Elias was surrounded by hundreds of blood-red screens that had started glitching, just like the time he was going through his evolution. But this time, all of them displayed only a single message.

............

Warning! Mental Defences are being dismantled!

............

The cracks in the mirror started to grow until the entire surface was covered. Soon, the mirror shattered into thousands of pieces, and Elias was able to step out. But the process of dismantling didn’t stop with the mirror.

The cracks that had started on the mirror had begun spreading outward, encompassing the realm where his consciousness resided. The entire realm of consciousness was breaking apart.

Elias watched the cracks in his reality, and soon those cracks reached his own consciousness as well, as he watched his own skin start to develop cracks.

The extraction of the mental realm was affecting his own mind, trying to dismantle it now that all protections were gone.

"That’s enough! Stop the extraction!" Elias exclaimed, as the cracks rapidly spread across his body like a venomous snake coiling around him.

............

Error! Extraction cannot be stopped before completion.

............

The error only intensified the dismantling, and its speed increased. Soon, his entire body was covered in these cracks, which were trying to dismantle his consciousness from within.

Elias looked at his reflection in the broken pieces of the mirror, which revealed his face, now covered in thousands of cracks, as if he were a statue being destroyed by the passage of time.

He knew that extraction held a lot of risks, especially when he was using it on himself. He had taken a gamble, and he could see that he had lost.

His own abilities were destroying him, and the only silver lining was that he wasn’t going to spend an eternity as a prisoner in the mirror.

He took a deep breath and reached out his hand, which was covered in cracks. He picked up one of the glass pieces, bringing it closer.

"Should I be sad that I am dying? Or should I be happy that a constellation is returning to that world in my place?" he wondered, looking into the shard of the mirror, as a small crack formed in the middle of his eye as well.

"He might be able to bring more change than I ever could," he thought, feeling his head grow heavy. His thoughts had slowed, and he couldn’t think clearly.

His consciousness grew so weak that he couldn’t even remain standing. He fell, still holding the mirror shard, as the entire realm around him shattered completely.

He watched weakly, with blurry vision, as everything started turning dark. He was alone in this place, with only the fragments of the mirror that had once trapped him.

..............

Warning! Mental degradation has reached a dangerous threshold. Please grant permission to initiate Emergency Protocols.

..............

Elias could see that a new screen had appeared before him. However, he couldn’t see what was written on it. His eyes slowly closed, as he failed to grant any permission.

..............

Permission has not been received. Please grant permission for emergency protocols!

..............

There was absolute silence, as a blood-red screen kept flickering before Elias, but to no avail. The boy did not see or utter anything.

..............

Permission has not been received. It is judged that the host is not in a state to consider emergency protocols. After analyzing the current status, Emergency Protocols are being forcefully initiated.

..............

"That was delicious." Astralious had finished devouring the fable of Harbinger. He stood up and lazily stretched his arms.

He looked in the direction of the Forest of Fables, where the exit from this place was hidden in plain sight. However, he could also sense that there were a few dangerous beings there. Now wasn’t the right time for him to go there.

"I should bring some gifts for them while I’m at it," he mumbled, before turning toward the Central Region of the Land of Fables.

He started walking towards the Central Region of the Land of Fables, where the domains of stronger fables were. He had already planned the chaos he was going to cause in the Land of Fables, to create an exit for himself.

"If I can find some good followers amongst them, it would be even better. But I should keep my expectations low." He shook his head lightly.

"Hmm?" He had only taken a few steps when he felt a sharp pain in his head. The pain was enough to make an ordinary person go crazy, but as a constellation, he only frowned, wondering what that was about.

His expressions grew worse the next second, when he saw cracks starting to develop all around him. However, these cracks weren’t appearing in reality but only in his sight.

"What did he do?!" he suddenly exclaimed, realizing that the problem isn’t in reality, but with his mind. As he hadn’t taken over Elias’ body after destroying his consciousness through corruption, there were many variables that were left behind.

He hadn’t thought that those variables could create any problems for him since he had trapped that variable while taking control of this body. But something had seriously gone wrong.

Within seconds, his condition grew even worse and he wasn’t even able to see anything. He thought about going back to check, but before he could even make a decision, he felt the same frightening force appear that had erased his corruption.

His consciousness was forcefully pulled from within the body, and Elias’s body fell on the ground with a thud. Lying on the ground, he looked no different from a dead person. The only good sign was that his heart was still beating, albeit extremely slowly.

Even as a few hours passed, Elias remained unmoving. Only his weak breathing escaped his mouth, making some flecks of dust on the ground fly.

The sound of footsteps appeared behind Elias, and the gentle winds in the surroundings came to a sudden halt. The footsteps stopped right next to Elias.

The owner of those footsteps grabbed Elias, and placed him on their shoulders, before walking away.
