Chapter 135: Chapter 135: "Rory, Can You Come Back to Me...

Rory had indeed said those things to placate Miles Harrison and stop him from hurting Lucy Shaw.

But since she’d said it, she would follow through.

The two of them first went to a men’s clothing store on a lower floor.

This mall was a relatively high-end one.

In the past, Miles Harrison’s suits had all been custom-tailored by hand.

Even when buying luxury goods, he rarely visited the brands on the upper floors, always opting for the ultra-luxury brands downstairs.

This time, however, he picked a brand on an upper floor, and after trying on an outfit, he was clearly dissatisfied.

He tried on a few more suits before reluctantly picking one out.

When he asked for the price, his expression turned a little awkward.

Rory took it all in and said, "How about... I buy this for you?"

A suit that cost a few thousand.

In the past, he wouldn’t have given a suit like this a second glance.

But now, he looked troubled by the cost.

Rory figured they would probably see each other less and less in the future, so she might as well just buy it for him.

Miles Harrison quickly took out his own card. "I have money. Use my card!"

It was no longer that black card.

Rory could clearly sense the change in Miles Harrison.

It was a change brought on by a lack of money.

The Young Master Harrison of old was being forced to change.

The salesclerk swiped the card.

He tossed his old clothes aside right there in the store.

The two of them found a barbershop outside that was still open. He had the owner cut his hair, style it with wax, and give him a shave.

Once it was all done, Miles Harrison stared at himself in the mirror for a long time, adjusting his hair himself before turning to ask Rory, "How do I look?"

"Not bad."

Rory nodded in approval.

Only then did Miles Harrison pay and leave.

They walked to the ground-level parking lot together.

The man’s car was no longer his previous favorite, but a black BMW instead.

The car’s body was a little dirty.

That was something Miles Harrison used to care about the most.

He’d once thrown a fit because she forgot to get his car washed.

"The car’s a bit dirty. I haven’t gotten it washed recently."

There was a hint of bitterness in Miles Harrison’s voice as he spoke.

"It’s fine." Rory walked over to the driver’s side. "How about I drive?"

The man’s old suit from earlier had reeked of alcohol.

Now that he’d changed, the smell seemed to be gone.

Still, to be safe, Rory offered to drive.

Miles Harrison nodded.

When Rory opened the car door, the thick stench of alcohol assaulted her nose.

She couldn’t help but frown.

’To think that someone like Miles Harrison, who cherished his cars so much, would let the interior get like this.’

"Sorry about that. I threw up in the car a couple of days ago. I just wiped it down a bit and haven’t had a chance to get it cleaned." Afraid Rory would get the wrong idea, Miles Harrison added, "But I threw up in the back seat. The front is clean."

"It’s fine."

Rory didn’t really mind anyway.

After getting in, Rory opened all four windows and the sunroof to air the car out.

She didn’t start the car right away. Instead, she asked him, "Have you been drinking a lot lately?"

"Yeah..." Miles Harrison gave a bitter smile. "I was still drinking this morning and sleeping all day when a friend called and said he saw Lucy Shaw at the mall. I didn’t even think, I just rushed over..."

Rory could see his eyes were unfocused.

It was as if he still hadn’t fully sobered up.

She didn’t criticize his actions, simply saying, "Then you were pretty lucky you didn’t run into any traffic police. Otherwise, you’d have been caught for drunk driving."

"Yeah, yeah."

Miles Harrison nodded.

A brief silence fell inside the car.

Then, he said with a wry laugh, "Tell me, how did my life end up like this?"

Rory looked at him and said very seriously, "This doesn’t have much to do with Lucy Shaw."

The only connection to Lucy Shaw was that she shouldn’t have used someone else’s child to deceive Miles Harrison.

If the child in her belly had been Miles Harrison’s.

Things might have turned out differently.

But there was no point in talking about that now.

"Yeah, I know." Sitting in the passenger seat, Miles Harrison looked at her. "Rory, do you think I’m a good-for-nothing, too...?"

"You were just too sheltered."

Rory had always thought so.

She had known him for twenty years.

They had gone through their school years together.

Miles Harrison was a great tennis player and had even won championships among several private schools.

He’d had his moments of high spirits and ambition.

But just as he started working, his eldest uncle had an accident, and the Harrington Family was on the verge of collapse.

How could someone who had been put on a pedestal everywhere he went on campus be willing to bow his head to others at work?

Fortunately, Sean Harrison acquired the company not long after.

The Harrington Family’s fortunes began to turn around.

Out of respect for Sean Harrison, everyone was very deferential to him.

The stark contrast between then and now led the young master to become addicted to a life where he could spend money without working for it and continue to be fawned over by others.

"Rory, I thought it over while I was getting my hair cut. I’m going to start working hard tomorrow, run the company well, and really apply myself."

Miles Harrison looked at her. "So, can you come back to me...?"

Rory had been about to encourage him, but his words caught her completely off guard.

Before she could speak, the man continued, "You don’t have to be my girlfriend. Just like at the very beginning, let’s be friends. Seeing you often is the only thing that will give me motivation."

Rory felt a little helpless and decided to be blunt:

"Young Master Harrison, I’m not willing to. Everything I did for you back then, I only did because I owed a debt of gratitude to the Harrington Family."

For a moment, Rory even suspected that Miles Harrison had run out of money and couldn’t afford a housekeeper.

And that’s why he was now targeting her, his former free housekeeper.

Rory pressed the car’s start button. "Let me take you home first."

Miles Harrison quickly said, "I’m sorry, Rory. I didn’t mean anything by it. I just... I really miss our past..."

"Well, I’m sorry, but I don’t miss it at all." Rory drove the car out of the parking lot. "I don’t miss the days of slaving away for Young Master Harrison one bit."

It wasn’t just the days of serving him that she didn’t miss.

She also didn’t miss the days of constantly hearing that he was involved with other women.

"Rory, it won’t happen again. I’ll be good to you..."

"Young Master Harrison, I have a boyfriend now. I don’t need you to be good to me."

Rory’s feelings for Miles Harrison were nothing more than a momentary pang of pity.

November had already given way to winter.

There was hardly anyone on the streets at night.

The car drove smoothly along the city’s main road.

Miles Harrison watched Rory drive with concentration. "Rory, I know I did a lot of things to hurt you in the past. I’m not delusional enough to think you’d still want to be my girlfriend, especially since the man I am now doesn’t deserve you."

Rory kept her eyes on the road ahead.

She didn’t answer him.

"Rory, I talked a lot with Nadia Willow recently. She told me a lot of things about my Little Uncle’s past."

Miles Harrison fell silent for a moment before speaking again.

"Everything you see about my Little Uncle is a facade. His real personality is the complete opposite of how he is now, and he’s emotionally unstable."

"Young Master Harrison, I don’t need other people to tell me what kind of person my boyfriend is. I’ll be the judge of that myself."

Rory cut him off.

Miles Harrison looked at her. "What if he once attempted to murder someone?"
