Chapter 280: [Bonus Chapter]Mr. Persimmon

The news of King Archie’s coronation had spread throughout the kingdom. King Archie’s reign had begun.

The news of the destruction of the Nieverdell palace slowly began to be forgotten and replaced by the latest news. Everyone flocked to the capital city to see the parade of the king.

A little girl carried a basket filled with strawberries and a second-hand newspaper in her other hand. She couldn’t read, but he kept looking at the faces of the new king of Nieverdell and Princess Arielle. On her head, there was a crown of thin twigs decorated with colorful flowers.

The girl walked down the village path without taking her eyes off the picture of Princess Arielle. Even when people greeted her, she ignored them.

Because she was walking without looking at the road, the girl tripped and fell on her knees, causing some of her strawberries to fall on the ground. Her shabby clothes that already had a few small ripped parts were torn apart even bigger.

"Princess, please look at the road in front of you when you are walking," said a farmer in the field who then walked over to help the child.

That girl who is called a princess, she is not a real princess, she just an ordinary village girl who is spoiled by the locals and called her a princess because because she likes to pretend to act like a princess.

That child cursed quietly, seeing the strawberries she brought from home had been spoiled.

"A princess shouldn’t swear," said the farmer, laughing at the child’s reddened face due to holding back her anger. "Where do you want to go on a hot day like this?"

"Grandma told me to bring that guy lunch and bring him the latest newspaper at the same time."

"Ah, that man," he muttered. "Then, wait here for a moment!"

The farmer ran back to his field. He opened his lunch basket and took out a sheet of whole-wheat bread and a half jar of peanut butter.

"Give it to him. He helped me find my goat that ran away last night. I also want to thank him."

The girl took all the dirty strawberries out of her basket and let the farmer refill her basket with bread and peanut butter.

"Say my gratitude to him."

"Got it, Old man," she replied, lowering her body to pay him respects like a noblewoman. The man just shook his head and chuckled at her cuteness, then returned to his farm.

That girl continued walking down the path to higher ground. Arriving at a field, she looked for a large tree for shelter. Under the tree, there was a man who was sleeping with a straw hat covering his face.

The girl put her hands on her hips to look at the fields in front of her. She shook her head in disappointment. Before approaching, she pulled her sleeves up to her elbows. She took off the sleeping man’s straw hat and placed the lunch basket in his face until he gasped in pain.

"What the–"

"My grandmother has taken good care of you. At least help grandma by harvesting the strawberries."

That man got up while rubbing his sore nose. He glanced at the little girl beside him who was giving him an annoyed expression.

"I just rested. Look, I’ve harvested a lot today," he replied guiltily. His chin pointed at one big basket full of strawberries.

"That’s not a reason for you to be lazy."

"Alright... alright... I’ll get back to my work."

He got up and put his straw hat back on. He crouched in front of the vines in front of him. He picked strawberries with one hand because because his other hand was cut off.

"Hey, Peach! What’s my lunch today?" shouted the man from where he was harvesting strawberries. "Not another leftover strawberries, right?"

"No! Whole wheat bread and peanut butter!" replied the girl named Peach while spreading the peanut butter on the bread the farmer had given and then eating it alone.

Peach hummed softly at the scene in front of her. The location of the field was quite far from the village where she lived. She lived in an remote village. It takes a few days for them to go to the capital city.

And suddenly ... a few days ago, she found a half-dead person on a river. That guy said he didn’t even remember his name.

"Hey, sir! Do you still not remember your name?"

The man was silent for a moment, then shook his head. "If you have some free time, how about you come up with a name for me?" replied the man.

"Hm... name? What about Simon?"

"Simon?"

"Taken from the name of the Persimmon fruit!"

The man looked back and laughed.

"You want me to be your twin by having a fruit name as a name, Peach?" The man was surprised to see the bread in Peach’s hand. He paced towards the girl. "Don’t tell me it’s my lunch bread!"

"I’m hungry," Peach replied curtly.

"Peach.... I even left before you guys woke up and haven’t filled my stomach with anything."

The man lay limp under the tree, clutching his rumbling stomach. Without feeling sorry, Peach ate the piece of bread in her hand. She picked up the rest of the strawberries that had not fallen on the ground earlier and dipped them in the peanut butter.

She put it in front of the man’s mouth and he couldn’t help but accept a strawberry to fill his stomach.

"I’m going to take a break," the man said.

"Oh, I brought you the latest newspaper as you requested."

Peach took the newspaper out of the basket and hit it lightly on the man’s forehead.

"Simon," Peach called, making the man laugh.

"Did I give consent that my name is Simon?" he said.

