?

“I don’t know.” Xia Zeyang shook his head. He couldn’t figure out this woman. She seems simple, yet… unfathomable.

“You guys are probably overthinking.” Yang Yuebin looked at the other two, talking to themselves, and got a bit bored, “I’m not sure what you guys are thinking, but I think she’s just being herself.”

Their intuition suggests to them that Mu Lin is not simple; but his intuition tells him that there’s nothing sinister about her.

Don’t ask him why, it’s just intuition.

“Let’s stop guessing. No matter what her motives are, we’re not the targets.” After a brief pause, Zhang Mingzhe spoke again, “Besides, she saved my life. It wouldn’t be right to doubt someone who did that.”

Zhang Mingzhe thought if Mu Lin really wanted something from them, saving his life was the perfect opportunity. But right after saving him she just said, “We’re even”.

Maybe, just like Yuebin assumed, Mu Lin is just Mu Lin, with no underlying motives. They’re probably just overthinking.

Xia Zeyang nodded, not saying anymore.

Maybe.

“Let’s go, it’s time to go home for lunch.”

Yang Yuebin shrugged off his concerns, jumped up, and headed towards the street.

Regardless of what his two buddies think about Mu Lin, Yang Yuebin had already decided: he was going to befriend her. Because his instincts told him she would be… interesting.

Sometimes, people with simpler minds are happier than those who overthink situations; because they are simple, they don’t have to beat around the bush, and thus their lives are simpler too.

Perhaps Yang Yuebin is a perfect example of a pure thinker! Of course, you could occasionally replace pure with… silly.

Or rather… very authentic!
