Chapter 350: Clues on the fire.

The Vermillion Derby was a televised event so it was watched even in the cold prison. Mo Liang had been rooting for Mei Mei to fail.

She did not.

He could hardly swallow his dinner as the the large hologram on the wall of the dining hall in his section of the prison showed highlights of the race again. The prisoners were watching evening news which would not stop talking about it.

Mo Liang was certain that the prison warden was deliberately being cruel by making them all watch Phoenix news. It was like they were slapping him in the face over and over.

Mei Mei appeared on the screen, sunny smile, slightly flushed and a little sweaty.

"Time does not erase champions." She said.

Mo Liang felt tempted to stab his ears with a chopstick. Even the words she said were meant for him. He was sure that she was poking at him somehow. Every decision she made after divorcing him was deliberately calculated to punish him for having an affair.

"Hey astronaut, you cannot fly anymore but your ex-wife can fly on the back of a horse." Someone shouted.

Mo Liang ground the rice in his mouth harder. The more the other prisoners laughed, the angrier he became.

"Hey astronaut, more members of your family are here." A prison guard shouted loudly.

Mo Liang looked up and he saw Mo Wenbin entering the dining hall with a tray of food. He thought he would see some of his uncles too but Wenbin was alone.

Wenbin rushed to where Mo Liang was. Mo Liang welcomed him with a punch.

"Where is my money?" He bellowed.

As both brothers fought, chaos broke out in the prison. A picture of Mei Mei hugging the emperor blew up on the screen. It was followed by a picture of her kissing Jingzhe on the lips as he congratulated her. Jingzhe was carrying Mingzhu.

The warden watched it all in his office and he shook his head.

"Imagine being married to a woman like her and still not being satisfied." He snorted.

If he had been the lucky one to marry Jun Meilin, he would have spoiled her. He would have been her licking dog forever. Not just because of her looks and family background but also because of her abilities.

She left her family and started Space M, making it as successful as she could. Within days of deciding to divorce, she started Pearl space camp and it was already one of the nationally recommended tourist spots in the empire.

And her horse racing abilities had never died. Even if she left her family, she had other ways to make a living and guarantee her family a happy life.

And besides, no parents could forever hate their child. Sooner or later, Jun Meilin was always bound to return to her family. If Mo Liang had been honest and hardworking, he would have been acknowledged by the Jun’s.

Instead, he cheated, poisoned and humiliated the daughter of the one of the greatest noble houses in the empire. He had sealed his fate with his actions.

His assistant sneered. "He was greedy...I am afraid that it is cost him his life." He placed an old phone on the table before the warden. "Someone wants to trade what’s on this phone for special privileges. He says that it is proof that Mo Liang started the fire which almost killed Jun Meilin. The video on the phone is just a small part, he will provide the full one after his demands are met."

The warden’s heart dropped and picked up quickly. If what his assistant said was true, then he had stumbled on a gold mine.

"You won’t believe who the criminal with the video us." The assistant is.

The warden lowered his legs from the table and sat upright. "Who?"

"Huo Yanzhou." The assistant replied.

The warden gasped. "The serial arsonist!!"

The assistant nodded. "The one and only. A serial arsonist just happened to be at the scene when Mo Liang set the fire. At the time, he was still a student at that university and he was passing by when he saw someone acting suspicious.

After he realized what Mo Liang was up to, apparently he even gave him a pointer or random advise from the window. Then, he hid a distance away and recorded it all. He swears of course that he had no idea that Jun Meilin would be a victim.

He thought Mo Liang was planning to set fire to an empty lab and sabotage the chemistry Olympiad because he was sure he was going to come in last or not pass at all. The look on his face as he described the fire and explosions was one of pure bliss. If that psycho had not been caught, I am afraid he would have set this entire empire on fire."

The warden’s jaw dropped open. He could not sit anymore, the excitement he was feeling would not allow him to do so.

He picked up the phone and turned it on. As promised, there was part of the video. It showed Mo Liang entering the lab with some books three hours before the experimental part of the test started.

Then nothing.

"Eh!" He said, startled.

The assistant sighed. "The rest of the video will be turned in after his conditions are met."

The warden rubbed his hands. Everyone knew that the Jun family had turned over every rock to find evidence of arson or sabotage. In the end, they found nothing conclusive.

The cameras facing the lab had been under maintenance. There were so many new faces on the campus that whole week. It happened to be an entry week for new university students.

Even if Mo Liang had been seen entering the lab, there was no evidence that he started the fire. More importantly, there had been no motive. Other people had entered the room after he did.

There was also the fact that the lab had been inspected before the test started and no problems had been found.

Also the arson investigators concluded that it was likely to be a mechanical failure. Equipment malfunctioned and the chemicals being mixed did the rest of the job.

But, with this video, if it was real, answers would finally be provided.

The warden licked his lips as he thought about the windfall that had fallen in his lap. How much would the Jun’s pay for the video?

It would probably be a lot of money because it would be another nail in Mo Liang’s coffin.

He turned the phone off and put it inside his safe. Then he looked at his assistant and said, "Bring me Huo Yanzhou."
