Chapter 80: Chapter 80: He Didn’t Get Jealous

The closer people are, the better they know where to stab each other for maximum pain.

Stella Grant watched the two with envy of their sibling bond, while once again marveling that a family could produce two such different personalities.

Stella didn’t notice how the two eventually called a truce.

Anyway, by the time she changed into loungewear and came out of the bedroom, the two had each claimed an end of the sofa, left and right, not speaking to each other.

Seeing this, Stella smiled and asked Sue Woods, "Head Chef Woods, what’s for dinner tonight?"

Sue had never been called ’Head Chef’ in her life, and with vigorous enthusiasm, she got up, rolled up her sleeves, and headed to the kitchen, "A feast. I’ll start preparing, the groceries will arrive soon."

Seeing Sue head to the kitchen, Ray Woods leaned back on the sofa provocatively, "You can cook?"

Sue, still not over her anger, turned her head and said indignantly, "If you have the guts, don’t eat tonight."

Sue was not one for cooking at all. Although she boasted, Stella couldn’t really let her go into the kitchen alone.

But to save face for her, Stella didn’t say this directly and instead followed under the guise of being her assistant.

Avoiding Ray, Sue started preparing scallions and garlic for stir-frying, and quietly asked Stella, "How’s Auntie?"

Stella picked up a head of garlic and began peeling, replying softly, "She’s doing well, her condition is stable for now."

Sue huffed, "My boss just refuses to grant me leave, otherwise I would’ve gone to be with you."

Stella smiled, "I know, I could tell when you called last week."

Seeing the smile on Stella’s face, Sue felt uneasy. After a few seconds of pause, she asked again, "Have you found a suitable kidney donor?"

Stella didn’t hide it, telling the truth, "We found one."

She added, "It was Silas Sutton who helped."

Mentioning Silas, Sue was at a loss for words for a moment.

After a while, Sue moved closer to Stella, "Stella, I always feel like Silas Sutton has... feelings for you."

Stella lowered her eyes, pausing slightly in her garlic peeling.

Some things, even if others don’t say it, those involved are aware.

We’re all adults here: no man is inexplicably kind and helpful to a woman without reason.

It can’t be said for certain it’s love; at the very least, it’s admiration, even if that admiration is just... physical.

Stella intended to act oblivious, but faced with Sue’s question, she couldn’t keep silent and simply said, "I know."

Sue, "Then what do you think?"

Stella knitted her brows slightly, uttering something even she couldn’t believe, "I have no thoughts about it. We’ve agreed that from now on, we’re just colleagues. I joined the Sutton Group to work well and repay the favor."

Sue knew very well how much that statement lacked honesty.

A company like Sutton Group has no shortage of talent, so why go to such lengths for a mere project manager?

But Sue also understood Stella’s current predicament; she had no other choice.

Sue pressed her lips together, not willing to expose her, "Mm."

Perhaps the topic was too sensitive, the two fell into a long silence until the doorbell rang, breaking the tension with the delivery of groceries.

Stella had learned from experience, Sue really wasn’t cut out for cooking, as even a simple tomato and scrambled egg dish nearly turned the kitchen into a disaster zone.

Oil in the pan, she accidentally added water, causing a splattering frenzy.

Trying to keep her distance while prodding with the spatula, she almost knocked the pan onto the floor.

Watching from the side, Stella’s heart was in her mouth.

"How about I help you?" Stella cautiously offered to Sue.

Sue glanced at her sideways and, predictably, refused, "No need, I can do it. I might be bad at other dishes, but tomato and scrambled eggs, no problem."

Stella looked skeptical, "Are you sure?"

Sue reassured, "Of course, I’m sure, don’t worry."

No sooner had Sue reassured her, the frying pan on the gas stove clattered ’bang’ to the floor.

After that, the kitchen fell into a long silence.

After a while, Stella looked at the mess on the floor and took a deep breath, "Let me handle it."

Sue awkwardly handed over the spatula, "You, you do it."

When Sue dejectedly exited the kitchen, Ray was on the sofa laughing uncontrollably.

Sue glared at him angrily, muttering through gritted teeth, "I curse you to be single forever."

Ray brushed it off, "No problem, I’ve always been part of the no-marriage crew."

In the end, Stella took charge of the dinner.

Four dishes and one soup were served. Ray stepped forward, took a snapshot with his phone, and posted it on social media with the caption: Women come with different grades.

Ray’s original post was a dig at Sue.

But in the eyes of interested parties, it was flaunting a relationship.

For instance, to someone like Silas Sutton.

Since he took over Forrest Keller’s WeChat account, he had inherited all of Forrest’s friends.

Although Forrest had told everyone he switched to a new WeChat work account, people assumed he just turned the old account into a personal one, so no one paid much attention and didn’t delete him as a friend.

Sitting in the backseat of the car, Silas originally intended to send Stella a message posing as Forrest, but somehow his fingers slipped to open the social feed.

Seeing Ray’s post there, he leaned back, pressed his tongue against his molars, narrowed his long eyes, and gave it a like.
