Chapter 181: Lazarus’s Help

"So why did you reject these ideas?" asked Lazarus, who was also getting confused and running out of ideas. Almost everything he suggested was rejected by Arielle. Either the reason was too excessive, too simple, she doesn’t like it, until it was too expensive, Arielle threw it.

"Actually, how much money do you have? Why not buy a handkerchief embroidered with gold thread? I think it is a simple but meaningful gift for a king."

Arielle glanced at Lucas and then reached into her pocket. She took out a small bag that she had been squeezing.

"That’s all," said the girl.

Lazarus frowned, then opened the pouch. He was so surprised to find how little money contained inside the pouch.

"Huh? Just this? Aren’t you a royal princess? Why are you so poor?" asked Lazarus without filtering his words making Arielle bite her lip.

The man just realized that he was talking to Arielle, who was a very delicate woman. Lazarus immediately cursed himself.

"Princess Arielle has some conditions that make her like this. Let’s stop talking about it," Lucas said, taking the pouch back and giving it to Arielle.

Lazarus felt guilty for making Arielle look down in embarrassment. The man got down and crouched down with one knee touching the ground. "Sorry for what I just said, Your Highness. Sorry for my insolence just now." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Arielle just nodded, and it was not able to erase the guilt that enveloped Lazarus’ heart.

"Well, may I borrow the bag for a moment?" Lazarus asked Arielle.

Arielle lifted her head and then looked at her pocket doubtfully.

"Just trust me this time. I can give you a very extraordinary gift. I believe this gift will make the world a better place. If you give this to the king, then in this world there will be no war, poverty, abandoned children, and everyone will live in peace," said Lazarus at length.

"Huh? What gifts will you buy?" asked Arielle curiously.

She didn’t know something like that would exist. She turned to Lucas, who was also looking confused.

"Does that thing exist?" Lucas asked, who also asked the same thing as Arielle was thinking.

"Of course, there is, Lucas. This object is in the form of a book. And you know, books are windows to get knowledge from all over the world."

"Then why didn’t His Majesty the King have it before?"

"This book is too magical to spread widely. Only street people and some criminals know. And I can get it in the shortest time and the cheapest price," he answered.

Now Lazarus turned back to Arielle. "What do you think? Do you agree?"

Arielle thought for a moment. If he gave such a great book, Ronan would surely appreciate it, right? And as someone who had experienced some misery at a young age, Arielle wanted the things that Lazarus had said earlier. She wanted a world that was peaceful and serene.

Arielle no longer thought long. She then gave him her money bag and entrusted it to Lazarus. The man smiled gently because the princess was cheerful again.

"Entrust everything to me, Princess. I hope with this, you can trust me completely and sincerely."

Arielle nodded.

"Then you can rest in the square for a while with Lucas. I’ll be right back,"

Again Arielle nodded in approval. Lazarus left them both.

"We can entrust it to him, right, Lucas?" Arielle asked Lucas, who had been listening to them all this time.

"I think Sir Lazarus is really serious this time, Princess. And this is very rare. I think we can really trust him this time."

"Then we should just wait in the square," said Arielle.

"Okay."

Arielle and Lucas sat on a bench in the square. Even though it was still daytime, sitting out in the open like this wouldn’t burn their skin at all, since there was no scorching sun. Although the sky looked clear with no clouds, there was a layer of grey that kept the air cool, so even the square would still be busy during the day.

Lucas returned with a warm bun with a layer of Frostberry jam. Arielle thanked him and then accepted it happily. Her heartache from Lazarus’ taunt earlier was instantly healed as the Frostberry jam melted in her mouth.

Arielle finished her bread slowly. She saw a child holding his mother’s hand. Arielle just smiled at how excited the little boy was. Elsewhere a couple was sitting back on a bench in another square.

There was also a man whose back was bent over. He was standing in prayer with his hands clasped, in front of a wolf-shaped fountain.

Arielle smiled a little when she saw several little girls who came near the fountain. One of the children climbed on the edge of the pool and then put a crown made of twigs on the head of one of the wolves surrounding the fountain.

Her eyes were fixed on a woman who was in a group of people having a picnic. From a distance, it looked like it was a small family. The mother took out a simple white cake with five red candles.

Oh right, Arielle just remembered. The day of departure had been fixed. She would return to the South the day before Ronan’s birthday. That meant she won’t be with him. Seeing a girl blowing out her candles happily made Arielle want to do something.

When Arielle was busy daydreaming, suddenly Lazarus came back with a pant.

"I’ve got it."

"Are you all right, Lazarus?"

"I’m fine. I was just being chased by a few people from my past. But now everything is fine."

Arielle then received a package that was tightly bound and neatly wrapped.

"Can I open it?" At least Arielle just wanted to see.

"I suggest that Ronan take a look first. It’s nothing. It’s just that I’ve ordered it to be wrapped very neatly as a birthday present. It would be a shame if it had to be opened again now."

"Oh, I understand. Thank you so much, Lazarus. Then, is there anything you want to do?" Arielle asked Lazarus.

The man shook his head weakly. "I guess I’m done."

"Then we can return to the palace. It’s getting late," Lucas said.

Arielle nodded. Lazarus and Lucas walked behind, protecting the princess while she returned to her carriage.
