Chapter 128: Chapter 128: "Evan Hollis? What about him? Seducing my sister-in-law?

The lights in the dorm room were off.

Rory Linden’s bed was in the back corner of the room.

She was sitting up against the headboard, her long, half-dry hair falling naturally around her.

She found the video labeled [4/4] in her spam folder.

And played it.

The phone screen quickly went dark.

Because she was wearing headphones, the video’s background audio sounded incredibly clear.

There was the rustling of wind through leaves and the agonized groans of different people.

Rory Linden sat on her bed, her eyes glued to the screen.

As the camera panned slowly, the entire room was finally revealed.

Rory Linden couldn’t help but gasp.

Locked in the pitch-black room were three men. Judging by their skin tone, they appeared to be white or perhaps East Asian.

Without exception, all three were covered in wounds from head to toe.

The person holding the camera walked forward step by step, stopping beside one of the men.

The camera panned down, focusing on the man’s face.

Only then did Rory Linden recognize him as an Asian man.

One of his eyes was swollen shut.

The man begged for mercy, "Save me, save me, save me, Rex. I’m sorry, I’m sorry."

As the man spoke, Rory Linden noticed that two of his teeth were missing.

The camera moved down little by little.

It scanned over the man’s entire body.

His whole body was covered in slashes from a sharp object, the blood already congealed.

Beside him was a food bowl. The contents were black and moldy, their original form unrecognizable.

This video was exceptionally long.

It captured all three men in detail.

One white man, two Asian men.

Based on their appearance, all three seemed to be in their late teens.

One of the Asian men was the most severely injured; he didn’t react at all, even when the person filming walked up to him.

The white man was also pleading for help, while still managing to curse Sean Harrison.

At this point, Rory Linden had already figured out that the person filming wasn’t Sean Harrison.

But all of this...

This was definitely Sean Harrison’s "work."

As a doctor, Rory Linden was desensitized to blood and wounds.

Even so, she still felt sick watching what was happening in the video.

A doctor’s job is to save people.

But what Sean Harrison was doing to these men...

...was pure torture.

Rory Linden didn’t dare to guess when these videos were filmed, nor did she dare to guess the circumstances under which Sean Harrison had done this.

It was as if...

no matter the reason, she found it hard to accept.

She could accept that the man she slept beside had flaws, but it seemed she couldn’t accept that he had such a cruel and merciless side...

-

After dropping Rory Linden off, Sean Harrison started walking back.

His decision to come see Rory Linden had indeed been a spur-of-the-moment one.

The position as a foundation director was also something he had arranged for himself in the shortest possible time.

It was just to give himself a more legitimate reason to be here.

On his way back, he saw someone sitting on the roadside in the distance, smoking.

The village’s nighttime lighting wasn’t very good.

He couldn’t make out who the man was, only the glowing and fading ember of a cigarette.

This wasn’t one of the village’s main roads.

At this hour...

Sean Harrison had a faint feeling the man was waiting for him.

He took two more steps forward before realizing the person sitting there smoking was actually Evan Hollis.

The man had naturally curly hair.

Perhaps because he’d just showered, his hair looked especially fluffy in the shadows, the curves of his curls more pronounced.

Evan Hollis took another drag from his cigarette, standing up only when he saw Sean Harrison approach.

"Mr. Harrison, what a coincidence." Evan Hollis glanced around. "A big shot like you, walking alone at night? Aren’t you afraid of being kidnapped?"

Evan Hollis’s tone was entirely joking.

Whether it was the dim light or his thick, curly hair, he didn’t seem friendly as he stood there.

The few times Sean Harrison had seen Evan Hollis before, he had been with Rory Linden.

This was the first time he was meeting him alone.

Even so, his impression of him wasn’t good.

Sean Harrison raised an eyebrow slightly and asked directly, "What, are you thinking of kidnapping me?"

"Me? I’m just an anesthesiologist. I don’t have that kind of ability."

Evan Hollis chuckled, the dimples at the corners of his mouth particularly noticeable.

He took another drag from his cigarette as he spoke.

The action seemed at odds with his overall demeanor.

Sean Harrison continued walking toward the house where he was staying.

After a few steps, he glanced back and saw Evan Hollis standing in the middle of the road in the distance.

The streetlight was dim.

But the silhouette of the man’s curly hair was remarkably clear.

Sean Harrison suddenly recalled the night he was injured several months ago.

The men who tried to kidnap him had been caught. They said someone had paid them for the job.

At the time, all the leads had gone cold.

The only suspicious detail was a curly-haired man who had been standing in a corner, smoking, calmly watching the entire incident before turning to leave.

Sean Harrison quickened his pace toward his lodgings.

Only after getting inside did he call Henry Lancaster.

His first words were, "Run a background check on a doctor from Elysian Hospital named Evan Hollis."

"Evan Hollis? What about him? Did he try to seduce my sister-in-law?"

Henry Lancaster always had a habit of speaking his mind when he joked.

Sean Harrison said, "No. That curly-haired man from last time—see if it was him."

Henry Lancaster’s tone grew serious as well. "That guy? Okay, I’ll have someone look into it. I’ll let you know as soon as I have news."

「The next morning.」

The medical outreach event proceeded as usual.

Rory Linden had just sat down.

"Dr. Linden!" Evan Hollis walked over with a middle-aged woman. "Could you please take a look at this auntie? She says her chest hurts when she presses on it."

"Okay."

As Rory Linden was leading the woman inside, she saw the team leader approaching in the distance with Sean Harrison.

She subconsciously glanced in the man’s direction.

Sean Harrison seemed to hear something and looked over as well.

However, his gaze didn’t linger on her, but instead landed on Evan Hollis.

The autumn sun was bright.

When the man looked at Evan Hollis, his ink-black eyes were like a deep pool, cold and devoid of any discernible emotion.

She had seen this expression on him before.

The day he saw Nadia Willow at the studio.

He’d had the exact same look.

Rory Linden froze for a moment, then quickly called out to Evan Hollis, who was about to leave.

When he turned back to look at her, she said, "Stand by the door and keep watch for me. Don’t let anyone else in, and don’t leave. If you have to go, you have to tell me first."

She instructed him earnestly.

Evan Hollis was always easygoing. He smiled and gave a mock salute. "OK, leave it to me. I guarantee I won’t move an inch."

Only then did Rory Linden enter the room with peace of mind.

By the time she finished the examination and came out, the team leader and Sean Harrison were nowhere to be seen.

It was only at lunch that she heard the team leader mention that Sean Harrison had already left, but the foundation would be sending another director in a few days.

Rory Linden originally thought the matter was over.

「Three days later.」

As the medical team was taking a bus to the next village,

the team leader introduced the new foundation director to everyone—

Henry Lancaster.
