Chapter 155: The Story Of The White-Haired Woman (1)

Alexis clenched his fists, trying to be patient. He took a deep breath and then exhaled slowly. It seemed that his father was in a bad mood.

Alexis wouldn’t bother his father anymore. However, of course, he would bring this topic back as soon as possible. He could not let Arielle linger in the North any longer.

After the door closed. King Hugo rubbed his face tiredly. He rested his head on his hands. He didn’t like the news Alexis brought. Arielle would be in the North even longer? The man shook his head roughly.

All this time, he had been indifferent to the child. He even agreed to the proposal of Duke Pellington, an old man who already had two wives, when he said he wanted to marry Arielle. But why was it that the thought about Arielle would be in the North even longer upset him?

King Hugo opened the bottom drawer of his desk. He picked up all the piles of paper and books and reached for a small book with a red leather cover. The man stood up from his work chair and grabbed a chair by the window.

In front of him were many beautiful green mountains. From where he was, he could also see the bustle of the capital city of Nieverdell, which was never quiet.

He untied the rope wrapped around the book and opened one page at a time. There was no writing there. Just a few sketches that were made roughly using a pencil.

On the first page, there was a sketch of the mountains that were now the scene he saw, then on the next page was the palace with the flower garden which was always blooming.

Nieverdell was a blessed kingdom. Sunlight was always present throughout the year, and rainfall was also never missing. Maybe during the dry season, some lakes would shrink but never dry up because not long after, the rain would return to fill the lakes.

Many plants thrived. Assorted fruits and assorted colors of flowers, Nieverdell had it all.

King Hugo turned a page, and there was a sketch of a beautiful woman with a cat on her lap. The page looked crumpled as if it had been kneaded by someone before. He had an unpleasant memory of the long white-haired woman.

King Hugo was in a denial phase that he had been abandoned. And all this was caused by one of his children who had the same hair like the woman in the sketches.

The next few pages were full of sketches of the same woman on various backgrounds. There was a picture of the woman when she was laughing while swinging under the swing of a tree.

The figure of the woman who was drying clothes on the clothesline. The woman was healing the leg of a horse. There were also lots of close-up sketches of faces.

Those were the sketches of Arielle’s mother. She was the woman who had stolen the king’s heart and broke it at the same time.

Their meeting happened more than twenty years ago. When King Hugo just had his wedding due to an arranged marriage for the umpteenth time. It was true, King Hugo married to strengthen his political status and expand his domain.

Together with his new concubine, he visited a manor in a suburb near Thebis Kingdom. The area was so beautiful that King Hugo made it a place for his honeymoon. However, who would have thought, when he was on his honeymoon he met a new maid who was so beautiful.

King Hugo fell in love at first sight. She had shiny white hair, big, sparkling eyes. Likewise, her small smiling lips were so charming.

Since he was a king, King Hugo simply admired the woman from a distance. He could only steal glances when passing or drew the woman secretly when no one was around.

When he had to return to the palace, his mind always revolved around the white-haired woman. Whenever there was an opportunity, King Hugo always left the palace. Just to stay a while in that manor.

King Hugo began to muster up the courage to greet the servant. The two of them became closer as time went by because King Hugo always took the time to visit the manor with the excuse that he had other business outside the palace.

Over time, King Hugo’s feelings grew warmer as time went on. He also decided to propose to the woman and took her to the palace, as he could not contain his longing when he was away in the palace.

Before returning to the royal palace, King Hugo also married the woman. It was a small wedding in the presence of a priest in a small cathedral in the area.

The wedding was attended by local residents. The two of them were quite happy together until the woman became pregnant. And King Hugo was increasingly unable to leave the woman alone in the manor.

King Hugo brought the woman back with him to the royal palace. After only a few days in the palace, she began to feel ostracized by the other concubines of the king. It was all because King Hugo clearly showed his favor towards her.

He loved her so much that he forgot about his other wives. At first, the woman thought that she could last as long as the king loved her. However, all of that was not as beautiful as the sweet promise of the king.

Even though the man always visited her every night, accompanied her for walks in the garden, or gifted her with many jewels, she could not be as happy as she had been before when they were together in the manor. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

She began to realize her position. She was just a servant who happened to get the attention of the king. All the other wives of the king were noblewomen. She was increasingly ostracized, and the feeling of depression made the woman cry every night.
