Chapter 76: Chapter 76: "If I Were to Love Someone, I Would Choose Mr. Harrison First.

Sean Harrison’s brow furrowed, his emotions plain to see.

Rory Linden took a sip of her milk tea and smiled. "Mr. Harrison, you don’t have to be like this. I remember what you said."

Sean Harrison looked over at her.

"If I’m going to be your girlfriend, I can’t fall in love with anyone else." Rory repeated the man’s words from that night as they walked. "If I were to love someone, I would definitely choose Mr. Harrison first. I wouldn’t choose anyone else."

She already had an answer in her heart regarding her feelings for Sean Harrison.

But his proposition of an unchangeable relationship had certainly put pressure on her.

If Sean Harrison were just an ordinary person, like a colleague or a classmate, she probably wouldn’t have seen any issue with such a commitment.

But the gap between them was just too wide.

There were too many uncertainties.

’For example... Charlotte Rhodes might allow me to be her granddaughter-in-law, but she wouldn’t necessarily allow me to be her daughter-in-law.’

"I’m sorry. I wasn’t thinking clearly that day, and I pushed you too hard," Sean Harrison said, taking the opportunity to apologize. "You don’t need to feel so constrained. If you fall in love with someone else, it can only mean I wasn’t good enough. In that case, I’d be willing to admit defeat."

"I don’t think there’s a man in this world who’s a better catch than you, Mr. Harrison. If even you aren’t good enough, then there are probably no good men left on earth."

Rory Linden was telling the truth.

In terms of looks, temperament, personality, ability, and wealth, Sean Harrison was top-tier. Plus, he had no prior relationship experience.

He was practically a hexagon warrior.

Rory Linden was just used to thinking she wasn’t the lucky type.

Now that good fortune had suddenly fallen upon her, she found it a little hard to believe.

The two of them went to the supermarket together and bought groceries, eggs, toilet paper, and other things.

Since Sean Harrison was with her today, Rory Linden also took the opportunity to buy heavy items like rice, flour, and cooking oil.

Grandma Thorne lived in a shantytown in South Veridia, near the city center.

Most of the houses in the vicinity had been torn down, but for some unknown reason, this small patch had been spared from demolition.

The entire area was filled with two-story buildings and narrow roads cluttered with junk. Cars couldn’t get through, so they had to go in on foot.

It was already seven in the evening when they arrived. The lights in the vast majority of the houses in the shantytown were dark; it seemed most of the residents had already moved out.

The streetlights by the road were broken, too.

Rory Linden used her phone as a flashlight to find their way to Grandma Thorne’s home.

"This is it."

Rory Linden pointed to one of the houses.

The houses near Grandma Thorne’s were all dark. Only hers had a lone, low-wattage light on.

"The light is so dim." Sean Harrison couldn’t help but frown. "I’ll go buy a lightbulb in a bit."

"She has some at home. I bought some for her before, but Grandma Thorne’s eyesight is poor. She says it’s the same to her whether the light is on or off."

Rory Linden said as she led Sean Harrison into the building.

The door to the apartment was ajar.

Rory Linden knocked before pushing the door open and walking in.

The room was small but clean, furnished with only simple pieces.

"Is that Young Linden?"

The old woman was sitting on the sofa, and a tape recorder next to her was making a warbling sound.

Rory Linden quickly put down the things in her hands and went over to take the old woman’s hand. "Grandma Thorne, I’m here to see you. I brought a friend to see you today, too."

"A friend? Good, good. Thank you. I’m always troubling you every month."

The old woman’s voice was hoarse, and her hand gripped Rory Linden’s tightly.

"Let me take your blood pressure first."

Rory Linden said as she took out her equipment.

Sean Harrison also put his things down and walked over, saying politely, "Grandma Thorne, hello. I’m a friend of Rory Linden’s. My name is Sean Harrison."

"A boy..."

The old woman’s voice was clearly filled with delight.

"Yes."

"That’s wonderful, that’s wonderful."

As Rory Linden was taking Grandma Thorne’s blood pressure, the lightbulb in the living room flickered.

Sean Harrison stood up. "Where are the new bulbs? I can help change it."

The man was very tall. He just had to step on a small stool to change the bulb.

