Chapter 76: Replace Her

Curious, she opened the folders to reveal two movie scripts.

"Where’d you get this?". She looked up at him and asked.

"I wanted to present it to you as a gift earlier but I don’t see any reason not to now". Zeke replied and she blushed.

"Quickly see and check if there’s anyone that catches your interest". He added and she opened the folder, her eyes skimming through both quickly, her eyes lighting up when she found one that intrigued her.

"IDEAL YOU" she read the title aloud as she skimmed through the pages. It was a romance comedy about a girl who disguises herself as a boy to attend an all-boys school on scholarships not until she was eventually discovered.

The premise was unique, and she could already imagine the challenge it would bring. She checked the side story and everything, at the end she couldn’t stop smiling.

The role enough was challenging, needs a lot of practice and could challenge her inner mind and skills and instantly she fell in love with the story.

"This is the one". She said, smiling. "I like it, it’s challenging and even seems fun besides I can also horne my skills with it also."

Zeke nodded approvingly, a wide grin spreading across his face. "Great minds indeed think alike. I had a feeling you’d choose that one. It’s yours if you want it."

"Really?". Yvette grinned. "Just like that".

"Hmm". Zeke grinned from ears to ears happy to see her excited expression. "We’ll meet old Dennis later for dinner and I’ll show him the best female lead he could ever get ".

"How come I never realized you’ve become a professional bootlicker". Yvette laughed. "How could you be so sure that I’m the best for the role".

"Because I believe in you". Zeke said as he embraced her. "Just prepare yourself for the audition and it’s all yours, that I know because I believe in you, in your dreams".

She laughed softly, her heart feeling lighter and warmer. "Thank you. I didn’t want to bring this up, but I really appreciate it."

He leaned closer, his voice soft but firm. "Don’t ever hesitate to tell me if something’s wrong. I want to be there for you, always."

Yvette nodded, feeling a warmth spread through her chest. "I promise. And I’m sorry for keeping it from you."

Just then, her phone rang and she immediately fumbled for it in her handbag , upon seeing the caller’s ID which was Leila, she almost jumped up and grabbed her bag.

"I’ll be there in a bit". She said onto the phone and hanged up before pressing a small kiss on the curious Zeke’s temples.

"I have a shoot this very evening, a brand endorsement for a jewelry company, Senoria". Yvette explained carefully before she excused herself, promising to be back soon.

The soft hum of activity outside was muted within the dressing room, where an air of quiet elegance reigned. The golden accents of the walls glimmered in the glow of an ornate chandelier, its light cascading over the velvet upholstery and the polished vanity. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

The room was like a cocoon, shielding everyone inside from the bustling set just beyond the door.

Seated before the wide mirror, Yvette studied her reflection in the mirror. The makeup artist had worked her magic, soft, shimmering hues brought out the warmth in her almond-shaped eyes, her cheeks glowed with a delicate flush, and her lips, painted a deep crimson, seemed to hold a secret.

She looked the part of a perfect bride, a vision of sophistication and romance.

Behind her, Leila adjusted her blazer with a sigh of relief. "We made it just in time,". She remarked, smoothing the lapel. "I swear, if you weren’t such a punctual person, I’d have had a heart attack. But look at you, you’re absolutely stunning. I can’t wait for the shoot, I can’t wait for you to put on the dress ." She gushed, brushing off the invisible dust off her sleeves.

Yvette offered a faint smile and tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear.

Her gaze drifted to the display of jewelry arranged on the vanity. Diamonds sparkled like captured starlight: an intricate crown, cascading necklaces, and a collection of rings that seemed too beautiful to be real.

Her fingers grazed one of the rings, a delicate band adorned with tiny diamonds, and a strange pang resonated in her chest.

A rush of longing resonated in her chest and quickly she placed the ring back and exhaled before her emotions get the best of her.

"Have you seen the actor Dylan yet?". She suddenly asked, glancing at Leila through the mirror.

Leila seemed to be in thoughts for a while às if thinking if shed seen him anywhere around the set and then frowned, checking her phone. "No idea. Let me go find out,". She said, already moving toward the door.

