Chapter 129: Chapter 129: Like Seeing Another Miles Harrison

Henry Lancaster’s gaze landed on Rory Linden first. He raised an arm and greeted her enthusiastically, "Sister-in-law! Long time no see."

Rory Linden: "..."

Henry Lancaster’s personality was completely different from Sean Harrison’s.

At least when it came to words, he never let himself be outdone.

He said whatever was on his mind, unable to wait even a minute.

As all eyes turned to them, Rory Linden frowned but said nothing.

Henry Lancaster didn’t seem to mind. He first addressed the crowd, "I’m just following orders. I don’t know a thing, so just do what you need to do. Don’t mind me."

After saying his piece, he walked over to Evan Hollis, slung an arm around the man’s shoulders, and said cheerfully, "Hey, handsome. My main purpose for coming here this time is to keep an eye on you."

Rory Linden glanced over.

The two men were similar in height and build.

With their shoulders hooked together, neither looked weaker than the other.

Henry Lancaster, completely unconcerned with anyone’s reaction, continued, "After all, my sister-in-law is so beautiful. With you two working together every day, we’re worried you might get ideas and covet someone you shouldn’t."

"President Lancaster."

Rory Linden had finally had enough.

’Henry Lancaster’s nonsense should at least have some limits.’

They were here to work, not on vacation.

The villagers who came for treatment every day presented all sorts of situations.

Some of the elderly were in the late stages of cancer with no money for treatment, repeatedly asking, "How long do I have if I don’t get treated?"

There was also a "left-behind child," several years younger than Maisie and not even in elementary school yet, who had a sexually transmitted disease.

Facing all these different situations constantly challenged their understanding of the world.

Some of the younger nurses would even watch the villagers leave, unable to afford treatment, and then secretly hide in their dorms to cry.

Under such circumstances, no one had the time or energy to think about other things.

"Sister-in-law, just call me Henry. If you call me that, my big brother will get mad at me."

Henry Lancaster still had that same devil-may-care attitude.

Rory Linden couldn’t be bothered with him.

Just like when Sean Harrison had visited, Henry Lancaster was staying in a separate room.

However, he was staying at the village’s guesthouse.

The conditions there were considered good.

Even so, the young master had still brought his own set of familiar bedding and a quilt.

Henry Lancaster ordered Evan Hollis to help him make the bed.

Rory Linden couldn’t stand to watch and offered to go along.

The three of them arrived at the room together.

Henry Lancaster glanced around the room, opened the only other door, and found a toilet inside.

A windowless bathroom!

A squat toilet!

He looked out the window again.

He turned and asked Rory Linden, "Did my big brother stay in a place like this before?"

Looking at Henry Lancaster, Rory Linden felt as if she were seeing another Miles Harrison.

She shook her head.

Just as Henry Lancaster was about to complain further...

...she continued, "The place your big brother stayed was even worse than this. There wasn’t even a restroom in his room, and he couldn’t take a shower."

Henry Lancaster’s eyes gradually widened.

Finally, he concluded, "Sister-in-law, my big brother must really love you."

Rory Linden ignored him and asked directly, "Mr. Lancaster, these are the conditions in the village. Have you decided if you’re going to stay? If you are, we’ll help you make your bed."

Henry Lancaster’s luggage was in the corner.

Three suitcases.

Along with unopened bedding and a silk quilt.

"I’m staying!" Henry Lancaster glanced at Evan Hollis, then said with even more certainty, "I absolutely have to stay!"

Only then did Rory Linden pick up the items to help him make the bed.

"Dr. Linden, let me. I know how to do all this."

Evan Hollis took the initiative and picked up the bedding.

Even so, Rory Linden helped from the side.

The two of them working together was much faster. In less than five minutes, the bed was made.

Seeing the pristine white silk sheets on the bed, Henry Lancaster’s mood improved slightly.

Sitting in a chair, he said to Evan Hollis, "Dr. Hollis, I did some research on you before I came. You were born abroad, you don’t have Celestria citizenship... who gave you your name?"

Evan Hollis chuckled. "Not only do I not have Celestria citizenship, I don’t have parents either. An elder gave me my name."

Henry Lancaster’s questions came one after another. "Really? No parents? If you have no parents, how could you afford medical school? Where did the money come from? You didn’t steal it or something, did you?"

Every question was laced with disrespect.

"President Lancaster," Rory Linden spoke up first. "We’ve made your bed for you. We have other work to do, so if there’s nothing else, we’ll be leaving."

Henry Lancaster’s attitude toward Evan Hollis...

...was so much like how Miles Harrison used to treat her.

So high and mighty.

And utterly inconsiderate.

Henry Lancaster stretched. "Alright, you can go. I’m tired from the several-hour car ride anyway. I need to rest for a bit."

Rory Linden didn’t bother with him and left with Evan Hollis.

Once they were out of the guesthouse...

...Rory Linden couldn’t help but complain, "These rich young masters are all the same. They never treat ordinary people like human beings, as if everyone is just supposed to serve them."

’Just like Miles Harrison.’

For so many years, she had done so much for him.

She had meticulously cared for the young master’s daily life.

She felt the Harrington Family had raised her and was willing to do it.

But that young master couldn’t even bring himself to see her as an equal.

"Dr. Linden."

Evan Hollis quickened his pace.

He first hid his hands behind his back, and when he reached Rory Linden, he held them out in front of her.

In his hands were two lollipops and a few pieces of chocolate.

"Which one do you want? Choose!"

As Evan Hollis spoke, he had a smile on his face, his dimples especially prominent.

Rory Linden knew where the candy came from.

Over the past few days of providing medical care in the countryside, they would occasionally see some of the left-behind children.

The kids had a natural fear of seeing the doctor, so they kept candy in their pockets to coax them.

However, Evan Hollis’s friendly, smiling face was even more effective than candy.

"I’ll have... this one."

Rory Linden chose a cola-flavored lollipop.

After Rory Linden took the candy...

...Evan Hollis said, "Now that you’ve had some candy, don’t be upset about what just happened. I think what Mr. Lancaster questioned made sense. Our tuition is expensive, so most people take out loans. It’s very normal."

Rory Linden looked at Evan Hollis and felt more and more that it was probably because of their similar experiences.

Their personalities were quite similar too.

Very optimistic.

Then again, if they weren’t optimistic, it would have been hard to survive and stay strong until today.

"Okay."

Rory Linden unwrapped the lollipop and popped it into her mouth.

The sweet taste of cola spread through her mouth.

She looked at Evan Hollis beside her and asked, "Is the name on your passport just the pinyin for He Yan?"

"It wasn’t originally. At the time, I really wanted to be adopted by this one woman, so I changed my last name to be the same as her family’s..."

Evan Hollis also unwrapped a lollipop and put it in his mouth, trying his best to smile as he said, "Even though she didn’t adopt me in the end, at least I got a Celestria name out of it."

Rory Linden guessed that he was probably sad on the inside.

She nodded seriously and affirmed, "Evan Hollis is a nice name."

"Thanks."

Evan Hollis curved his lips.

It was a shallow smile, and his dimples didn’t even appear.

"Mister, Miss! Mister, Miss!..."

The two of them were still standing there talking when a child’s voice called out from a distance.

Rory Linden looked in the direction of the voice.

A little girl was running toward them from far away, not stopping until she was right beside them.

Seeing that the two had stopped, she struggled to catch her breath before finally managing to say, "Mister, Miss... you... you have to save... save my sister."
