Love at First Sight? Mr. Harrison Has Been Scheming All Along-Chapter 75: "Dr. Linden, Are You Going on a Date with Your Boyfriend?
Rory Linden was slightly stunned. She never knew the details of Sean Harrison’s daily work, only that he seemed to be in Veridia most of the time and didn’t travel for business often.
’I never expected...’
He actually went to all the trouble of making a same-day round trip.
Take today, for instance. She only knew that he had left earlier than usual, but she had no idea he was going to Cervia City on business.
"Alright, then let’s go together. Just let me know if you get bored and want to leave early." Rory Linden added, "I need to go to the supermarket to buy some things after I get off work. Do you want to come with me?"
"Yeah, I’ve already gotten my luggage. I’m heading to the hospital entrance now to wait for you."
Sean Harrison was quick to agree.
He could sense that ever since the day he couldn’t stop himself from revealing his true feelings to Rory Linden, she had clearly been a little flustered.
’Maybe I really did push her too hard.’
Even though he had secretly coveted her for so many years, he shouldn’t force these feelings and this pressure on her.
When Rory Linden returned to her office, she saw Evan Hollis inside, chatting with some colleagues.
When he saw her come in, Evan Hollis held his phone out to her. "Dr. Linden, you’re back! We’re ordering milk tea and coffee. Pick whatever you want, it’s my treat."
"What’s the special occasion?"
Rory Linden took the phone but didn’t order anything.
Colleagues at the hospital treated each other occasionally, but that was usually something the department directors did. It was rare for a single doctor to treat an entire department.
"It’s payday! This is my first time getting paid here. I’ve been involved in all the cardiothoracic surgeries lately, so it’s only right that I build a good rapport with everyone," Evan Hollis said cheerfully. "Don’t hold back, order whatever you want."
Rory Linden knew that anesthesiologists and surgeons weren’t in the same league.
She just ordered a standard medium bubble tea and handed the phone back.
Evan Hollis looked at her order and asked, "Just this? You don’t want any extra toppings? Or a milk cap?"
Rory Linden smiled and refused, "No thanks, I still want to have room for dinner."
Evan Hollis didn’t press the issue.
He didn’t rush off after placing the order, instead staying in the office to chat with everyone.
After a few minutes of conversation, Evan Hollis suddenly said, "Oh, right, is anyone free tonight? How about I treat you all to dinner?"
A colleague immediately replied with a regretful expression, "Sorry, I’m on duty tonight."
Rory Linden took the opportunity to add, "I have plans later as well."
A colleague chuckled. "Going on a date with your boyfriend, Dr. Linden?"
"No."
Rory Linden took the opportunity to explain the situation with Grandma Thorne to her colleagues.
This sort of thing wasn’t unheard of among doctors. Some would help patients in need whenever they could.
However, Elysian was a private hospital, so there were hardly any patients in difficult financial straits.
From behind his black-framed glasses, Evan Hollis’s eyes remained fixed on Rory Linden. He found a lull in the conversation to ask, "Dr. Linden, do you have a boyfriend?"
"I..."
"Yes, she does. Dr. Linden’s boyfriend is a VIC at our hospital—Sean Harrison, the chairman of Panda Tech."
Before Rory Linden could speak, a colleague immediately answered for her.
When she and Sean Harrison had first pretended to be a couple, the news had spread throughout the hospital in less than half a day.
Since then, her relationship with Sean Harrison had become somewhat ambiguous.
So their colleagues naturally assumed they were a couple. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
"Sean... Harrison." Evan Hollis slowly repeated the name. By the time he looked up, a smile had already returned to his face. "Is he famous? I’ll look him up."
Evan Hollis had been assigned to cardiothoracic surgeries lately.
So Rory Linden had gotten to know him a little.
Evan Hollis had grown up and attended university abroad, so it wasn’t surprising that he didn’t recognize the names of some of the country’s more prominent figures.
’She wasn’t really interested in wealthy socialites either. Before all this, she hadn’t known who Sean Harrison was, either.’
