Chapter 207: Rejection

The three of them walked toward the west wing, where the maids’ quarter was located. Arielle walked quickly to her room which she had left for a long time. The girl opened the wooden door and invited Sasha and Tania to enter. Sasha cocked his head.

"Is this your room, Princess?" asked Sasha, who couldn’t believe that the tiny room was Arielle’s room. Even his room at the orphanage was better than this room.

The bedroom was only filled with one small bed with a shabby wooden table. Sasha looked at the balcony which no longer had the wooden railings. It would be very dangerous to play there.

In addition, Arielle’s small room was mostly filled with her painting equipment. Sasha could see a row of the princess’s handiwork hung on one of the walls of her room.

"Are you going to sleep here?" asked Sasha once more.

Tania chuckled and then took Arielle’s bedsheet, which was starting to get dusty, to clean. Sasha watched Tania coming out to the balcony. He was worried that the old woman would slip and fall because the balcony had no railings.

"Princess, I may be young and slow to understand the meaning of all this. Were you treated unfairly by your own family?" asked Sasha sadly. The child approached Arielle, who was sitting quietly on her bed. Sasha grabbed Arielle’s hand and held it tightly.

"Sasha, I am only a child born to the king from an unknown woman. I was born out of wedlock. I never know who my mother was. So to some, I’m just the bastard child of a king who doesn’t deserve attention. And to be honest, I never thought bad about it myself. I have many friends here. I don’t care about royalty. So, I hope you’re not disappointed with me because I’m just a princess with nothing on my name."

Sasha understood now. Under the snowfall, where Princess Arielle reached out to offer a helping hand... it must be because Princess Arielle felt the same pain that Sasha felt.

He didn’t know who his real parents were. Likewise, Princess Arielle did not know who her mother was either. Sasha also received unfair treatment from the caretakers of the orphanage, as well as Princess Arielle, who was discriminated against by her siblings.

Sasha had a bad feeling when he entered the hall earlier. They gathered only to intimidate Arielle with their presence. The more they gathered, the more Arielle became submissive.

Now Sasha understood what people said about animals with beautiful colors. Because now, Sasha had seen it for himself. Nieverdell royal palace was a very beautiful palace but contained many poisonous animals in it.

He would keep his promise to King Ronan to fulfill his first royal duty, which was to protect Princess Arielle from these poisonous people.

Sasha sighed in exasperation. How dare they huddle together just to intimidate one person? Later, when Sasha had become a true knight, he would avenge Princess Arielle before leveling up and defeating that damn Lazarus.

"Because you came so suddenly, tonight you should sleep here with me, okay? Let Tania prepare a better room for you tomorrow."

Sasha’s face blushed when he heard Princess Arielle ask him to sleep with her.

"-I-I could sleep with the guards," he muttered.

Arielle smiled and pinched Sasha’s adorable cheeks.

"Girls are not allowed to sleep with a group of guards," she said, inviting Tania’s laughter. Sasha was so nervous that he forgot that he was using a fake identity.

"I-if you don’t mind," he replied, his face as red as a tomato.

"I don’t mind at all."

Sasha’s heart was beating very fast because he was going to sleep with a princess tonight.

Arielle took out two glass jars of Frostberry jam and then put the other three in the cupboard. She wanted to give the two jars to the servants as souvenirs. She would keep the rest to share with Sasha and Tania.

In the South, Frostberry jam had became an expensive item, and it could only be consumed by the royal family. Therefore, Arielle wanted to share it with her friends.

After putting all her clothes in the closet, Arielle wanted to take Sasha around the palace. There was a very beautiful flower garden. Surely Sasha would love it. Because the sun was very hot during the day, Arielle didn’t have to worry about meeting her siblings. They would all find comfort inside the palace and didn’t go out to bother her.

Sasha helped Arielle by bringing a glass jar. Tania also came because she wanted to greet the other servants. In the kitchen, Arielle greeted them all.

"Good afternoon all! How are you guys?" greeted Arielle in a friendly manner.

The maids suddenly stiffened and did not return Arielle’s greeting. They stood awkwardly and glanced at each other. One of the maids bowed respectfully, making Arielle knit her brows in confusion.

She found it strange because this was the first time Nieverdell’s servants had been so formal in front of her. It felt so awkward there.

"Hey, what’s wrong with you guys?" the girl asked.

Tania, who felt the strangeness, grabbed one of her closest maid friends and asked why they ignored Arielle, who had just arrived from the North.

"I-I brought gifts for you. Look! Frostberry jam!" Arelle said, still trying to get people’s attention there.

Arielle, who couldn’t stand their silence, put the glass jar on a nearby table and then approached one of the maids, who often became her playmates.

"Olin, you don’t want to say hi to me? I am home!"

Olin, a woman who was a few years older than Arielle, just smiled and then unhooked Arielle’s hand from her arm. Arielle was hurt to receive a rejection from her close friend.

Olin was a servant who had always looked after her since she was little. She met Olin at the market and they became playmates. Arielle already considered Olin like her sister.

Then, a few years ago, Olin got a job as a palace maid. Arielle was very happy, and since then, Arielle had often helped Olin. Likewise with Olin. She often invited Arielle to play together.

The princess was very confused by Olin’d blatant rejection. She had only been to the North a few weeks, but why had Olin turned so cold towards her? She watched all the maids there who avoided her gaze. She didn’t know what had happened.

As much as possible, Arielle bit her lip to hold back tears. Tania, who could not stand the other maid’s disrespectful attitude, reprimanded them one by one. But Arielle was too sad to be there. The girl left the kitchen. Sasha, who had been with her all this time, ran after Arielle, who looked sad.

"What’s the matter with you all? Princess Arielle has brought you a very valuable gift, but you didn’t even open your mouth to greet her! Are you guys crazy? Are you aware that you have hurt Princess Arielle’s feelings? While in the North, she always said she missed you, and this is how you repay her kindness? Giving her a cold attitude? Did you know that Princess Arielle had—"

"What, Tania?" asked someone behind the kitchen door.

Andrea was standing leaning against the kitchen door with a sly smile. She looked at Tania from top to bottom. Seeing the presence of the princess, the other servants, including Tania, bowed their heads to show their respects.
