Love Strategy: CEO He is Really Scheming!-Chapter 249 Inexpressible Deep Love [6]
Even though she was a socialite, attending numerous banquets every day, she didn’t like any of them. Keeping a stiff smile, exchanging insincere pleasantries, she’d seen too much of it.
Sometimes she wondered, if she weren’t the eldest daughter of the Grant Family, would these people still flock to her for warm conversations?
Midway through the evening, the sky over City C suddenly burst into a blaze of vibrant fireworks. She hadn’t seen such a magnificent display for a long time abroad; it was beautiful, so beautiful it moved her heart.
With him by her side, even the air felt wonderful.
As she watched the brilliant fireworks, she couldn’t help but curl her lips into a smile, silently murmuring to herself, "City C, I’m back. Aidan, it’s been so long, I want to say, Aidan, I missed you so much abroad."
But these words, she could only say to herself, unable to reveal a hint of her thoughts.
Whilst she was lost in thought watching the fireworks, she heard his voice, tinged with loneliness and desolation, sighing, "No matter how resplendent the fireworks, they are but fleeting, like the moonlight flower that blooms only for a night."
"And so what if it’s just a fleeting bloom? It was once magnificent and beautiful, and it blossomed for those who appreciated it, so it was worth it." She retorted instinctively.
Just like her feelings for him. As a young girl, she fell in love at first sight, but owing to the marriage arrangement between the Grant and Sutherland Families, she buried these feelings deeply. Even if she were to marry Aidan Sutherland, she would never completely forget the image once blossoming in her heart.
"Aidan... did you ever meet someone who blossomed magnificently for you? Even if... it was just a fleeting bloom?" she probed nervously, her heart pounding.
In truth, she wanted more to know if he had dated any girl in the past five years.
Daisy Grant turned her head to look at him, seeing only a calm and undisturbed look in his eyes, matching his current indifferent expression.
He replied to her, "Yes, it ended without resolution."
Daisy Grant’s heart felt as if pierced by a sharp blade. She clutched the bouquet of roses tightly; someone had actually entered his heart, passed through his world.
She felt envious, jealous, hateful of something she dared not contemplate or possess.
Everyone knew Daisy Grant was Aidan Sutherland’s fiancée. Even if she had someone she liked in her heart, what could she do about it?
As the daughter of a wealthy family, her marriage had been predetermined from birth; if not Aidan, it would have been someone else of equal standing. Their marriage alliance was purely for the interests of their two families, devoid of genuine affection.
The reason it wasn’t Dawn Sutherland was simply because he was the illegitimate child of the Sutherland Family; her parents wouldn’t allow her to marry an illegitimate child. Moreover, she’d been betrothed to Aidan Sutherland, the eldest son, since childhood. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Watching the skylight slowly draw its curtains, her expression turned bleak, her eyes veiled with a thin layer of moisture, as she closed them, hoping he wouldn’t notice.
Whether it was due to exhaustion or his presence, she quickly slipped into a deep, peaceful sleep.
When she awoke, she found she was already home, the driver’s seat empty.
Cradling the bouquet of roses, she hurried out of the car, asking the servant standing nearby, "Where did Aidan go?"
"Young Master Dawn has already returned."
"Returned..." Daisy Grant murmured, looking down at the roses in her hands, then asked, "How did he leave if the car is still here?"
"I offered Young Master Dawn another car to drive back, but he refused. He said you’re his future sister-in-law, and if people saw him driving your car, it might cause unnecessary trouble for you, so..."
At the mention of "future sister-in-law," a sharp pain struck Daisy Grant’s heart. She rasped, "So, he walked back?"
Afraid of waking her, he had preferred to walk back. He remained as he always was, polite and considerate to everyone. To her, and to others, he showed the same unwavering courtesy.
