Chapter 158: The Argument In The Throne Room

"Your Majesty King Hugo, don’t misunderstand beforehand. King Ronan’s own intention is that the North would do whatever it took to gain the blessing of marrying Princess Arielle."

"NO!"

Alexis and King Hugo looked to the side where Andrea was standing with both hands akimbo. She looked furious.

"Arielle must not marry King Ronan!" said the girl making William roll his eyes. The man did not have much time to listen to the whimper of a princess. He turned back to the still silent King Hugo.

"I don’t approve of this marriage, father," Alexis whispered to his father. He added, "Remember, we already have an agreement with Duke Pellington. If we betray that agreement, then Duke Pellington may leave us and instead go to the East. That man will be our source of funds with his diamond mine. Arielle will still marry Duke Pellington."

King Hugo raised his hand, asking Alexis to stop talking. King Hugo admitted that he did not like the ruler of the North. There were often tensions in the northern border areas caused by some northerners being barbaric.

His forefinger tapped on the armrest on his throne. Alexis was standing there holding back his anxiety. His father was a typical person who was very easily influenced by wealth. His golden eyes would always sparkle if he saw a more profitable golden opportunity.

"Father... yesterday I showed you the bruises on my neck caused by King Ronan," whispered Alexis.

Andrea stepped closer to her father.

"Father. We can’t just betray Duke Pellington. If King Ronan wanted a princess from the South, then you can appoint one of us. I’m willing to replace Arielle," Andrea said, making William batted his eyes in surprise.

What did the woman say? Has she gone mad? William thought.

The two questions were also exactly what Alexis had in mind. He looked at his sister in horror.

"Andrea, leave! We’ll talk about this later!" scolded Alexis, but Andrea didn’t listen to him.

William did not try to stop the argument between the two siblings. King Hugo himself was deafening himself and pretending not to hear what his children were doing.

He deliberately invited Alexis so that the crown prince could learn how to negotiate between fellow kingdoms as a provision for him if he rose to become a king. He shouldn’t have interfered with what the king was doing.

And Andrea... King Hugo would punish the guards who had let Andrea in. He clearly gave orders to forbid anyone from entering the throne room. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"Sir William, I think we’ll talk more comfortably in my room," King Hugo turned to William and spoke to him directly, not caring about his children’s argument.

"With pleasure, Your Majesty."

King Hugo rose from his throne and then left the room. Both Alexis and Andrea fell silent. William followed the king from behind to his discussion room so they could talk more calmly.

Alexis grabbed Andrea’s arm harder, making her wince in pain.

"You’ve messed everything up." Alexis hissed, showing his displeasure at Andrea, who was starting to become even more of a mess.

"What have I done? I was only giving advice as you did!" Andrea shouted back.

"You have no right to give advice, Andrea! Try again when you are born a Crown Prince!" Alexis snapped at his sister. His patience had truly run out.

Andrea looked at Alexis with a surprised look. She was never been yelled at like this by Alexis.

"What are you saying? Hey, we’re on the same side here. We want Arielle to marry Duke Pellington!"

"I know, Andrea! But not by letting you marry that bastard!"

"Then what are you going to do? Refuse the marriage proposal?" Andrea narrowed her eyes. "He is the king from a big kingdom."

"It is better to turn down his proposal!" Alexis replied in an uncontrollably high tone.

"You are crazy!" accused Andrea.

"And you’re even crazier! No one in their right mind would want to marry that barbarian!"

"Me! I will marry him! And prove that I will be the queen while you are only the crown prince for the rest of your life!" Andrea exclaimed, pointing at Alexis’ chest with a sharp sentiment.

The woman left the throne room. Alexis looked at his sister in disbelief.

"You really are out of your mind, Andrea!" he shouted as the hall doors closed.

Alexis calmed down his breath that was panting due to holding back his anger. In the empty hall, Alexis fell down on the golden throne where his father had been sitting. Andrea’s words echoed in his head.

What did she say? All his life he would only be a crown prince? Alexis gripped the armrest of the throne until his knuckles turned white.

He just didn’t want his siblings to go to the North! That was all he wanted! And now Andrea, his own little sister, said something he hated so much!

The reason why Alexis wanted Arielle to marry Duke Pellington was that it would let him become heir to the throne.

His mother, Queen Rosalie, always said that his other brothers from the king’s concubines could take his place if the king saw that they could bring more luck.

With Arielle marrying Duke Pellington, Queen Rosalie could adopt Arielle as her daughter because Arielle did not have a formal mother. That meant Duke Pellington would be bound by Rosalie’s family. And the son of the other concubines had less and less chance of overthrowing Alexis from the throne.

The crown prince was also not willing if Andrea or Annalise, his biological sisters, were married off to an old man who already had two wives.

Alexis cursed loudly until it echoed throughout the hall. He didn’t realize that the door to the hall had been open all this time.

"Well, you look disheveled."

Alexis looked up quickly at Archie, the eldest son of the third concubine. Archie was the king’s sixth child and the third prince of Nieverdell. Out of his many siblings, Alexis hated Archie the most.