As Evan Hollis was looking down at his phone, a colleague chuckled. "Sean Harrison... Evan Hollis... you know, your names kinda sound alike!"
"They do?" Evan Hollis looked up, his perpetually smiling face unusually serious. "I don’t think so. We don’t even have the same last name."
Evan Hollis.
Sean Harrison.
Rory Linden repeated the names to herself.
’They don’t sound alike at all.’
The drinks finally arrived just two minutes before the end of their shift.
Rory Linden grabbed her bubble tea, thanked Evan Hollis, and got ready to head out.
"I’m getting off now too. Let’s walk out together."
Evan Hollis stood up from his chair.
Rory Linden didn’t feel she could refuse, so she simply agreed.
It was dusk by the time the two of them walked out of the inpatient building.
Rory Linden immediately spotted Sean Harrison standing a few yards away.
He was wearing a sapphire-blue shirt and dark dress pants. As he walked toward them, backlit by the warm sunset, his handsome, cool features seemed to soften.
"Mr. Harrison."
Rory’s spirits lifted unconsciously the moment she saw him, and she quickened her pace to his side.
Evan Hollis, maintaining his unhurried pace, walked up to Sean Harrison as well.
"This is..."
As Sean Harrison’s gaze fell on Evan Hollis, his dark eyes flashed with an unreadable emotion.
"This is Evan Hollis, our new anesthesiologist. He’s been assigned to our recent surgeries." After finishing the introduction, Rory turned to Evan. "Dr. Hollis, this is..."
Evan Hollis cut her off. "Your boyfriend, Sean Harrison, right?"
He was grinning as he spoke, the small dimples at the corners of his mouth particularly noticeable.
Rory Linden grew flustered, unsure how to explain for a moment.
Evan Hollis laughed. "Man, being single, I’ll never understand you couples. You’re dating, but you still call him Mr. Harrison? Is that some kind of pet name?"
His tone was entirely playful, but Rory Linden still blushed.
"That’s between the two of us, so I won’t be answering that," Sean Harrison said. "We have other business, so we’ll be going now."
Evan Hollis smiled and waved after them. "Alright, alright, I won’t be a third wheel. See ya!"
Watching the two turn away, the smile on Evan Hollis’s face completely vanished.
He adjusted the black-framed glasses on his face, his dark, somber eyes fixed on the man several yards away. The hand at his side slowly clenched into a fist.
Once they were a good distance away, Sean Harrison asked her, "You two are close?"
"Yeah, he’s great. Dr. Hollis is nice, and he’s skilled too."
Perhaps because their first conversation had gone so well, Rory Linden had a very good impression of Evan Hollis.
Sean Harrison said flatly, "Didn’t you say he’s new? Why such a high opinion of him? He looks young, about your age. He can’t have much experience, can he?"
Rory Linden didn’t think much of it when he first started talking.
But the more he spoke, the more she felt something was off...
Once he finished, she said deliberately, "Youth and skill aren’t mutually exclusive. For instance, even though I only graduated a year ago, I can already lead many surgeries. There are plenty of surgeons in their forties who aren’t as good as I am!"
"You’re exceptional. That doesn’t mean he is."
Sean Harrison’s tone was level, but he couldn’t hide a trace of displeasure.
’Rory Linden had always thought Sean Harrison was too perfect, too self-controlled. It seemed like nothing was ever a big deal to him. Nothing could ever seem to faze him.’
’Until now...’
Rory Linden lifted the bubble tea in her hand, bringing the straw to his lips. "Bubble tea? Want a sip?"
Sean Harrison lowered his eyes.
He’d never had bubble tea before and had no particular craving for it. But with the straw right at his lips, he couldn’t bring himself to refuse.
He lowered his head and took a gentle sip.
Seeing him take a sip, Rory Linden asked, "Is it good?"
"..." Sean Harrison swallowed his true assessment and said, "It’s okay."
Rory Linden said pointedly, "Dr. Hollis bought it for us."
