Live Strong in the Wilderness-Chapter 345: Taste of Home
Only after both giant lizards were dead did everyone breathe a sigh of relief.
In less than five minutes, everyone looked as if they had been pulled from the water.
Because they had used all their strength, not leaving a bit of energy behind.
After a few minutes of rest, everyone had the presence of mind to clean up the battlefield.
Xu Yi first discovered a star chart on one of the corpses and quickly went over to pick it up.
Upon inspection, Xu Yi found some military food rations, sleeping bags, and several boxes of bullets inside.
"Xu Yi, there’s a rifle here," Lu Ke shouted excitedly after picking up the gun.
"There’s a crossbow here too," Cheng Jie also made a discovery.
"There’s a machete here and some crossbow arrows," Zhou Chun also picked up some items.
"This corpse’s star chart is missing, it must have been taken by their own people," Liu Li said after checking the corpse. After all, there were four other people who gave up, so there was a chance the star chart was taken.
As for weapons, they had no need to take them away.
When they return, they can naturally resupply.
However, Liu Li felt that those people might not have the courage to face the challenge again.
Zhou Mo circled around but only found a few crossbow arrows.
"Does anyone know how to use a gun?" Xu Yi asked after putting the star chart on his other wrist.
Everyone shook their heads, as none of them had any training.
"I’ve shot targets before, so give me the rifle. The crossbow goes to Cheng Jie, and the short crossbow goes to Liu Li," Xu Yi made a quick arrangement.
Lu Ke happily handed the rifle over to Xu Yi, but was also surprised that Xu Yi had shot at targets before.
Xu Yi pulled back the gun’s bolt, ejecting the bullet.
During military training on Earth, he indeed had shot at targets, but his marksmanship was terrible.
"Strangely, firearms seem to have no effect on the giant lizards," Xu Yi glanced at the giant lizard’s corpse, not seeing any bullet wounds.
In their understanding, guns were already extremely powerful weapons.
More powerful than a gun were grenades, single-use rocket launchers, and large weapons like artillery shells.
Earlier, they had heard the sound of intense gunfire, which must have been aimed at the giant lizards, but there were no wounds, which was very odd.
Unfortunately, both giant lizards were dead, so Xu Yi couldn’t test whether bullets were indeed ineffective against them.
"Rest for ten minutes, then we leave this place," Xu Yi said, flipping the rifle’s safety on, removing the magazine, and slinging the rifle over his shoulder.
The area was filled with a bloody scent, likely to attract other predators, so leaving early was a good idea.
While loading bullets into a clip, Xu Yi kept a lookout around.
Once the bullets were loaded, Xu Yi reinserted the magazine. Unfortunately, there were no other magazines to be found.
Everyone took a short break, and in less than ten minutes, they set off again. Before leaving, Xu Yi removed the shoes and pants from the two corpses, as they were also important resources.
After walking for less than half an hour, night fell.
After nightfall, they continued on, stopping to rest around 11 o’clock.
"Xu Yi, do you think it won’t snow tonight? We haven’t seen any stars for hours." Lu Ke looked up at the sky, feeling tonight was especially cold.
"If it does, the tent in this star chart will be useful," Xu Yi replied calmly. If it snows, most people would be happy.
After all, it would mean a supply of water.
"There’s even a tent. What other goodies are there?" Lu Ke asked curiously, not knowing what was in the star chart Xu Yi had picked up.
"One box of single-person dry rations, a sleeping bag, and several boxes of bullets," Xu Yi replied, explaining that’s all there was in the star chart.
"What kind of rations are they? Let’s take a look. I haven’t had military food before," Lu Ke said, looking at Xu Yi with eager anticipation.
Xu Yi smiled slightly, having expected this, then pulled out a carton and handed it to Lu Ke.
"All yours, little foodie," Xu Yi said with a smile. They had a large amount of jerky that could last over a month, so it was no problem giving Lu Ke the military food.
Besides, Lu Ke wasn’t selfish and would definitely share.
Lu Ke happily took the box, opened it, and dumped out the contents for a look.
"Wow, Yangzhou Fried Rice Meal!"
"Curry Beef Rice Meal!"
"Diced Chicken Fried Rice Meal!"
"Braised Pork Fried Rice Meal!"
"Snow Cabbage Pork Dice Fried Rice Meal!"
"Xu Yi, we hit the jackpot! So many delicious things," Lu Ke exclaimed, astounded by the variety, marveling at how blessed soldiers are these days.
"I have two boxes as well," Liu Li shared, presenting two boxes of single-use self-heating rations to Lu Ke. She and Cheng Jie had excellent food at the eliminated contestants’ camp and weren’t particularly interested in the military rations.
But Xu Yi and Lu Ke were different; they’d been on this planet for over a hundred days without tasting rice.
"I have a box too," Cheng Jie said, somewhat apologetically, realizing she hadn’t anticipated the significance of these rations to Xu Yi and his group.
There’s no taste like that of home—this was it!
Xu Yi first assumed these were dry, compact rations, but hearing Lu Ke, he couldn’t help swallowing a little.
"I don’t have space, Xu Yi, you pack them," Lu Ke said, taking a Yangzhou Fried Rice and turning to Xu Yi, asking, "Xu Yi, what do you want to eat?"
"I’ll have a Braised Pork Fried Rice!" Xu Yi replied, feeling saliva quickly building in his mouth.
"And you, Old Zhou?" Lu Ke asked, knowing Zhou Chun must also be hungry.
"I’ll also have a Braised Pork," Zhou Chun grinned, expressing his surprise and delight at being able to eat rice, something he hadn’t dared to dream of so far.
"Lu Jie, I’ll take the Curry Beef," Zhou Mo said proactively.
"Cheng Jie, Liu Jie, how about you?" Lu Ke asked while tearing open the packaging. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
"No need, we’re not hungry, and we frequently have these at the camp. Honestly, we should’ve taken them out earlier," Cheng Jie said with a guilty look.
"Oh, don’t say that. You guys just got here and faced danger; who would think of eating at a time like that?" Xu Yi replied, busying himself with the self-heating meals.
A few minutes later, Xu Yi and Lu Ke were eating and shedding tears.
It was simply too delicious. They hadn’t eaten a single bite of rice for over a hundred days, and now they were savoring such delicious military food.
Not long after they finished eating, danger arrived.
Xu Yi was the first to notice and fired a few shots before everyone quickly grabbed their weapons.