"Or do you want to use the name Alexis instead? I heard our Crown Prince is dead then that name is free for us to use, right? I heard he was the most handsome prince! But I never saw his face before, so I’m a bit curious. It’s a waste he passed away at a such young age. So, how about it? Alexis is a fine name!"

The man’s face changed drastically. There was a gloomy feeling surrounding him, but it didn’t last long. "I prefer Simon."

"Too bad, your preference is bad."

That man opened the newspaper and read the news on the front page. A faint smile formed on his lips when he saw the beaming faces of Archie and Arielle who were in the same carriage.

"What exactly are you looking for by reading the newspapers?"

"I just... wanted to fill my memories, maybe i can remember who i was before came to this place?" he said while looking at the Nieverdell’ new king face longingly.

Peach shifted to sit next to the man she deemed to be Simon. "If you can remember again ... and find your family, will you leave us?"

Simon shook his head. "Perhaps, yes. I have been treated like a slave here. Back in my family, I was treated well... like a crown prince." he blurted out. Luckily Peach was not listening carefully.

Peach’s face instantly turned sour. "I didn’t treat you like a slave! I just want you to repay my grandmother’s kindness for taking care of you these days!"

Simon let go of his newspaper to ruffle Peach’s hair, making the girl protest because her hair got caught in the wooden crown the man had made yesterday.

"You like my crown that much, Huh?"

"I just want to appreciate your hard work," replied Peach perfunctory.

"Okay... okay... I got it."

Simon went back to reading the paper and ignored Peach who was babbling nonstop. The man touched one of his arms that was severed, then shook his head slowly. He folded the newspaper and put it back in the basket.

"Hey, Peach. I think it’s time for us to go home. I have promised to Sir Rodger to tend his cows this afternoon."

"You! Make promises at your own will! If you are too kind then you will only be taken advantage of by people, you know!"

"Well, I’m fine with that."

Simon got up and put his straw hat back on and sat crouched with his back to the big basket filled with strawberries.

"Hey, Peach! I need your help here!"

Peach cursed, making Simon laugh. Even so, she still came closer and put the straps of the strawberry basket on Simon’s shoulders.

"Simon," Peach called from the side.

"Yes?"

"Regarding your words earlier. Are you really going to leave us when you find your family again?"

Simon lowered his hat preventing Peach from seeing his face. "Honestly... i won’t."

"Eh, Why!?"

"Just because," he answered lazily.

"Won’t you miss them?"

(Maybe, but I don’t want those two to be burdened by my presence anymore. After being almost dead, I just realized my mistake, and I... want to support those two from a distance.)

There was a short moment for him to feel sad. "Maybe i won’t." he answered with a shaky voice.

"Are you crying?" Peach asked, peeking out from under the straw hat.

Simon jolted and touched his face quickly. There were no tears there, then he glared at Peach who was smiling mischievously.

"How dare you!?"

"Oh, boy! You were deceived!" Peach’s sneer made Simon’s face turn red in embarrassment.

He quickened his pace leaving the giggling Peach behind. "Hey, Mr. Persimmon! Wait for me!"

"Simon! My name is Simon! Not a Persimmon!"

"Nope, I gave you the name, so I have the right to call you whatever I want!"

"Tsk, you brat."

The two of them walked the path down the hill. Simon tried not to hear Peach’s taunts. As they passed the farmer earlier, Simon reported that Peach had eaten his lunch. The man just laughed and pretended to scold Peach.

The two of them arrived at the village. Simon stopped walking and looked around him once more. It was his new family. They had found him almost dead by the river in their village. A grandmother and her granddaughter named Peach were the first to find him and took care of him for the past few days.

When they asked who he was, he was silent. He said he didn’t remember anything except he was just an ordinary soldier who lost a battle on the outskirts of the city. That was it. One of his hands was gone and now he was learning to work with one hand to help the grandmother’s family who had helped him.

Alexis... He had lost that name ever since Archie threw him into the river.

When his body hit the surface of the water at that moment he realized that what he was doing was undoubtedly sinful and wrong. This was his way of living a new life. The story under the name Alexis was over and at this moment was the new beginning of his story with the name Simon.

"Hey, Mr. persimmon! Don’t slack off!"

...or perhaps he would be known as Mr. Persimmon.

And yups, That’s Alexis.

I just feel he need another chance. He was a jerk but at least he is the only person who knew Arielle’s mother personally and the only sibling who didn’t bully her. He just lost his way because of his greediness.

But his strory already done. By this, Alexis choose his new life as Simon. Before Archie threw him, He already regret his wrongdoing by remembering Mirabelle for the last time (Arielle’s mother). And by living in an outskirt village, he learn how to serve people.

Maybe we can meet Miss Peach and Mr. Persimmon in another chance as a cameo ^^
