Chapter 81: Chapter 81:Mad people

Rael stared at the glowing wooden gate before him with a cold expression, tightening his grip on the two inscribed weapons he held. From the corner of his eye, he could see Iyvre also standing before the trembling gate, prepared to charge out.

Xaphxan and Yasmin stood on the tower outpost, while Ayobe stayed back at the center, kneeling before the array with her eyes closed.

"I’ll take on the vermin, if you don’t mind," Iyvre surprisingly remarked with a smile. It seemed she was trying to brighten the grim mood, making Rael chuckle before he turned his head toward the outpost where Xaphxan stood.

He gave a slow nod with a cold expression, a silent interaction that didn’t go unnoticed by Yasmin’s observant gaze, but she saw no reason to question it, especially not now as Rael raised his right leg and slammed it against the gate.

BAM!

The force of the kick flung the gates outward, sending the Withered spawns that had been attacking flying. Immediately slipping into his WarMaster’s Precision state, Rael dashed alongside the flung gate, swinging both his sword and axe in crisscrossing slashes, cutting into the many Withered Vermins that immediately charged toward the opening.

He held the sword in his left hand, using its sharp tip to pierce the many vermins that lunged at him, while his right hand wielded the axe, bashing mercilessly into those at his flanks. Though not an expert at dual-wielding, the WarMaster’s Precision made each attack land its mark, quickly turning his immediate surroundings into a zone of death.

A maddening smile couldn’t help but bloom across Rael’s lips as he dug deeper into the relentless wave with pure brute strength alone. He tilted his body to the side, quickly stabbing his sword downward to pin a vermin before using his free left palm to grab the next Withered bat that swooped down.

He immediately slammed it into the vermin already pinned by his sword, then brought his leg down heavily, stomping and turning the two Withered spawns into bloody pulps.

He gripped the sword afterwards before swinging the axe in a backhanded sweep, cutting through the jagged maws of pouncing Withered spawns. Then, he tossed the two weapons into the air before using opposing hands to grab them, with the sword now in his right.

He lunged, slashing continuously with the sword while using both the blunt and sharpened head of the axe to bash any Withered in his way as he made his way beyond the shallow crater.

The moment Rael became a mad killing machine within the midst of the Withered spawns, Iyvre herself could be said to have become a gust of death herself. She blurred through the midst of the Withered spawns, with each appearance of her figure causing the bodies of the Withered within that spot, above or below, to be dissected into pieces.

And just like Rael, she dove deeper into the wave, drawing more and more Withered toward herself; yet none could even get close to her, for a white beam of light flashed continuously around her, slicing through dozens of Withered with each change in direction.

She leaped high above as the Withered spawns swooped and leaped toward her, only for her to twist mid-air into a roll, swinging her white blade alongside the celestial sword and turning into a brief, slanted tornado of death that split through the wave.

From the tower outpost, Yasmin turned her gaze away from the two slaughtering machines that seemed to make their way deeper into the wave.

Her eyes fell onto the spot, previously blocked by the still-relentless wave gnawing at the fences, where she’d thrown the last of her seeds. She clenched her fist as a blooming smile crossed her face, for a certain force was rising from that spot, making the Withered spawns at that side of the fences turn their frenzied attention toward the rising lifeform.

Boom!

Roots erupted, slapping and flinging the Withered spawns away as a creature made of brownish, twisted roots merged its torso to the caved-in floor it had sprouted from.

Yasmin burst into laughter at the being she’d manage to summon, a treant with countless roots sprouting from its torso and a cracked tree bark forming an enraged face. The creature bellowed in an enraged roar as each of its roots took on a sharpened tip, plunging deeply into the bodies of the Withered spawns.

Then several of its roots crisscrossed and wrapped themselves into a big wooden club that bashed several Withered spawns away

Xaphxan was flabbergasted at what he’d seen. He couldn’t believe Yasmin had summoned a creature, which wasn’t meant to be possible for an iron adept at all. He stared at her as she laughed wildly at her successful spell.

’ I’m surrounded by mad people’, Xaphxan felt a shiver cross his spine, before strengthening his own resolve as he peered at Rael, who was deep into the slaughter waiting for his signal.

Yasmin admired her summon, even though she had no way of controlling the creature ,which might have even made it attack her instead. However, it seemed the Withered spawns attracted a primal hatred within it that caused it to smash and pierce the bodies of the spawns around the fences with rage.

Her eyes were immediately drawn to the glowing spots of the fences that suddenly coalesced and fired aether bolts into the fray, blasting dozens of Withered Vermins apart.

"It might not be so bad after all," she snickered before jumping over the fences, her two palms lighting up with flames.

Iyvre had spotted the big Withered vermin, the second Withered husk that kept slamming its massive head against the ground, tearing and even gnawing on itself.

’It is rejecting that thing’s control’, Iyvre concluded, seeing this as an opportunity to slay the Withered husk before either side took full control. Yet, as if by command, more Withered spawns swarmed toward her to stop her from reaching the Withered husk.

"Tsk." With a hiss, she slashed her blade downward, ducking her head with the motion as a white beam of light swooshed toward the Withered husk.
