Legendary Oops System-Chapter 15: Close to Death
The blade pierced toward Nova’s head with unstoppable force, her eyes widening in horror at the realization:
Her skull wasn’t thick enough to block the blow.
It would be pierced through, and her brain would be violently blown to a pulp.
The horror of death before her led to a freeze-up, yet at the last moment, she watched as the boy suddenly grabbed the blade and slashed it to his side instead.
BOOOM!
A leg covered in astral light slammed straight into the side of his face, blocked by the red blade, but it didn’t hold for even 2 seconds before it was completely crushed, and the kick smashed into his head.
BAANG!
BAANG!
BAANG!
Three trees in his path were blown to smithereens as he tumbled through the air before rolling across the ground, ultimately slamming into a larger tree that stopped him.
THUMP!
A heavy thumping sound echoed as White landed on both feet.
Turning away from the boy, he stared at Nova, his hands reaching for the invisible blade stuck in her hands and snapping them out.
"You okay?"
He asked.
"Watch out!"
She exclaimed, feeling the rustle in the air, but then White’s hands snatched to the side without looking, seemingly clasping something in his palms.
Red blood quickly rained down to the ground, but in the next moment.
CRUSH!
The red blade was crushed in his palms, dispersing into motes of energy.
"You..." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
She sat there, eyes widened, but noticing White’s eyes remaining on her, with his questioning gaze.
"I...I’ll heal soon."
She said, raising her hands and rubbing the bloody holes on her palms.
It stung, but...she wasn’t a stranger to pain.
"Well, well, well...who could have expected it?"
White turned to the side, watching the crimson-haired young man exit from the forest, dusting himself off from the branches and leaves around him.
By the corner of his lips, there was a slight cut, the only sign of White’s sneak attack.
"I found not just one but 2 Limitless Outcast...or could it be that unlike her, you’re a true Limitless Boy?"
He asked with interest, but looking at White’s face, his grin paused.
The young man had a look of pity in his eyes.
He expected hate or anger, since he had just hurt his friend, but none of that emotion was seen.
Just pity.
"Don’t look at me like that..."
He growled, stretching his hands forward, but White responded even faster, slapping his hands to the side.
A cut was made on a tree 3 meters away, as it tumbled down to the ground.
"You’re...Pathetic."
White finally said, and he grinned.
"Blocked two of my attacks, and now you think you can take me on. Now, I’m weak, huh?"
"No. You’re not weak."
White responded.
His tone was serious, and he could sense.
"You’re pathetic, as you no longer have your own identity."
"Huh?"
"You consider yourself a Malevolent Boy, and the sad thing is, you think and expect everyone else to be like you."
"Your clan’s identity has robbed you of your own self and reason."
"So, even though you’re strong...you’re equally pathetic."
White completed, and in that moment, he turned his back, picking up Nova from the ground.
"She’s Nova, and I’m White. We’re not Limitless Boy, or Girls."
He said, taking a step forward, but then he paused and turned back slightly.
The boy had both of his hands outstretched, all around him, the air quivering.
White could easily sense about a dozen blades surrounding his figure waiting to be unleashed, but instead, he looked into the boy’s crimson eyes, brimming with anger, and he asked.
"I wonder if you still remember your name."
The question sent him reeling back two steps as if he had just been hit by a truck.
He crouched down, hands holding his head tightly, but in the next moment, froze, and snapped forward.
All he found was the breeze rustling...they were already gone.
"I Know My Name."
He said through clenched teeth, fists folding so hard they drew blood.
The air around him quivered intensely, crimson red blades dripping with blood, reappearing out of the space behind him and painting the entirety of the area around him in blood.
"I am Rukun Malevolent!"
_______
CRACKLE
The sound of fire crackling echoed quietly, as red sparks danced in the air.
Over it, stuck on a stick, were the legs of a massive beast, quietly cooking.
If one peered closely, one would see the sign of blade slices on the beast as if a part of it had been sliced.
Two rocks were placed around the fire, exactly opposite each other, and on it sat none other than Nova and White, the latter reclining on the rock instead of sitting, a bone in his hands which he used to floss his teeth, satisfaction written all over his face.
White opened one eye, looking forward.
There, he found Nova, hands hugging her frame as she looked blankly at the fire.
By her side was a half-eaten meat placed on a leaf. With how cold the forest is, it should have no doubt gone cold by now.
He rose from his seat, tearing a bit of the steaming beast and walking towards her.
She saw his outstretched hands with the meat, but quietly shook her head.
"You’ll need to eat if you want to heal."
He said, leading to her unfolding her hand.
The holes in her palms were already gone, though there were scars of it still lingering at the center of her palms.
"I’ve healed, besides...the meat has a bad taste. There’s no seasoning or anything. It’s not even washed."
She added, and White grinned.
"You know, I learned there must be a bad for the good to be truly good."
"If you get stuck eating beast meat for three days, when you finally get a good food after you pass the tests and are allowed into Xtremecybers, the sensation will be heavenly."
He joked, but he noticed her coiling back into her knees.
He paused, his smile fading, and sat down on the ground by her side.
"Can’t get it off your mind?"
He asked in a quieter tone, as she remained staring blankly at the fire.
"I almost died." She answered.
"But you didn’t."
White responded, and she turned to look at him before whispering,
"That’s not comforting."
He felt her stare and turned to her, then, looking right into her eyes, asked a question that sent a ripple through her heart.
"Is..."
