Chapter 75: Ideal You

The next weekend, the sun dipped low, painting the living room in hues of amber and soft pink.

The air conditioner hummed faintly, a stark contrast to the sharp and animated voice of Leila , which bounced off the cream walls.

"I don’t get it!". Leila’s frustration was palpable as she paced the room, her heeled boots clicking against the wooden floor. "How could they just yank that role from you? You were perfect for it, and now Skye swoops in just because she’s loaded? Seriously, what is this, a soap opera? Because I don’t understand" .

Yvette, dressed in a loose cardigan and denim skirt sat quietly on the couch with her long black hair loosely pinned behind her head, let out a long, tired sigh as she sat on the plush sofa, her fingers absentmindedly tracing the rim of her coffee mug. She glanced up at Leila as she watched her tirade with a tired expression, trying to steady her nerves.

"Actually, Skye . . She is... my sister-in-law,". Yvette began quietly, the words slipping from her lips with a hint of reluctance and Leila paused mid-step in her actions of pacing to and fro, her eyebrows raised in curiousity.

"Wait, hold up . . . Skye is your... sister-in-law?". She repeated, eyes wide with surprise.

"Yes". Yvette nodded, her expression distant as she took a long sip of her coffee as if bracing herself up for her reaction. "And she . ., Well, she has a thing for my husband".

For a moment, silence hung thick in the air. Leila’s mouth opened and closed like a fish gasping for air. "You’re telling me this gold-digging, role-stealing drama queen is family, sister-in-law as of that? And she’s got a crush on your husband?!" .

"Nope, this is unbelievable. You mean she’s actually after your husband and she also used her wealth and fame to steal your role?". Leila’s eyes grew even wider, her voice tinged with disbelief.

Yvette’s lips quirked into a sad, half-hearted smile. "I don’t want to make trouble within the family, especially when it’s... complicated. I mean he doesn’t even knows of it nor does anyone. Everything is at stake here, the family’s reputation, Zeke’s image . Things hasn’t exactly been rosy and I don’t want to add more tension than there already is."

Leila threw her hands up in exasperation and her face softened though she was still clearly upset. "But this is not fair to you, I mean this is blatant sabotage. She’s stealing opportunities from you!"

Yvette sighed again, setting her mug down on the table. "I know, but I can’t just make a scene. I don’t want to be the problem nor do I want to ruin the delicate balance left in his family. Besides, there’s no point in fighting this now, what’s done is done" .

"But what do we do now, filming has been long concluded and all you’ve been in since is just brand endorsement and all . How are we about to go on . You know how dirty the industry is, how things can change overnight, how people can forget overnight. You’re not just going to sit at home and let people forget who you are, you’ve gotten to this point with hardwork, we can’t back off now and time is not on our side. Finding another project is going to consume a lot of time and energy". Leila huffed in frustration, crossing her arms.

"I trust you anyways". Yvette smiled and patted her shoulders encouragingly. "And who says we’re giving up so easily, I’m just drawing lines".

Leila stared at her for a long moment, then clenched her jaw. "Fine. But I promise you, I’ll find something else for you. You’re too talented to be sitting at home, wasting away. I won’t let you fade into obscurity. You’ll be back on top soon, I’ll make sure of it. You’ll have a new role even before she finishes her first scene, I promise you that".

Yvette gave a small, grateful nod, though her heart felt heavy and Leila with a final look of determination, left, leaving her alone in the vast, quiet house.

Yvette sank deeper into the couch, her gaze drifting to the window. Outside, the city bustled with life, but inside, her heart felt heavy. She leaned her head back and closed her eyes, her thoughts swirling.

A sudden buzz on the coffee table snapped her from her reverie. She reached for her phone, her heart lifting at the sight of her husband’s name.

It was a message from her dearest husband: Zeke. "Are you bored or feeling lone at home? Come visit me at the office if you’re free. I’ll be here and we can play together."

Her lips curled into a soft smile as relief washed over her. Setting the phone aside, she stood up, moving toward the kitchen. There, she busied herself with making a simple dish a hearty chicken and vegetable stir-fry, one of Zeke’s favorites.

Within minutes, she was busy chopping vegetables, the rhythmic sound soothing her nerves. She whipped up a chicken stir fry, the savory aroma filling the kitchen.

She then carefully placed the steaming meal into a love flask, careful not to spill, then grabbed her bag before heading out.

The sleek office lobby greeted her with cool marble floors and walls of glass. A young man with a crisp navy suit and an easy smile approached her.

"Good afternoon, Mrs. Lorenzo . Mr Lorenzo is in an emergency meeting at the moment but he said I should let you know to feel at home. You can wait in the office, look around or relax in the lounge, whichever you prefer".

She smiled politely, her eyes brightening a bit at the thought of seeing him. "Thank you. I’ll just wait for him to finish."

The assistant nodded respectfully and led her to the CEOs office, which exuded quiet sophistication, muted tones, clean lines, and subtle personal touches.

She wandered around, admiring the carefully arranged books and minimalist decor.

The walls were a cool gray, accented by minimalist decor, white marble floors, glass partitions, and contemporary art hanging in frames.

The office had a clean, polished feel to it, but there was something warm and inviting about the space. She admired the design for a moment before deciding to head to the lounge.

The lounge was cozy, much more like a small apartment than a typical office area. Plush seating, soft lighting, a small kitchenette and a bookshelf filled with various novels and magazines gave it a homely atmosphere. She sank into one of the chairs and closed her eyes for a moment, relishing the quiet.

She relaxed for a while and then returned to the office , settling on the couch, her thoughts drifting until the door opened.

Minutes later, the door opened with a soft click, and Zeke stepped in , his suit jacket slightly rumpled and his tie loosened. The fatigue on his face melted into a warm smile when he saw her.

"Hey," He greeted, walking over and pressing a kiss to her forehead. "I wasn’t sure you’d come."

"But I did anyway and I brought you something." She smiled as she handed him the flask, her eyes sparkling. "Your favorite stir-fry dish".

Zeke merrily accepted the flask and opened it, the aroma making him smile wider. "You spoil me, you know that?" He sat at his desk, immediately digging in. "How was your day?"

"Quiet," She replied, leaning against the desk as she watched him eat quietly. "Nothing special."

He glanced up, his gaze softening. "You sure? You seem... off. You know, I can always tell when something’s bothering you." 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

She hesitated, then sighed before answering. "Skye took the role I was supposed to starr in. My manager told me earlier. But I didn’t want to bother you with it."

Zeke’s expression immediately darkened, his utensils pausing mid-air. "Why didn’t you tell me sooner?"

"It’s complicated," She admitted quietly. "She’s your family. I didn’t want to make things awkward or troublesome for you."

Zeke then set the food aside and stood up walking over to her and taking her hands in his. "You’re my priority. Always. Don’t let anyone, family or not, make you feel otherwise."

He then walked back to his desk and pulled out two folders bringing them over to her. "Here,". He said, handing them to her. "I thought you might like these, take a look and see if there might be something that catches your interest."

Curious, she opened the folders to reveal two movie scripts.

"Where’d you get this?". She looked up at him curiously with doeful eyes and asked.

"I wanted to present it to you as a gift earlier but I don’t see any reason not to now". Zeke replied and she blushed immediately opening the folder and skipping through the pages.

"Quickly see and check if there’s anyone that catches your interest". He added and she opened the folder, her eyes skimming through both quickly, her eyes lighting up when she found one that intrigued her.
