Chapter 136: Chapter 136: She Hadn’t Fastened Her Seatbelt Yet, the Man Leaned In and Kissed Her

Rory Linden’s grip on the steering wheel tightened slightly.

The car came to a stop at a red light.

She watched the countdown on the traffic light before speaking. "Young Master Harrison, whatever kind of person my boyfriend is, that’s between us."

Miles Harrison was slightly taken aback.

"Rory, you once told me your father was emotionally unstable—that he’d hit you and your mother, that he’d even hit her just for talking to other men. How can you be so sure my uncle isn’t the same kind of person?!"

Unwilling to give up, he pressed on.

"Even if he’s capable, how can you be sure you won’t suffer the same fate as your mother if you marry him?"

Miles Harrison’s words had already thrown Rory Linden’s thoughts into disarray.

These last few sentences landed like a bombshell.

Before her trip to the countryside, Rory Linden had already realized she didn’t know Sean Harrison well enough.

She was also certain that Nadia Willow knew some of the man’s hidden secrets.

Otherwise...

Sean Harrison would never have gone after her.

The light turned from red to green. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

The car started moving again.

Miles Harrison kept his eyes on the woman driving. "Rory, I know I have a lot of flaws, but I see my problems now. I’m willing to change. I’m really a better match for you than my uncle is..."

"Young Master Harrison," Rory Linden cut him off. "Whether your uncle is a good match for me or not, you definitely aren’t."

"Why..."

"You think I’m a good match for you because I was always putting up with you."

...

"And another thing. You talk about working hard and starting over, but if it weren’t for your uncle, the Harrington Family’s company would have already gone under. Don’t you know that?"

Rory Linden was done playing house with this young master.

She knew very well.

The life challenges faced by Miles Harrison and Sean Harrison were on completely different levels.

One was a pampered young master whose biggest hardship in life was that some people didn’t suck up to him when he first started working.

His entire good life had nothing to do with personal ability; it was all thanks to being born into the right family.

Sean Harrison, on the other hand, was completely different.

Even Sherry Walsh said he was practically a self-made man.

"But my uncle once nearly killed several of his classmates in school! It was Nadia Willow who found out and rescued them. If it weren’t for her, he’d be a murderer right now!" Miles burst out, agitated.

Rory Linden wasn’t about to join Miles Harrison in bad-mouthing Sean Harrison.

She glanced at him out of the corner of her eye and said, "Then you really should be thanking Miss Willow. If your uncle had gone to prison over that, there would have been no one to save the Harrington Family, and your good life would have ended years ago."

Every single word.

Every one of them hit Miles right where it hurt.

The car was silent for several minutes.

He looked at Rory Linden. "Rory, in your eyes, I’m completely incompetent, right?"

Before Rory Linden could answer,

her phone, which was in her purse, started to ring.

The purse was in the back seat.

Miles Harrison turned to grab the purse for her. Before he even took the phone out, he said, "It’s my uncle, isn’t it?"

"Probably."

Rory Linden also figured it was probably Sean Harrison.

"If I’m not mistaken, my uncle probably already knows you’re with me."

Miles Harrison didn’t get the phone.

He let the ringtone echo through the car.

Rory Linden slowed the car slightly, took the purse from him, placed it on her lap, and reached inside to pull out her phone.

It was indeed a call from Sean Harrison.

She took her Bluetooth earpiece from the purse, put it on, and then answered the call.

"Are you done with dinner with your friend?"

The man’s gentle voice came through the line.

"Mhm," Rory Linden replied. "We’re done."

"Are you heading back now? I’m out of the airport and almost in the city. Can I make it in time to pick you up?"

The man’s voice was unchanged.

Rory Linden stared straight ahead.

Miles Harrison’s words were still echoing in her mind.

’If she had a choice, she would have preferred to remain ignorant of Sean Harrison’s past.’

’Just like before.’

’Forever lost in his gentleness.’

"I just finished dinner with my friend. I was planning to walk around for a bit to digest, but I ran into... Young Master Harrison." Rory Linden paused before continuing, "I’m driving his car to take him home now, and then I’ll head back."

There was a long, long silence on the other end of the line.

After a long moment, Sean Harrison finally spoke. "Where are you now? How much longer until you get there?"

"About twenty minutes. We’re almost there." Rory Linden realized something. "Are you coming over? I’ll drive slower then. Don’t rush. I’ll wait for you at the entrance to the complex."

"Mhm, I’ll be there soon."

The man’s tone had already shifted from what it was a moment ago.

After hanging up, Rory Linden took off the earpiece and tossed it straight into her purse.

Her purse was still on her lap.

Miles Harrison asked, "What did my uncle say when you told him you were driving me home? He must be angry, right?"

"He said he’s coming to pick me up."

Rory Linden slowed the car.

"Rory, he’s someone who’s had thoughts of murder. You’re a doctor who saves lives. Do you really want to be with him? Be my girlfriend. I’ll treat you better."

"Young Master Harrison, why don’t you worry about yourself first? If your uncle stops helping you, could you really keep the company running?"

She didn’t want to listen to Miles Harrison drone on and on about Sean Harrison’s past.

’I’ll find out for myself when I have the chance.’

’Not...’

’from listening to him.’

At least, that’s what Rory Linden was thinking right now.

Her words silenced Miles Harrison.

He talked about running the company well, but without Sean Harrison, every move he made would be a struggle.

But he’d always felt that nothing was ever too difficult.

As long as he put his mind to it, he could do it well.

By the time Rory Linden slowly drove up to the villa where Miles Harrison lived, Sean Harrison’s car was already parked there.

The man saw Miles’s car arrive before he opened the driver’s side door and got out.

Rory Linden parked the car in a space before getting out.

Sean Harrison walked over and naturally took Rory’s hand.

His gaze shifted to Miles Harrison as he said, "Can’t drive yourself? You need my girlfriend to drive you home?"

"He was drinking, and some things happened earlier, so I offered to drive him back."

Rory Linden volunteered the explanation.

"Since he’s back, let’s go."

Sean Harrison pulled Rory Linden toward his own car.

Miles Harrison opened his mouth to say something, only to realize he had no ground to stand on.

He and Rory Linden had already broken up because he cheated.

In the meantime, he’d even gotten engaged to that other woman.

He was only able to keep his company afloat with Sean Harrison’s help.

A man like him had no right to say anything at this moment.

He could only watch helplessly as Rory Linden got into Sean Harrison’s car...

Rory Linden had just settled into the passenger seat and hadn’t even buckled her seatbelt when Sean Harrison reached over, his fingers pressing against the back of her head, and pulled her toward him...

...leaning in to kiss her.