Left àlone, Yvette allowed herself to take in the room’s opulence. Her eyes wandered over the gilded picture frames and the intricately carved legs of the furniture.

Then, something unusual caught her attention, It was a small, glittering neatly wrapped gift box sitting on the vanity.

It was so simple, so understated yet giving luxury, that it seemed almost out of place among the extravagant jewelry.

Frowning, she picked it up. "Did the makeup artist leave this?". She murmured to herself, curiously inspecting the box.

Her fingers paused when she recognized the handwriting on the attached note, slightly uneven, unmistakably familiar.

And her lips immediately curved into a huge smile and she was left wondering if Zeke knew earlier that she had a commercial shoot with Senoria but it did seems like he knew even before she told him else he wouldn’t have prepared something of the such.

With care, she carefully unwrapped the box, revealing a luxirious, beautifully crafted couple’s ring laying within.

Inside the luxuriously customized band, their names were engraved in delicate script: Yvie and Zeke forever. And alongside with it was a handwritten note:

"To the most beautiful bride, even if it’s just for the camera today. I’ll always be your groom. Wear this and think of me, okay?"

Yvette couldn’t help but chuckled, a soft, breathy sound that carried warmth and love. She quickly reached for her phone and dialed his number.

"Hello?" His voice, rich and familiar, instantly eased the tension in her chest.

"Mr Lorenzo". She smiled as she said, her voice brimming with happiness. "I got your gift. It’s beautiful. I love it."

"You do?". He teased. "I was worried you’d think it was too cheesy."

"Cheesy?" She laughed. "Not at all. It’s perfect and I can’t wait to wear it. Thank you."

"Good,". He replied, the smile and satisfaction in his voice unmistakable. "How’s the shoot going?"

She couldn’t help but hesitated, her smile faltering slightly. "I haven’t started yet, i haven’t even seen the actor yet. I’ll check on things now. Let me call you later, okay?"

"Alright,". He said, pausing briefly before adding, "Yvie?"

"Yes?"

"I love you."

She froze for a moment, letting his words wrap around her. "I love you too," She said softly, her voice barely above a whisper.

When she stepped outside, Leila i was waiting in the hallway.

"Did you find him?" . Yvette asked quite worriedly.

Leila shook her head. "No sign of him. The director looks like he’s about to implode, though. Let’s see what’s going on."

Then the two approached the director, Mr Rogers who was pacing to and fro frustratedly near the set with his phone clutched tightly in his hand.

His furrowed brows and taut lips betrayed his frustration. He ended a call with a sharp motion and looked up as they arrived.

"Mr. Rogers, is there a problem?". Leila asked, her tone clipped.

"Hmm . ." . Mr Rogers hesitated, his gaze shifting awkwardly between the two ladies. "It’s the actor,". He said finally.

"And what’s wrong with him, did anything happen?". Yvette asked worriedly.

"He’s refusing to come unless..." He trailed off, running a hand through his hair frustratedly as he closed his eyes shut.

"Unless what?" . Yvette pressed, her tone steady but her eyes narrowing. She could already tell where this was going already but she at least wanted to hear it from him.

Mr Rogers sighed, visibly uncomfortable. "Unless we replace you."

Yvette breath hitched, but she kept her expression composed as she tried to fish out the main reason he wanted her replaced. "Why?"

"Something about... history,". Mr Rogers admitted reluctantly. "He didn’t go into detail, but he’s adamant. And he’s the top choice here. I’ve been trying to reason with him, but..."

Leila’s eyes flashed with indignation. "This is ridiculous! . Yvette here is the star of this campaign, who is he to dictate the terms. If he doesn’t want to work with her, maybe he’s the one who should be replaced."

Yvette raised a hand to quiet her manager. "No," she said firmly and faced the director. "So what do you plan on doing?"

"I don’t even know at this point, I’m stuck right now and I don’t know what decision to make. Dylan here is the perfect choice for this shoot, there’s no way to find any other person who could replace him perfectly in such a short amount of time and you . . I don’t even know what to do".
