Loving The Cursed Werewolf King-Chapter 159: Ronan Meets His Spies
In the bustling market of the capital city of Nieverdell, Ronan merged with the crowd of people passing by. In a suburban area, there was a small house. In front of it was a booth filled with fruit for sale.
Ronan grabbed three red apples and gave them to the seller. He lifted his hood briefly for the seller to see. The seller immediately noticed him after seeing the scar on the left side of Ronan’s face and his red irises. He took a clean paper to wrap the three apples.
"Do you want full change?" asked the salesman as several women passed behind Ronan’s back.
"Yes, bring me everything," the man replied curtly.
After paying, Ronan left the fruit shop and wandered off to another place. An empty cathedral which buildings had collapsed became his resting place.
He took his first bite of the apple as his eyes scanned the entire scene in front of him. A fast-flowing river was located directly behind the Cathedral. Ronan thought that there would be a lot of green grass there.
In addition, there were rows of green hills that were so beautiful as far as his eyes could see. A sight he would never find in the North.
"Would Arielle want to have a wedding with a view like this?" muttered the man.
Ronan couldn’t take the mountains to the North. Even if he brought back the flowers that surrounded him now, they would only wither in the North later.
Ronan threw away the apple stalk he had eaten away. His ears sharpened when he heard the voices of several men approaching.
His gaze met with the man selling the fruit, who had now changed to carrying fishing rods. So did several other men who followed him. Ronan was still resting under the tree, waiting for them to prepare their respective fishing gears.
A total of seven people came. Of the seven, some opened the chairs, attached fishing lines with bait, and some went into the river to set traps.
The last person set up a smaller snare that already contained some of the live fish. They just bought the fish from the market. The fish would be used as proof that they were really fishing if someone asked about their fishing activity.
The men were all Northerners who had been trained to serve as spies in the South. Their only goal was to make sure the South didn’t do anything weird.
Everyone sat in their respective positions very naturally. Even when a resident passed them, they would greet the resident until they walked away.
When Ronan was sure that no one was there, he came to approach them. He chose a bench behind an empty fishing line.
"No word about Duke Pellington?" asked Ronan matter-of-factly.
The man who was fishing reached into the hat he was wearing and gave it to Ronan.
"That’s all the team could find."
The paper had three red dots containing the message that the two wolves were gifted by Duke Pellington. Ronan tore the paper into the smallest pieces and then threw it into the river.
"What’s the problem?"
"Duke Pellington’s security is very tight. Even his two wives don’t talk much. The servants and bodyguards there are very careful about their way of speaking. So we can’t dig deep for information and confirm our suspicions," said one of the men.
He added, "But there are rumors that Duke Pellington is going to add one more wife... and his third wife will be the daughter of King Hugo."
He paid no heed to the tip of his hook moving as a result of a fish eating his bait. They were all focused on listening to the king’s conversation. Even if a fish the size of a shark grabbed their fishing line, they wouldn’t care.
"Have you confirmed the rumors?"
"Not yet, Your Majesty. I only heard that from an outsider who said he overheard a servant saying a few months later there would be a royal wedding."
Ronan couldn’t confirm whether the rumors were true or not, but according to previous information, which was the fact that Duke Pellington gifted the two wolves he killed to King Hugo, then there was something the man wanted from the royal family. And of course, it was definitely not cheap....
Marriage to a royal princess? If true, then who would he choose to be a wife?
Actually, Ronan didn’t really care about the household affairs of a nobleman from another kingdom. However, Duke Pellington had dared to interfere in his dealings with the southern royal family by providing a pair of wolves to pay for Prince Alexis’ wrong.
Wait a minute. If the South didn’t care about Arielle, then they shouldn’t care how long Arielle stayed in the North either, right? Then why did they suddenly want Arielle to come back to the South?
A hypothesis made Ronan clench his fists in emotion.
It couldn’t be...
The South sacrificed Arielle again to that man named Pellington... Ah! And Tania also once said that the South was preparing something for Arielle, right?
And regarding Duke Pellington, based on previous reports, it was said that Duke Pellington was a nobleman who owned a diamond mine in the neutral area, a border area that intersected with three royal borders. Kingdom of Northendell, Thebis, and Nieverdell.
Ronan had received an offer from a nobleman who wanted to sell his gold mines to the North, but at that time, Ronan refused because it was a neutral area that should not be under the control of the three kingdoms.
Ronan had a hunch that Duke Pellington was trying to sell his mines to the South in exchange for a royal princess as his bride. Not only he would get the royal princess, but he could also secure his position if Thebis and the North protested.
The duke would hide behind the back of the royal family of Nieverdell.
Ronan smiled slyly. If that was what Duke Pellington intended, then he needn’t worry, Ronan had prepared something. Hopefully, William could use their trump card properly...
