Chapter 192: Ronan Is Looking For Arielle

"Why should it be the Cathedral?" William asked Lazarus. "Why not just say that Princess Arielle has gone outside the palace?"

Lazarus shook his head solemnly and wagged his index finger in William’s face. "No, my friend. We have to do this as convincingly as possible. Priest Elis could lie and the man’s holy image will further strengthen our alibi. If Priest Elis said he saw Princess Arielle go out of the palace, then it’s very likely that Ronan would believe it."

William nodded in understanding. So did Arielle. Now it was Lucas who raised his hand to interrupt their conversation.

"But I dare not take Princess Arielle out of the palace without the permission of His Majesty the King. I’m afraid His Majesty would be angry with me."

Lazarus turned to Lucas, and then touched the man’s shoulder to calm Lucas.

"Relax, you’re not really out of the palace. I will protect you," said Lazarus confidently.

Lucas couldn’t fully trust the man, because just yesterday afternoon Ronan had traumatized the man and now Lazarus confidently said he would distract the king and calm Ronan down.

Lucas shivered in horror at the thought of the king’s anger when he found out he had taken Princess Arielle out of the palace... even if only in a narrative of lies.

"But ..."

Arielle touched Lucas’ hand to soothe him. The girl smiled gently. "It’s okay, Lucas. We’re just borrowing your name. I will explain to His Majesty the king. After this surprise party is done, of course."

Lucas nodded resignedly. Maybe Lazarus wasn’t very convincing, but he would always believe that Princess Arielle would protect him.

William understood his task now. Likewise, Lazarus rushed to the Cathedral to find Priest Elis to work with the lie.

"Ah, I almost forgot!" cried William as soon as he came back into the kitchen.

"His Majesty asked Lucas to deliver his breakfast. Can someone provide breakfast?"

William stood at the door of the king’s study with mixed feelings. He pinched his cheeks to make himself look more relaxed and less tense. He didn’t want Arielle’s plan to fail because he wasn’t good at acting. He knocked on the door of the room and then opened it before getting permission from the owner.

Ronan, who was reading his book, looked behind William’s body and did not find Arielle there. His brows furrowed in disapproval. There was also no Lucas, whom he asked to bring his breakfast.

Only William stood, whom he had ordered to bring Arielle and Lucas. The man stood casually pushing the food trolley that was supposed to be done by someone else.

"Where’s Arielle?" asked Ronan matter-of-factly.

"I met Tania earlier. She said Princess Arielle was in the Cathedral, praying. Not wanting to bother her, I looked for Lucas to bring you breakfast, but the guy wasn’t there either. The maid said to me that after delivering breakfast for Princess Arielle, Lucas was invited by her to pray together."

William lied so smoothly. Although on the outside, he looked relaxed, his heart was beating very fast. He was indeed used to role-playing to negotiate with people, but he could never successfully fool Ronan.

Hence now, he spoke without looking at the man. William preferred to talk while preparing the food he brought to Ronan’s empty desk.

Ronan stood up to William’s surprise.

"Where do you want to go?" asked William, following the king, who left his study quickly.

"To the Cathedral. I will meet Arielle there," Ronan said curtly,

"At least have breakfast first," said William, pointing at his still warm food.

Ronan didn’t answer. The man continued to stride wide, leaving the Blackthorn Palace and then across the garden to the Cathedral. He didn’t care that the group of knights led by Kael had arrived at the palace in a neat lineup to greet the king. William waved his hand to shoo Kael to return to the Colosseum immediately...

The horde of knights looked shabby. Camping in the cold was no easy feat. They wore the thickest clothes that were purposely made specifically to survive in the cold.

Sasha gave a thumbs-up greeting to William with a thick oversized jacket and a pot over his head. He also carried many bags which were much bigger than his body. Judging from Kael, who didn’t bring anything, it seemed like all of his things were brought by Sasha.

Some of the knights also carried a lot of hunted animals, ranging from rabbits to smaller games. William decided to tell them to get rid of them because he didn’t want the animals to be seen by Arielle. The girl would cry if she saw the many animals they brought home.

After expelling the crowd, William ran after Ronan, who had left him far away. The man just walked away and didn’t return the greeting from another priest who stopped to greet him. When they arrived at the blessing hall. Ronan immediately looked for Arielle and turned to William with sharp eyes.

"You said Arielle was here, right?" asked Ronan grumpily as he pulled William’s collar, ready to smack the man.

Fortunately, Priest Elis came just in time with Lazarus. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

"Your Majesty, is there anything I can help you with?" asked Priest Elis kindly.

William was grateful for the man’s presence. If Priest Elis was just a second late, he would be lying on the hall floor.

Ronan got rid of Willaim and then turned to Priest Elis.

"Priest Elis. I heard Arielle was here. I just wanted to pick her up."

Priest Elis was still smiling. Lazarus and William looked at each other, waiting for an answer from the man, but Priest Elis didn’t answer.

"Princess Arielle? If I’m not mistaken, Princess Arielle visited here with Lucas," said Lazarus, who panicked because Priest Elis said nothing but smiled.

Ronan glanced briefly at Lazarus. "What’s your business here?" Ronan asked sharply, making Lazarus open his mouth in surprise as if he couldn’t believe what he was hearing.

"Ronan... I know you hate me. Even though I’m very annoying to you, I’m still a devout person. I came here to pray and accidentally met Princess Arielle, who was praying," the man exclaimed.

Roann didn’t seem interested in Lazarus’s answer, so he now turned his head back to Priest Elis. "Is that true?" Ronan asked Priest Elis.

The man nodded, confirming with, "That’s right, Your Majesty."
