Wuxi did not waste anymore time around them. He left, promising that he would call Mei Mei later and they could continue catching up.

"I thought he would never leave." Jingzhe mumbled.

Mei Mei pinched his cheek. "You little vixen, why are you jealous of everything?"

"Because you are mine." He replied boldly. "I am jealous of the leggings you are wearing. I am jealous of your bra, I am jealous of the air around you. I am jealous of the sneakers on your feet. I am even jealous of the sweat on your body."

She pinched his right side ear next. "Feng Jingzhe, you have become so comfortable that you can boldly say nonsense out in the open."

One of the mothers stepped in front of them, frown lines deep on her forehead. "You two, can you stop doing this in front of us."

Mei Mei smiled apologetically. "Sorry, my kid yaps nonsense sometimes."

The woman looked at the so called kid. He was an adult!

Mei Mei blew her whistle. Black Guard and General Big Yellow came running. She took one leash and Jingzhe too another. They turned and started walking back home together.

The woman shook her head as she watched them leave. "These young couples are very ridiculous. How can she call her grown boyfriend a kid?" As she turned around, she realized who the couple was and she turned back with wide eyes. "How did I not realize it was them?" she asked herself.

She ran to the other mothers on the playground to share with them the things she had heard the royal advisor saying.

"How did you show up at the playground just in time to....." She paused. "What were you doing at the playground?"

Jingzhe replied with a shrug, "It was a coincidence."

"Really?" She was skeptical. "You showed up right after he confessed his feelings to me."

"Purely a coincidence." Jingzhe insisted.

He would not admit that he had received a message which contained a picture of her and Wuxi along with a copy of a love letter he once wrote her but never dared to add his name to it.

He would not admit that he had dropped his phone and keys at the entrance of the house and ran like crazy because he was afraid that her heart would be gone by the time he arrived.

He did not want to give her a chance to re-think their relationship.

"So, when were you going to tell me that someone recently proposed marriage to you?" She asked him.

He was lost. Who had proposed to him? "Mei Mei, is there another Jingzhe in your life? Did this happen in your dreams? Even if it did, I am sure that I said no unless you are the one that proposed."

"Pang Lucy." She mentioned.

Jingzhe made a shuddering sound. "The only time I spoke to that woman was when my mother introduced us. The only thing I said to her was "hello." If anyone is claiming that they have seen me talking to her elsewhere, it is a lie. She did show up at the cake factory but I did not talk to her."

Mei Mei fell silent.

Jingzhe counted the steps, waiting for her to respond. Her silence made him anxious so he exploded and said, "Okay, her crazy mother did make a suggestion like that but my mother turned her down immediately. I would never marry my cousin. I don’t want to have babies with eight toes!"

She snorted.

Jingzhe’s voice became gentler. "Don’t worry. The only woman in the world that I want to marry is you. Not that my desire should put you on pressure. I will not propose until you are ready."

"Do you believe me now?" He asked her.

She nodded. "A Zhe, I never doubted you in the first place, I was just a little disappointed that I did not hear about this from you directly. Lucy is your cousin, blood or not. Of course, there is no way you would be involved with her romantically. You are not stupid."

He nodded. "I am a genius."

"That is not the stupid I meant." She laughed. "I meant morality kind of stupid."

"I know that and I am still a genius." He shrugged and smirked.

She rolled her eyes and they slowly continued to walk, side by side. Mei Mei wondered how her mother known the intentions of Lucy and her mother immediately after meeting them. Had she already dug into Madam Feng’s background?

But even if she had, there was no way she would have discovered their plan. It was not the kind of thing one added to their daily calendar.

Anyway, no matter how her mother had come across the information, what the mother and daughter sought was very clear. They were looking for a purse. Pang Lucy would not give up easily.

Jingzhe noticed the frown on her face and he reached for her hand, tugging on it. "What are you thinking about?"

Mei Mei tilted her head his way and looked at him for a while. Then she smiled and said, "I am thinking that I am going to miss you when I go to Australia. We have never been apart for longer than a day since we started living together and dating."

Jingzhe smiled sadly when he heard this. He was also miserable when it came to her vacation with her family. Much as he wanted to go with her, he had work to do. Also, he wanted her to have memories that were just hers. He could not follow her everywhere all the time. They were adults and each had a life before they came together.

He did plan to show up for her race and then he would spend the last two days of her vacation with her and Mingzhu. Then, they could return to the empire and prepared mentally for Mo Liang’s trial.

This plan, he did not intend to share with her just yet. He wanted it to be a surprise.

She held his hand tighter, smiling at him brightly. "I would not be surprised if you did something like that male vixen. Mingzhu and I will be thinking about you everyday. We are family. You have to keep in touch with your wife and daughter everyday, okay?"
