Chapter 289: Arielle’s Curiosity

"Hm... I’ll go after you kiss me," Ronan replied bluntly.

Arielle glanced to the left and to the right. There were several guards standing in the corridor. Ronan was so amused seeing her confused expression. The girl stepped forward, then turned to face him. She touched his shoulder to kiss the man’s mask, but their height difference was far enough that her kiss just hung in the air.

Arielle tried to pull Ronan’s body several times, but that man remained firmly in place. No matter how high she tipped her toes, her face could only touch the man’s neck. Seeing her struggling to give him a kiss, he chuckled.

Arielle gave up and looked at Ronan annoyed.

"Stop teasing me," she scolded him in a whisper, worried if someone would hear her.

"What?" asked Ronan in a clueless tone.

"Didn’t you ask for a kiss earlier?"

Ronan was even more amazed to see Arielle narrow her eyes. "Indeed, I was waiting for my kiss, but not a kiss on the mask, Arielle. I know you plan to kiss my mask and then run away, right?"

Arielle turned her face away while pouting her lips. "N-no, you’re wrong."

Ronan hugged Arielle once more. The girl had done the same thing before, and he would not be fooled twice. In the past, after taking her to the festival, he received a kiss as a gift but was blocked by the cloth covering his face. When he asked for the kiss again, the girl bolted to her room.

Ronan took off his mask. "Now, do it again," he said, bending down so that their faces were equal without Arielle needing to pull his shoulders or tiptoeing high.

Arielle noticed the expectant face of the man in front of her. She glanced sideways at a guard standing far from them, then bit her lower lip. Ronan still had his eyes closed, waiting for her kiss.

Arielle lifted her index and middle fingers to her lips. She kissed her two fingers briefly, then pressed them to Ronan’s lips.

When Ronan wanted to protest, Arielle immediately put the man’s mask back down and ran to her room.

"Arielle!" call Ronan.

Arielle continued to run, ignoring his call. Arriving on the second floor, she approached the balcony to look down on the first floor. Ronan was still standing where he was, looking up at her.

She laughed loudly.

"Sorry, it’s getting late. Lots of wolves are roaming around, so I have to get back to my room immediately!" said Arielle from the balcony.

Beneath his mask, Ronan smiled widely from ear to ear.

"In the future, if you are caught by me, I won’t care about our agreement. Be careful with the games you play, Arielle." Ronan warned her.

Arielle didn’t seem to take Ronan’s warning seriously. The girl stuck out her tongue and then laughed out loud. Her long hair dangled so beautifully. Her laughter rang in his head even after she had left.

Ronan still looked up to see Arielle who had left after mocking him.

"Shit, I want to fuck her."

Arielle came to her room with her new book. She couldn’t stop herself from giggling all the way down the hall. After arriving at her room, she lay down on the bed and buried her face in the pillow to hide the shame she had felt since teasing Ronan.

"What have I done?" Arielle asked herself. Even so, she could not hide her happiness. Sometimes, she laughed like a child who had just met her new playmate.

The book that Ronan gave earlier caught Arielle’s attention. Her happiness subdued and was replaced by a new curiosity. She took her pillow to bring to the fireplace.

She flipped the first page open. The biodata of Priestess Unor and her journey in the Foresham Continent which took her seven years was written there. After devoting herself to Cathedral, Priestess Unor went with her teacher to explore the continent at the age of twenty-one. The teacher died while they were in the Thebis Kingdom, in their fifth year of exploring.

After seven years of exploring, Priestess Unor returned to Northendell with a lot of new knowledge she had gained from her journey. She dedicated her time and all her knowledge to Cathedral.

The King of Northendell, who didn’t have a partner, chose Priestess Unor to be his wife so that Priestess Unor would have power to manage the Cathedral because, in Northendell, the Queen had the responsibility to manage anything related to the Cathedral.

Arielle spent her time reading about the definition of mana. She had read some basic books about it, but with Priestess Unor’s book, Arielle could understand it better.

"So, all humans have the same opportunity to form mana according to environmental conditions."

One by one Arielle read the pages carefully. Her reading ability had gotten better. By getting used to recognizing some familiar letters, she could read the word patterns and read the book without having to repeat to understand the contents.

There was one page that made Arielle interested. It was the story where Priestess Unor met a group of people in Thebis who performed a ritual of burning humans alive once every hundred years.

The goal was to find a high priest. There was no record of what a high priest meant. Priestess Unor just wrote that they were looking for human candidates who would come back alive even after the hottest fire burned their bodies.

"If they gobble the fire like the clothes they wear, then that person is the chosen one. However, the elders say that it’s been hundreds of years, and they haven’t gotten the miracle yet."

Arielle looked at the fire beside her nervously. The last time she tried to burn her hand on a candle, she couldn’t do it because Tania had suddenly barged into her room. She looked towards her bedroom door. It was already night, and it was likely that Tania had returned to her room to rest. Ronan was also unlikely to appear.
