Lady Meilin is seduced by her green tea brother-in-law everyday-Chapter 313: To race or not to race.
The silence on the other end of the line seemed to judge Mei Mei before her mother could even respond. Why couldn’t she be trusted, the answer was easy.
HER FIRST MARRIAGE!!!
Mei Mei growled. "I know what you are thinking mother but move on. Yes, I married a terrible man but that does not mean this one decision should ruin the rest of my life. I am allowed to redeem myself and I am tired of people acting like I have a neon sign on top of my head which reads "here comes the idiot that married the wrong man even though her parents warned her multiple times not to do it."
On the other end of the phone, Chi Lian was arching her brows because she had not said any of the things Mei Mei was saying. But, her daughter had always been prone to leaping to conclusions early sometimes.
Mei Mei huffed. "When are we going to move on?"
"Who says we haven’t?" Chi Lian asked her.
Mei Mei was stunned and her lips thinned. The response her mother gave was not what she was expecting to hear. Now what? Suddenly she was feeling stupid for ranting like an idiot.
Chi Lian said, "Mei Mei the Vermillion derby is going to be held in three weeks. I assumed you were joining and you would not have time to participate in small things like the ruination of a small fish like Hui Zhenting."
Mei Mei’s hand tightened around her phone. The idea of joining professional horse racing had not crossed her mind since she returned to her origins. Granted, she was once a rider bred for greatness but that had been a decade ago. Now, she was a has been. There were a lot of young riders, some of whom performed tricks that were once thought impossible.
The Vermillion derby was hosted by the royal family for nobles. Each noble family had to send a rider to represent them in the race.
The prize was a golden cup and a cash prize of five million yuan.
It was not the prize money which the nobles competed for, it was the glory that came with it. The right to brag and a lot of money followed when it came to business like breeding. The winning horse could even be sold for millions.
Her mother’s voice came again. "Mei Mei, you were the first winner of the derby when it was started. You were only twelve at the time and you continued to win four more times.
Our Jun family has not had a single win since you left because nobody wants to do it. Even those that would do it do not think they could be as great as you.
Baby you were born to ride. You allowed it to be stolen from you once. Are you going to continue to do so? Think of how proud Mingzhu would be to see you in the competition.
If you want to erase the mistakes of the past years completely and let people see you in a new light again, give them something else to talk about. Make them realize that you were never gone, you just took a break."
Silence. Chi Lian could hear Mei Mei struggling with the decision. It was a given that she would have some insecurities and a lot more things to consider after all, she was not a free teenager that was riding for fun and a desire to see her pictures in the newspaper.
If she went back to professional racing, she would be doing it to prove a point. What if she failed to prove the point? If she failed.....
Chi Lian sighed. "You still have time to consider things so think about it carefully. However, the time you have for training is not a lot so make the decision quickly. I also have no idea how fast your horses can run but the rules have changed since you last rode.
They test the genes of all horses that will be participating a week before. Those that show signs of being extremely superior are eliminated because they have unfair advantages over normal horses.
No horses with artificial limbs are allowed. Horses that are engineered in the lab are also forbidden. So, if your horse is special you need to train quickly and develop a synchronicity ahead of the race early enough."
Mei Mei sniffed.
"Do you have a cold?" Chi Lian raised her voice. "I am coming over right now. This is why I told you not to run around in the rain after the funeral. Why must you do the opposite of everything I say?"
The call was ended by her mother abruptly.
Mei Mei was smiling as she left the pantry. Even though her mother was sharp tongued, she was soft hearted. Suddenly, she was yanked by someone and she let out a loud surprised cry. When she realized that the one yanking her was Chen Zhilan, she huffed.
"Zhilan, you lunatic why can’t you use your words? Are you trying to rip my arm out of the socket?"
Zhilan continued to pull Mei Mei until they moved from the kitchen to the living room where all of her friends plus Jun Yi, Jun Rose and Jun Liping were sitting. Some were already eating what had been left in the kitchen after lunch was served and others were eating cheese cakes, snacks and tea.
Why did everyone show up to her house just to eat? Mei Mei asked herself. And why had she been dragged over?
"Who called this meeting of the gluttons?" she asked them.
Zhilan frowned. "Who told you to marry into the cheese cake family?"
Some of her friends laughed and others just continued stuffing their mouths.
"We are here because our good friend Meihua suddenly decided to get married." Taiyuan shared.
Mei Mei’s mouth gaped. "What?" Wasn’t her friend recovering from a recent heartbreak? Had she reconciled with her boyfriend?
"She is marrying Duan Siping from the Duan family." Jun Yi raised her voice.
Mei Mei raised her eyebrows. She did not know the Duan family. Who were they?
Rose saw the confusion on Mei Mei’s face and put down her fork. "The Duan family became nobles six years ago because they made some kind of scientific contributions. It is a scholarly family that lives frugally."
"She means that they are too lazy or cowardly to go into business." Jun Liping said sarcastically.
"Hey!!!" Meihua raised her voice. "Not everyone wants to be a businessman. Some people are content living very normal lives."
"Bullshit." Zhilan sneered.
Mei Mei could sense a deviation in the conversation so she decided to draw attention back to herself. It would have been easier to clap her hands or call out some names but instead, she barked like a dog!!
