Chapter 229: Morning In The Village

Arielle then turned away from the wolf, who was still standing in place, looking at Arielle’s back which was walking away. The warmth that had surrounded him all this time slowly drifted away.

(Arielle, I love you)

Arielle, who was walking away, suddenly froze in her place. Ronan’s voice ringing in her head made the girl’s heartbeat quicken. She turned and saw Ronan no longer there.

The girl smiled gently, she tossed her hair as the night wind blew again. "I love you too, Ronan," she answered slowly.

Arielle returned to the inn where they rested for the night. In her room, Tania still hadn’t slept, waiting for the princess’s return. She didn’t have to worry too much if Arielle was with Ronan. The woman was quite surprised to see Arielle’s return sooner than expected.

"You’re back?"

Arielle just nodded and grabbed the bag they were carrying, which contained a change of clothes. Arielle looked at Sasha, who was fast asleep on the bed.

Tania stood up to help the princess change clothes. The woman did not ask much about the red marks that adorned Arielle’s body. She quite knew who did it.

Tania could only purse her lips to hold back a smile. Even though Arielle had entered adulthood, the girl was still too innocent to let others see the marks.

"Princess, what is this wound?" asked Tania worriedly, seeing the scratches on Arielle’s upper arm.

"Ah, this... I fell in the woods earlier and injured myself." Arielle lifted her skirt to reveal another wound on her knee as well as her palm.

"How did you fall?"

Arielle wanted to answer, but she couldn’t. She thought Tania still didn’t know about Ronan’s visit earlier. The girl turned her blushing face away.

"I-I... just chased the fireflies and fell over," she lied.

Tania had known Arielle since she was a baby. So she could clearly tell when Arielle was lying or not. But seeing Arielle shyly replying, Tania thought it must be because she met with the king.

Tania could only shake her head in resignation. Youngsters and their hormones. Tania knew that the two of them were in love, but they should do something about the location before acting.

"Princess, sometimes we have to be wiser to choose where to do things so as not to get hurt like this."

Arielle furrowed her brows in confusion.

"Do things? But these injuries were caused by my own carelessness from falling."

Tania just smiled. She didn’t want to make Arielle uncomfortable by forcing the girl to tell the truth. She might be able to understand it this time because Arielle and King Ronan just met again after a few days apart. The two of them must have done it in such a hurry that they didn’t realize it hurt the girl’s body.

"Yes... yes... I totally understand. Now rest. You must be so tired from running that you fell in the forest."

Arielle didn’t answer Tania’s words because she didn’t understand. The girl opened the blanket that Sasha was wearing and joined to sleep beside the boy. Tania chose a rocking chair made of rattan as a place to rest.

For the first time, Arielle was able to fall into a deep sleep since returning to the South.

Arielle’s body was shaken awake. The sun had risen, and it was time for them to return to the Capital. The girl yawned softly. Sasha watched the princess closely.

Tania said not to say anything about the king’s arrival last night to Arielle so that the girl wouldn’t feel awkward. But Sasha’s curiosity was very high.

"What is it, Sasha?" asked Arielle, who was still sleepy and starting to feel strange with the child’s sharp gaze.

Sasha immediately shook his head and grabbed Tania’s bag to carry. "It’s nothing, Princess. Breakfast is ready, and Tania told me to wake you up because we are going back to the Capital City."

Arielle stretched her body muscles and got up following Sasha. They came downstairs and found Tania at a table full of food, and she saw a man sitting with Tania and other women. When Arielle arrived, the man left the house to go to work.

"Please enjoy the meal. Don’t be ashamed to finish all the food," said the owner of the house.

Sasha grabbed a wooden chair and sat near Tania. He asked the lady, "Aren’t you saving for dinner for your husband later?".

"Oh, you don’t have to worry. My husband won’t be home until midnight. And for dinner, we will eat together with the other village women in the field like last night."

"Ooh... do the women in this village always have dinner together?" asked Sasha, who received a plate of boiled potatoes and carrots with chicken. "Thank you," he said to the woman who owned the house.

"Certainly! Because the boys and men in this village rarely come home. We, women, work hand in hand to bring the relationship between women closer."

This is such a unique village, thought Sasha.

Arielle also thanked her when she was given a plate of breakfast. They were grateful to meet Tania’s old friend when they came home from the lake yesterday and then offered to spend the night at her house.

But Arielle was really grateful, that way, she could meet Ronan there. If she had returned to the palace sooner, Arielle had no idea where a suitable place would be for their meeting.

There was no way Ronan would approach the palace in his wolf form. Ronan’s wolf form was enormous. And for a bright place like Nieverdell’s palace, the man’s jet-black fur color would be very striking.

Ah! Arielle remembered something!

"Hah... I forgot to ask," the girl muttered quietly.

"Asking what?" asked Tania, who accidentally heard Arielle’s voice

"It is nothing! I was just thinking about something else earlier," Arielle replied nervously. The girl immediately lowered her head and ate breakfast so she could avoid Tania’s questions.

There was one thing that just crossed Arielle’s mind. She had forgotten to ask Ronan about her brother Archie. She didn’t know if she should trust the man or not. Archie’s kindness was too sudden and she thought it was too good to be true. Archie’s random attitude made Arielle even more nervous.

She had gotten so carried away last night that she had forgotten about it. She had inquired about Duke Pellington, and it turned out that Ronan had found out about her family’s plans. The man said that Arielle didn’t have to worry, so she could breathe a sigh of relief for that. However, Archie was still a problem.

After finishing breakfast, the three of them were allowed to leave the village. A palace guard and a coachman who accompanied the three had also been prepared beside Archie’s horse carriage.

"Thank you very much for the dinner," said Tania, while hugging her old friend.

The woman returned Tania’s hug and nodded. "With pleasure. Come again next year. I will prepare more delicious food. Your presence was so sudden yesterday that I couldn’t prepare anything."

Tania just laughed and turned to invite Arielle and Sasha. Arielle and Sasha also bowed to the woman who had kindly offered them lodging. The woman’s eyes lit up when she saw Arielle. When the girl turned around, the woman covered her mouth in a gasp.

"She looks a lot like her mother," she muttered under her breath.
