Chapter 370: Mei Mei learns the reason.

Mei Mei’s life had settled into a new routine. During the day, she was either at work or training. Mostly, she was training and that was where she was when she first saw the video of Lucy trying to reach around assistant Xu to hug Jingzhe.

She was about to have lunch by the pond in the royal courts stables with Jingzhe. Mingzhu and her father had delivered that lunch. They had brought a share for Thunder Muyang too and the horse was already feasting, unlike her who was frowning.

"Here." Her father handed her a small bowl with shrimp dumplings.

"Thank you." She answered absentmindedly, frowning as she placed the bowl down on the picnic blanket.

Muyang snatched the phone from her hands. "Eat Mei Mei, you have two more hours of training left for the day and you cannot do it on an empty stomach."

She picked up a pair of chopsticks and the bowl, but still didn’t eat. Her eyes traced the surroundings for Mingzhu and she saw her daughter in the distance, feeding the ducks in the pond.

Two bodyguards were keeping an eye on her, making sure that she did not fall into the pool or harm herself.

Muyang walked behind her and hit her gently on the head with the chop stick.

Mei Mei raised her head, looked at him and rolled her eyes. "I am not six dad."

As he moved away from her and sat down on the bench next to the blanket he said to her, "You may not be six but you are distracted. My eyes did not linger for long on your phone but I saw the image of your little boyfriend." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

Again. she rolled her eyes. "He is not little."

Muyang shrugged. "Rose says it a lot so I guess everyone is adopting it naturally. What I don’t know is what is distracting you?"

"Nothing, just his annoying cousin." She bit a dumpling, too distracted to savor the crispiness. "She went to the cake factory to find him and made a scene. Some idle people are already speculating on the nature of their relationship online."

Muyang could see why she was distracted. "Look, Jingzhe is a trustworthy young man and he will not marry that woman."

Mei Mei’s head turned so fast that she twisted it in the wrong way and winced.

"Are you fine?" Muyang asked her.

She nodded but winced again.

Muyang called for the doctor immediately.

Meanwhile, Mei Mei picked up the dumplings which had fallen to the ground, frowning deeply with eyes narrowed. Why hadn’t Jingzhe told her that his cousin wanted to marry him? Was that why her mother had said that Pang Lucy and her mother had come looking for money and more?

"Dad, where did you hear about this from?" She asked as he placed a cold compress on her neck which he had placed in the cooler that held the drinks.

"From your mother, who else?" He answered. "She heard it from the Empress Mother who heard it from your mother-in-law. Apparently, those women are now broke.

The husband of Madam Feng’s sister found a younger mistress who introduced him to a life of gambling and they lost all of their money.

The two of them never worked. The mother was a housewife who lived in luxury with two maids.

The daughter went to art school but her talent was mediocre. She dropped out and tried to become a model but the standards of the modelling industry have become stricter in the last decade. She was neither outstandingly beautiful nor eccentric looking and she did not have a wow factor.

So, she had been sleeping at home and going to night clubs.

If Madame Feng gives them some of her recipes, I am sure that they will sell them. Even if they open up bakeries, they will hire other people to do the baking, sit back and collect the money."

Mei Mei snorted. "It takes capital to open a business. Not only would Madame Feng have to give them capital but she will also have to give them recipes and support them with other resources. Neither one of them has any training in business. I doubt they will last a year on the job if their plan is to sit back and collect money."

Muyang agreed. Huaqi’s cheesecake was famous but the business did not thrive and grow in cheese cake alone. They had to come up with new recipes every month.

They had to guard their recipes closely because others were always trying to steal or copy from them. They also mass produced other packaged snacks in addition to their cheese cakes and exported fifty percent of them.

Huaqi baked wedding cakes for those with big budgets. Three times a year, lucky winners would get to have Huaqi provide them with a free wedding cake.

They attended fairs, had shops in prime spots in every city and owned other shops which they leased to restaurant owners in the empire.

Another secret of their success was their recipes for other snacks which were not cake related. These things were sold for cash and royalties in other companies.

Outsiders did not know just how much went into Huaqi to make it the billion empire they now knew it to be.

Maybe those women had figured this out and considered that the best way for them to get rich again quickly was to sell the recipes if they got their hands on them or have Lucy marry Jingzhe.

As his wife, she would be the queen of his empire and have access to all of his money.

"They are idiots whose plan will not go anywhere because the people they are targeting are clever and want nothing to do with them." Muyang patted Mei Mei’s head gently. "Don’t worry much about this matter and concentrate on your training.

Jingzhe and his mother will handle the situation. If they fail, your mother and I will step in. Flying those two off to another empire or kingdom and dumping them there forever is not very difficult. It is what we should have done to Mo Liang and his family as soon as they started buzzing around you."

The doctor arrived to take a look at Mei Mei’s neck.

There was a splash and a giggle. Thunder Jun had jumped into the pond and Mingzhu’s clothes were wet.

As Mei Mei’s neck was massaged, she wondered if she needed to bring up the subject of Pang Lucy with her boyfriend.

Women that were determined to climb the ladder were very dangerous and capable of anything.

She did not know that Madam Feng was already on her way to deal with her sister.
