Married To The Ruthless Billionaire For Revenge-Chapter 55: The Message Left In The Dark
Chapter 55 — THE MESSAGE LEFT IN THE DARK
The storm had not eased.
Lightning split the night sky beyond the walls of Adrian’s estate, illuminating the gardens in harsh, fleeting flashes. And every time the light flared, Elena flinched—not from the thunder, but from the memory of the voice she thought she’d never hear again.
Her brother.
Alive.
Watching her.
Her hands still trembled from the revelation, though she tried to hide it as she sat at the long marble table in Adrian’s private study. The room was warm, safe, lit by soft amber lamps... but Elena felt none of that safety.
Not when pieces of her past were crawling out of the shadows.
Adrian stood across the table, phone in one hand, his other hand pressed against the edge of the desk as if anchoring himself. Marcus and Ward arrived minutes ago, soaked from rain, each wearing expressions carved from stone.
"Elena," Marcus said gently, "we need to ask you a few things. Only if you can handle it."
Her voice was barely steady. "I can."
Adrian’s gaze cut sharply to her, protective in a way that made Marcus lift his hands slightly as though saying he meant no harm.
"Be careful," Adrian warned him. "She’s not your suspect."
"Never said she was," Marcus replied. "But whoever is stirring all this up is using her life as the center of their map. If we don’t understand the past, we can’t predict the next move."
Adrian didn’t like it—but he didn’t stop him.
Marcus pulled out a small file and set it on the table.
"Elena, the brother you lost... what do you remember about his death?"
Her eyes burned. "Everything." 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
She clasped her fingers tightly to stop them from shaking.
"He was seventeen," she began quietly. "We lived in an old house in the countryside. One evening he went out to get medicine for my mother. He never came back."
She swallowed hard.
"The police said he was attacked. That he died instantly. That there was no body left to identify... only his wallet, a burned jacket, and traces of blood."
Ward crossed his arms. "Convenient."
Elena looked up sharply. "It wasn’t convenient. It destroyed my family."
"I don’t doubt that," Ward said. "But it was convenient for whoever wanted him gone."
Marcus opened the file. "Before tonight, we found nothing unusual. But now..." He slid a printed report toward Adrian. "There’s proof someone withdrew money in your brother’s name several years after his supposed death."
Elena froze.
"No," she whispered. "That’s impossible."
"It’s real," Marcus said. "And it wasn’t a mistake. The bank signature matches the partial print we lifted from your old belongings."
Elena shook her head.
"My brother wouldn’t hide from me. He wouldn’t disappear."
Marcus didn’t argue.
Ward didn’t interrupt.
Adrian crossed the room and crouched beside her, lifting her chin gently with his hand.
"Elena," he said softly, "if he’s alive, it means someone forced him into the shadows. Or convinced him you were safer without him."
Her eyes filled with tears she fought to hold back.
"Why?" she whispered. "Why would anyone do that to my family?"
Adrian’s voice deepened, turning colder. "Because someone wanted control. And your family had something they wanted."
Marcus cleared his throat. "We also found something else."
He slid a small clear evidence bag across the table.
Inside was a folded piece of dark paper. Damaged around the edges. Damp from rain.
Elena’s blood went cold.
Adrian opened the bag and unfolded the paper.
A symbol was drawn on it—one she recognized instantly.
A small black circle, cut cleanly in half.
Her voice cracked. "That was the mark on the envelope after my brother died. I saw it when I was young. I thought it belonged to the police."
"It doesn’t," Marcus said. "It’s a crest. A signature. A mark of a private organization—something old, something hidden, something dangerous."
Adrian’s eyes sharpened. "Who leads it?"
Marcus exhaled slowly. "We don’t know yet. But someone placed the same symbol outside Elena’s door tonight."
Adrian’s jaw tightened. "So the intruder wanted to send a message."
Ward nodded. "Two messages. Daniel’s presence was one. This symbol is the second."
Elena felt the room tilt.
"What does it mean?" she whispered.
Ward leaned forward. "It means the game didn’t start with Adrian and his father. It didn’t start with your marriage. It didn’t start with the accident that pulled you into his world."
He paused, eyeing her with a seriousness that made her stomach drop.
"It started with you, Elena. Years ago."
Elena felt the air leave her lungs.
"That symbol," Marcus continued, "was also found in old business files connected to Adrian’s father."
Adrian’s eyes snapped up. "My father?"
Marcus nodded. "He’s involved more deeply than he admits."
Adrian’s expression shifted from cold to lethal.
"Ward," he said sharply, "bring my father here. Now."
Elena grabbed his hand quickly. "Adrian—wait."
He turned, eyes dark and dangerous. "Elena, your life is being threatened. Your past is being weaponized. And my father has answers he refused to give."
She felt her voice tremble. "Your father might be hiding things... but what if he’s also in danger? What if—"
"Elena," Adrian whispered, stepping close again, "I will protect you. But I need the truth, and he has it."
Before she could respond, Ward’s phone buzzed.
He looked down.
His face drained of color.
"Sir," he said quietly, eyes lifting toward Adrian. "We have a new problem."
Adrian stiffened. "What now?"
Ward swallowed. "Your father is gone."
Elena’s breath hitched. "Gone where?"
Ward locked eyes with Adrian.
"He’s missing."
Adrian’s expression froze into something colder than ice.
Marcus straightened. "What do you want us to do?"
Adrian didn’t blink.
"Shut the estate," he ordered. "No one enters. No one leaves. Find my father."
Then he turned to Elena.
His voice softened—but the fire beneath it burned hotter than ever.
"Elena... this isn’t just your past anymore."
He reached for her hand, holding it with a rare gentleness.
"It’s ours."
She looked up at him through trembling lashes.
"Then we face it together."
His jaw clenched.
"We will."
But as he pulled her close, lightning flashed again—revealing the same symbol on the outer balcony glass.
It hadn’t been there minutes ago.
Ward rushed to see it.
Marcus swore.
Elena’s heart pounded.
Adrian’s grip tightened against her spine.
Someone wasn’t just watching.
They were inside the circle of their lives.
And they wanted Elena to know it.
