Chapter 80: Chapter 80:Uruz enhancement

"Has he gone mad?" Yasmin pondered from the outpost where she stood, watching Xaphxan being forced to etch runes on Rael’s skin was nothing short of brutal, but yet it was admirable to her.

It was obvious their situation wasn’t the best, as they were being assailed by a wave that even a mid-tier territory would find troublesome, if not dire.

She shifted her attention back to the seeds held in her clasped hands, ignoring the relentless gnawing and clawing at the fences.

She scrutinized the seeds in her palms, which started growing tiny red veins, making a flicker of doubt cross her determined expression. After all, what she was doing was imitating a spell of a certain noble lineage, one that would have led to her being hunted by the said lineage but she never really gave a fuck and had always kept this spell as a trump card.

"Huff." She breathed slowly onto the seeds that were beginning to squirm. "Oh, please don’t fail me," before whispering and then pouring a large amount of her aether into them and tossing them beyond the fences, letting them fall among the piled-up bodies of the Withered spawns.

Rael stifled a groan as he directed Xaphxan on which spots to carve the Uruz rune, causing Xaphxan to rethink whether the Withered or this mad boss of his was more to be feared.

Yet, even though he’d basically turned Rael’s torso into an art piece of Uruz runes, he noticed they were slowly healing in what he could only make out as an abnormal pace. This eventually answered so many questions he had about how his boss kept getting back up, regardless of how much he’d been battered.

He finally drew the last rune on Rael’s left wrist before smearing the last drop of Colosape’s blood on it, making Rael look like an almost fully tattooed person ,except the tattoos were of the same shape and were blood-red, with blood still dripping from the newly drawn ones.

"Good job," Rael praised, even though he knew he’d forced Xaphxan to do something he probably didn’t like. "One more thing. Now, recite these words exactly as you hear them," Rael added, causing Xaphxan to hide his sigh before nodding.

Rael recited the necessary incantations needed to activate the Uruz, with Xaphxan repeating after him. Rael felt a burning sensation rise at each spot where the Uruz runes were located.

The sensation started to rise to a burning level as each of the runes sizzled, causing Xaphxan to freeze and step back in trepidation which made Rael to glare at him.

"Don’t stop," he growled, snapping Xaphxan back, who only gritted his teeth as he continued the incantations, following word for word what Rael said. Rael bore through the pain until finally he finished the incantations, making the runes dim as a tingling sensation from each of the symbols spread to the part they lay upon.

It caused Rael to feel a lightness come upon him, even though his skin had gained some extra weight, and not just his skin, but his muscles as well. They seemed to tighten even more, making Rael’s already muscular torso look even more jacked and ripped.

Rael rose to his feet amidst the lightness he felt. He clenched his fist as crackling sounds erupted from his hand.

’Mmm, quite odd. Why do I feel lighter instead?’ he wondered, before glancing toward a slab rock that lay within the House of Alchemy. He then shifted his head toward Xaphxan.

"Let’s find out if the burning pain was worth it or just a waste of time," he jeered at Xaphxan, who couldn’t help but grimace.

’Well It was your fucking idea to begin with! ’Of course, he kept that to himself.

Rael reached the slab, knowing full well that even without the Uruz enhancement, the slab was a thing he could crumble with his fist if he added a tiny bit of aether to it. So Instead, he opted to grab at the slab with his right hand before clenching it without his usual use of aether, immediately making cracks spread across it. Rael’s eyes brightened before clenching further, causing the rock to crumble into rubbles.

"Hehehe, what do you think of that? Worth it?" Rael questioned Xaphxan with a sly smile,

Xaphxan didn’t even know what to say because, unlike Rael, who carried the enhancements, there was no way he could know how much it added to Rael’s strength.

And speaking of knowing how much it added, Rael chose to check his status panel to confirm.

He was amazed to find how much his strength seemed to have increased, but at the same time, he took note of the debuffs it came with as well. Though he felt lighter, it seemed his agility had still been affected negatively, and what even surprised him was his endurance, which had been affected as well.

’Mmm, it would seem this would cause a lot of bodily fatigue, if not damages, he murmured to himself already prepared for the worse anyways ,turning to Xaphxan he patted him on the shoulder.

"Thank you, I know you didn’t want to do that, but there’s one more thing," he said with a mad grin that made Xaphxan shiver.

Iyvre had watched what Rael had done to his skin and the enhancements that followed, but unlike Yasmin, who saw it as admirable, she saw it as a desperate act even though it earned her respect, she knew Rael was up to something, and whatever it may be, she was certain it would definitely be reckless. So, she had already concluded in her mind to play the same game Rael had in mind, which was to lure that being out of hiding. While she was sure it was a thing of horrors and myths, she was certain it had yet to reach such a stage yet, for if it had, she doubted they’d still be alive anyway
