Chapter 289: 2000 Years Prisoner [2]

"I already told you... stop looking at me like that. It’s annoying." The man said, casting his gaze back to the ground.

Kronos didn’t reply, only stepping closer to the strange man.

He stepped merely a few meters away from the sigil, his face squeezing into another frown.

While he wasn’t sure about the exact date what he saw happened, he could tell it was in a future timeline... probably one which no longer existed.

’A withered future timeline... a manaless mage...’ He mumbled inwardly, the expression on his face darkening with each realisation.

’Does he manage to escape... later in the future?’ He thought, narrowing his eyes at the prisoner before him.

For something to happen that even he couldn’t remember, despite being present there... it meant danger was coming.

Not just for him and the rest of the celestials, but for the whole universe!

Clang!

"Hehe..." The man’s chuckle broke him out of his thoughts, as well as the heavy clanging of the chains.

"I can tell this won’t end well for me." He said, hissing under his breath. "But that doesn’t change anything... I can smell it; the thick aura of death shrouding you."

He panted, pulling on the chains as his lips slowly curled into a smirk.

"You can’t stop whatever’s coming. No matter what you do, you won’t be able to Kronny. Hahahaa!" He said, breaking out in a hysterical chuckle.

Each laugh that escaped his lips sent pain wracking every part of his body, but he endured, laughing to his heart’s content just to mock Kronos.

Kronos on the other hand, didn’t seem too happy about this development.

He gnashed his teeth, his eyes blazing with fury as he stared at the man.

"You’re right about one thing..." He said, his words laced with hate and disgust.

"This won’t end well for you." He continued, suddenly snapping his fingers.

Thin white runes immediately appeared all over the chains, shining even more intensely than the last time.

The sigils rapidly expanded, more chains crawling out of them.

The chains tightly wrapped around the man’s body, mercilessly digging into his skin as they pulled him towards the ground.

They covered his body completely like snakes, leaving nothing except for the thin gaps around the chains.

"Hmpphh!!" The man’s grunt was quickly swallowed up by the chains covering his mouth, rendering him helpless as his arms were painfully stretched to the side.

His body spasmed uncontrollably, blood gushing out from all his orifices, however, they were greedily consumed by the chains.

Clang!

More chains dropped from the sigils, forming a thick cage around the man, casting him into darkness.

All that could be heard from the chain prison were his muffled grunts of agony.

Kronos smirked, slowly stepping away from the sigils.

’That should teach you to watch your tongue.’ He thought, scoffing in annoyance.

’I originally wanted to ask for his help... but not anymore.’ He walked away, leaving the blue-eyed man to his torment.

A thin door frame swiftly materialised in front of him, and he passed through it, appearing back in the previous room.

"Ugh!" He suddenly grunted, tightly clutching his chest.

Blood slowly dripped down the corners of his lips, forming a small pool beneath his chin.

’Not again...’ He thought, stumbling to the ground while clutching his chest.

But unfortunately, the pain only kept increasing no matter what he did, plunging him into an endless cycle of torment.

To make things worse, he didn’t know the root of the pain... so he couldn’t directly counter it from the source.

All he had was the vague image of a person shrouded in white light, which wasn’t helping at all.

’A future timeline... that I can’t remember, and a manaless mage.’ Kronos thought, slowly rising back up on his feet, albeit with difficulty.

He couldn’t imagine how embarrassing it would be if the other celestials saw him in this terrible state.

Due to his strange ageing, they had started growing suspicious of him... feeling that he was hiding something from them.

Except for him, none of the other celestials retained any memory from the old timeline.

He had been covering up all these years, acting like it was merely a toll due to him jumping through time non-stop—which wasn’t exactly wrong.

However, he couldn’t keep hiding the truth forever.

Usually, he would have told them all the moment the flashes started, but the case was very complicated this time.

He didn’t have solid knowledge about what really happened in the said timeline, and trying to explain the flashes would only make him look stupid.

Besides, something had been bugging his mind since he met that man.

Though he didn’t want to admit it, he knew there were only two logical answers to the hole in his memory.

Since the withered timeline was in the future, it was either that man somehow managed to escape under their noses... or another manaless mage had awakened.

’It might be a little far-fetched, but my senses can never be wrong!’ He thought, lightly tapping his aching chest.

’I have to remember... the name of ’that’ planet. From there, I’ll know where to start.’

Swish!

A small green clock immediately appeared above his hand, thin ethereal tendrils extending from the sides.

The hands of the weird clock kept rotating back and forth, both clockwise and anticlockwise.

The tendrils shot out, latching onto the sides of his head.

’I have to pull out that memory, no matter what!’ Kronos thought, gritting his teeth in agony.

His eyes suddenly rolled to the back of his head, replaced by a thin green line.

His body spasmed uncontrollably as his life started flashing before his eyes, sending waves of pain through his body.

After a few seconds, he finally returned to normal, and the tendrils slowly retracted from his head.

The clock in his hand rapidly dissolved into tiny fragments, vanishing into thin air.

Kronos sighed, dropping to his knees in exhaustion.

"Even after all that... I still couldn’t remember." He muttered, casting his gaze to the ground in disappointment.

Unbeknownst to him, the major reason his memories about the old timeline were locked was due to Leon’s energy.

If the time rewind spell had been cast by any other elemental mage, he would surely be able to remember every little detail about it.

But unfortunately, Leon was no ordinary mage, possessing an energy far above what the celestials wielded.

’As expected... manaless mages are so troublesome.’ Kronos thought, cupping his face in frustration.

However, he was still able to get one little detail about the planet.

"The name of the planet... Eartyl...?" He mumbled, trying to piece together the bits of information that came to his mind.