After changing the lightbulb, he also helped check the other appliances and the plumbing and electricity in the house.

Rory Linden was stunned after watching him check everything. "You actually know how to do all this?"

In her eyes, Sean Harrison possessed endless wealth. Trivial matters like these would naturally be handled by a butler; he would never need to do them himself.

Sean Harrison put down the tools in his hand. "I rented a place for a while when I was in school and learned how to do it all."

"Oh, I see..."

Rory Linden found it a bit hard to imagine.

’Even if Sean Harrison rented a place,’ she thought, ’he probably wouldn’t have had to do these things himself, right?’

Grandma Thorne, sitting on the sofa, beckoned to Sean Harrison. "Young Harrison, my eyes are bad. Come sit a little closer."

Once Sean Harrison sat down next to her, she began to ask, "So, Young Harrison, what do you do for work?"

"My work covers a wide range of fields. Software development, artificial intelligence, and so on."

"Good, good. That sounds like a good job. How much is your salary?"

"My salary..."

"Is it ten thousand a month?"

"Yes."

"Do you have a car?"

"Yes."

"What about a house?"

"I have one of those, too."

Knowing that Sean Harrison had a house and a car, Grandma Thorne’s expression relaxed. After a moment’s thought, she asked again, "Then tell me, is Young Linden pretty? Does she have a good personality?"

"She’s very pretty, she has a great personality, she’s good at her job... Everything about her is wonderful."

Sean Harrison was never stingy with his praise for Rory Linden.

"Young Linden is a good child. I’ve heard her talk about you before. I’ve always wanted to meet you, and today I finally did." Grandma Thorne fumbled for Sean Harrison’s hand and patted it. "I can tell at a glance that you’re a good kid. I hope you’ll treat Young Linden well."

"I will."

Sean Harrison promised.

The old woman used the cabinet next to the sofa to help herself up. She fumbled her way to the TV stand, took out a box from inside, walked over to Rory Linden, and pressed it into her hand.

Rory Linden knew at a glance it was a jewelry box!

"Grandma, I can’t accept this!"

Rory Linden refused immediately.

"It’s just a pair of silver earrings, nothing valuable. This old woman doesn’t have anything of value. Are you two getting married? Consider this my wedding gift to you." The old woman forcefully pushed the box back into Rory Linden’s hand. "If you refuse, it means you’re looking down on it because it’s cheap." 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

After much hesitation, Rory Linden said, "Thank you, Grandma."

"Don’t mention it. You come to see me every month and bring so many things. I’m the one who should be thanking you," the old woman said.

Rory Linden and Sean Harrison stayed at the old woman’s home for a few more hours. They had dinner with her, cleaned up the dishes, and put everything away before they left.

On the way back, Rory Linden sat in the passenger seat and said, "I’m sorry. A few years ago, I mentioned Miles Harrison to Grandma Thorne. She must have mistaken you for him, which is why she thought we were getting married."

Rory Linden wasn’t old.

But in Grandma Thorne’s eyes, she was at the perfect age for marriage.

"It’s fine. It doesn’t matter who she mistook me for."

Sean Harrison didn’t mind.

The car drove down the road.

There was less traffic at night, so the roads should have been clear, but they suddenly hit a traffic jam near an intersection.

The two of them stopped the car.

As a doctor, Rory Linden considered that someone might be injured in an accident, so she proactively got out of the car and walked toward the scene.

Sure enough, there had been a car accident.

A middle-aged man, who looked to be in his thirties or forties, was lying on the ground in front of the foremost car. A laptop bag was next to him.

The driver of the car was standing nearby, yelling, "Stop trying to pull a fucking scam! I’m telling you, I didn’t even hit you! I’ve got a dashcam!"

Rory Linden pushed through the crowd to get closer and noticed that the man lying on the ground had an unnatural color.

She rushed over, first checking the man’s breathing and heartbeat. Realizing something was wrong, she immediately said, "He’s passed out! I’m going to perform CPR. Can someone please call 911?"

As she spoke, Rory Linden began to perform CPR.

She had just placed both her hands on the man’s chest and hadn’t even started compressions when the driver kicked her, knocking her to the ground.

The driver pointed at her and cursed, "Who the hell are you? You’re with him, aren’t you? You’re his shill, right?"
