Chapter 258: King Hugo’s Suspicion

Mr. Heath understood what his friend meant and excused himself to resign. He looked back once again to see Arielle, who was fast asleep.

His eyes crinkled at the glass the waiter brought. How could that maid appear by chance with a glass of water? Queen Rosalie continued to look at the two knights in front of her until they were completely out.

The connecting door to the hall opened again. Andrea appeared while glancing at Arielle, who was already unconscious.

"Is your father still outside the hall?"

"Hmm. Everything is safe."

A guard appeared and carried Arielle. Queen Rosalie walked behind the guard with a sad face in front of the higher-ups and palace advisors.

"Princess Arielle is not feeling well. Let me take care of her."

Queen Rosalie bowed respectfully towards everyone there. Andrea just smiled and followed her mother. Some of the other siblings started whispering, as did the concubines who glanced at each other. They signaled to each other the question, what happened?

Ronan sat on the window sill. His eyes stared intently at Nieverdell palace, which looked small from his inn room. From the second floor, he could almost see the entire view of the palace. He could feel the restlessness in the forest surrounding the palace. Second by second, they passed with tension.

Johan, the innkeeper, knocked on his bedroom door and then conveyed a message that Kael and Lazarus’ group had met. They would arrive at the estimated time.

"Tonight," he muttered.

He looked at all the people gathered in the capital. They were enlivening the streets and squares just for a festival. Some of the children started setting off fireworks. Some were also playing with small firecrackers on the side of the road. All shops were full of customers, and inns and bars were always full.

Ronan would take advantage of the crowds of the capital city of Nieverdell to distract the population from the chaos that was about to be wrought at Nieverdell’s palace.

Seconds passed, and one by one information was obtained, but the information from inside the palace had been cut off during the day. Johan said the palace gates were officially closed and would only be opened for the North’s entourage to arrive.

Ronan cursed. That meant he could no longer know Arielle’s condition there. William offered him a glass of whiskey to calm the man down. They couldn’t risk attacking Nieverdell palace any faster just to barge in.

A few days ago, Archie had confirmed Nieverdell had a greater ratio of the number of soldiers. If they advanced without help, Kael and Lazarus would be a bit overwhelmed, considering they had a wall that had various artillery installed. They benefitted from the high ground too.

"Mr. Heath is with Arielle. And we’ve sent ten new people there," said William.

Ronan did not reply to William’s comments. His eyes were now glued to the pages of the Nieverdell map that lay on the table. He tried to find new loopholes to increase their chances of a more effective victory.

Lazarus had neutralized the harbor area, and Kael had also managed to keep the group from being attacked in the neutral area. His forefinger circled the forest plan.

"We have not found the position of the crown prince?" asked Ronan.

"Not yet, we’re still tracking him," William replied.

Ronan just nodded in understanding. The man sat back down on the window frame and once again looked at the people below him. His hand gripped tightly on the sword hilt to get ready.

(Not yet... hold on... hold on....)

William glanced at Ronan who looked relaxed. He just smiled, knowing that even though Ronan looked unaffected by the current state of affairs, his soul was in turmoil. He really wanted to swing his sword again.

Sasha saw the clear expanse of the sky in front of him. Now he knew why the princess never wanted to go back to the South again. Being placed in the tower was reminding Sasha of how the orphanage caretaker treated him.

Now Sasha knew why at that time, Princess Arielle wanted to help him. They had almost the same fate. Even though the sky was shining very brightly with warm sunlight, their treatment was very cold.

Sasha saw his hands and feet were sore. He wanted to meet Arielle and apologizes for troubling her. Tears fell down his cheeks. The child began to sob.

No matter how strong Sasha was, he was still a child who couldn’t stand the pain he was receiving. He still needed a place to hide. Whenever a guard came to give him medicine or food, Sasha was always on guard, afraid that someone else he didn’t want would come.

He wanted to end this misery immediately. He wanted to return to the North as soon as possible. Sasha didn’t mind if the North had no sunshine. Now he also didn’t care if he had to sleep in the cold at night. He didn’t mind if he could only eat Frostberry until he was old.

Sasha shook his head quickly. He had to endure. The guard said earlier that Lazarus’ group had managed to meet up with Kael’s Group, which meant they would arrive tonight to pick them all up.

Sasha regained his composure. He just had to wait until tonight.

The boy backed away until his back hit the wall, he tried to count from one to infinity until the sky started to turn orange, meaning the night would soon come.

The sun had set. King Hugo could see a row of fireworks from a distance. The people were having a party, and soon they would be doing the same.

This morning for some reason, suddenly the informants had stopped coming to give news. This had made King Hugo worried, so he decided to close access in and out of the palace.

But someone said that Archie’s group had been seen entering the capital. It made him relieved.

He was standing on the balcony looking directly at the expanse of forest in front of him. A guard approached to give him the binoculars to see Archie’s arrival.

After the guards confirmed that it was Archie standing in front of the main gate, King Hugo ordered to open the gate immediately. Lady Maia was moved to tears when she saw her son enter, leading the soldiers who came home with many chests filled with treasures.

King Hugo smiled proudly. He saw some of his soldiers, with wounded bodies and torn clothes.

(Wait....)

The man squinted his eyes at the soldiers who were still wearing their hoodies. They looked too healthy for the bloodstained clothes. Even wide rips on some of the backs of the coat looked unusual.

If it was true that they fought so hard, why... there were no injuries?

King Hugo looked at Archie and his hundreds of soldiers once more. His second son looked up and smiled broadly. That smile made King Hugo uncomfortable.

He called his guard.

"The Northern group managed to fight the bandits, right? They haven’t arrived yet?"

"Not yet seen, Your Majesty."

"Turn over all the artillery on the palace walls and aim for the palace grounds," King Hugo ordered without taking his eyes off Archie.
