Chapter 61: You dislike self control?

Cyrus set the nine-tailed fox on the ground and approached her, cupping her face. His amused smile transformed into a seductive smile sending chills to her spine.

"I did not, but I will soon." Cyrus replied, leaning in close to her.

Sage wasn’t sure whether she should be relieved or not.

"I want to kill him myself." She growled angrily and clutched his wrists.

Cyrus nodded. "All right," he said, chuckling.

Sage’s eyes turned a fiery red and narrowed at him. "Too many things have happened tonight."

"Which of them is your favourite, parrot?" Cyrus inquired, caressing her cheeks.

Sage’s eyes returned to normal, her lips trembling as she tried to conceal her smile. "The bath," she finally said, smiling.

"Time to sleep." Sage was surprised that he wasn’t questioning her about her strange dream.

"D..."

"Sleep." Cyrus let go of her face, took her hand in his, and led her to the bed.

Sage eventually gave in and fell asleep in Cyrus’ arms.

When he was certain she had fallen asleep, he placed his blue glowing fingers on her head and ran his fingers through her silky red hair.

"This will temporarily cut off the connection to the sea of blood."

...

She felt a cold breath fanning her face nonstop, causing her extreme discomfort as she was extremely tired. She wanted to scream in rage, but as her lips parted, she heard a snarl, causing her eyes to fly open in surprise, meeting fierce blue slit ones.

It was Snowflake, and he didn’t seem happy as he stared at her. Sage was blinded by the cuteness of the nine-tailed fox and didn’t notice.

"Hello there," she said, sat down, and took her fox into her arms.

She looked around the brighter room. It didn’t appear to be morning.

"It seems I slept for a long while." She muttered to herself and looked back at the nine tailed fox in her arms.

"Snowflake, I am having a severe headache." She groaned at the nine tailed fox who was staring at her with full disinterest.

Sage sighed deeply, slowly caressing the nine-tailed fox.

"Find it! The lost portal of Statkus! The lost secrets and information of the mages are kept there!" Her mother’s voice echoed in her head.

Cyrus had told her that Katherine and the mages had fled, which meant they were safe. All of the older mages were wiped out, and later, humans began conceiving mages, resulting in only young mages remaining with no older and wiser ones to teach them. They had to learn and strive on their own, building their strength through simple skills and books they could find.

"Statkus.." Sage trailed thoughtfully.

If she could find the portal and enter the world, she could gather a wealth of information to aid her and the mages in their efforts to establish a new nation. It might also help her find some answers.

But how was she going to find the portal? She had no one to ask without Cyrus finding out... She didn’t want him to get involved because he had his own problems.

"The ice dragon is and will always be a threat that must be eliminated."

That being sounded exactly like her mother, and Sage was astounded that she could tell who was her real mother just by hearing her voice.

Even though she didn’t fully comprehend what happened in there, she knew she had to find that portal. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

Sage couldn’t help but disagree with the statement being made. "The ice dragon is and will always be a threat that must be eliminated."

She smiled as she looked at the nine-tailed fox.

"Even though he wants to kill me in order to take my fire core, I am sure it is for a very good reason.. maybe life and death. He did say he did something terrible and wished to undo it. He will not kill me if it is not for a good reason." Sage said to the fox and mentally slapped herself.

Had she truly come to trust Cyrus to the point of her life?

Sage laughed at her pitiful self. "He is going to break it." Her voice shook, and her grip on the nine-tailed fox shook.

Sage took a deep breath in and out. "Where has Cyrus gone?" She inquired placing the nine-tailed fox on the bed and getting out of bed.

She bathed, changed her clothes, and dressed herself.

When she opened her door to leave the room, she was met by Arthur, who appeared slightly pale.

"Are you alright?!" With a gasp, she inquired.

Arthur nodded and smiled weakly. "Certainly, my queen." Sage rolled her eyes as he lied.

"Rest, it is probably the cold." She told him worriedly.

"The cold has been fading, so I am confident that it is not the cold, my queen." Arthur told her with a forced smile.

Sage gave him a worried look. He was correct; the cold was getting better. What did it mean?

"I still think you should take a break." He nodded as she told him.

"I will," he said, bowing his head. "I appreciate your concern." Sage gave him a sliver of a smile as he said gratefully and lifted his head. "Please his Majesty join for brunch." He said and turned away.

"Wait!" He came to a halt and turned to face Sage. "Do not be so formal; call me Sage, which is my given name." He smiled nervously as she told him.

"Oh, I am sorry if I offended you." He laughed.

"No, no, I just prefer being called Sage instead of "My Queen." She informed him.

"Alright then," He said and turned away once more. "Come with me, Sage," he said in a stiff awkward tone that made her shake her head and laugh.

.

The mansion was beautiful, and every corner reminded her of Cyrus, as did the smell.

Sage couldn’t stop smiling, and her smile widened when they entered the dining room. The table was laden with delectable treats, including a large-sized cheese cake.

Cyrus’ expression was grim, but she couldn’t see it as her gaze was fixed on the table.

She sat down next to Cyrus and finally looked at his face.

"Is there something wrong?" She inquired, perplexed.

"Leave." Cyrus said to Arthur in a commanding tone, and then he left.

Cyrus turned to face her and sighed deeply. "How do you feel?" He asked abruptly, his expression softening and his eyes holding a strange emotion.

"Better than before, not as weak, and I am regaining my normal complexion." Sage smiled in response. "Why?" She inquired, curiously.

Cyrus hummed.

"Eat."

Sage could tell something was bothering him despite what he said.

"Is there a problem? Did I do something wrong?" Sage inquired, perplexed. She didn’t want him to be angry with her; it made her heart tighten, and she had never expected to feel that way for him.

"No. No."

Sage frowned deeply and slammed her hands angrily on the table.

"What is the matter with you?! Can’t we just act normal for a change? Last night was actually a beautiful night for me even though you didn’t... You had such good self-control, which was not what I wanted! I saw fear and worry in your eyes, experienced care from you, and now you are acting like a child?!" Sage yelled angrily.

Cyrus’ brow furrowed, his lips pursed, and he turned to face her.

"You dislike self-control?" He asked sinisterly and stood up.

Sage kept her frown while he smirked and titled his head to the side.

"Why won’t I act like a child when I know you do not want to carry me in your heart?"
