Chapter 270: The vain Empress under control.

Jingzhe clapped his hands dramatically. "Oh right, I forgot to tell you because we were all busy celebrating the National Liberation Day. You were enjoying your family reunion so you did not hear about it. Mo Chenyu was one of the people that died in the riot at the cold prison."

Mei Mei gasped again. She almost smiled...Mo Chenyu was the only one that died in the riot. The other two people were very much alive, living somewhere in her ancestral home. "Why wasn’t it mentioned in the news?"

"It was." Grandpa Mo pitched in. "Do you really expect me to believe that you had no idea about Chenyu’s death?"

Mei Mei chuckled. Just once. "Old man, look around you. I am too busy to care about the affairs of your Mo family. I handed in evidence of Mo Chenyu’s crimes and that was the last time I saw or heard about him.

I am not a member of your family. I am not legally required to be notified by the police when one of you drops dead. As for your wife divorcing you, it is none of my business.

You made her accustomed to a high end life. Did you think a woman like her would follow you back to the pits of poverty where you came from?"

Grandpa Mo gripped his cane again.

"Old man, I cannot help you. Even if I could, I do not intend to. We must all suffer the consequences of our choices. When I chose Mo Liang against the wishes of my family, I suffered the consequences. I paid the price and learned my lesson. It is your turn." She gestured to the door. "Show yourselves out before I invite the police to show you out."

She leaned back in the chair with her cup of tea in her hands. Her body language screamed loudly that she would not be talking anymore.

"I will be back again and again," Grandpa Mo said, standing and buttoning his coat. "I will keep returning until you find a way to forgive us. I still believe in your goodness, Jun Meilin. I also know that forgiveness is the only way you will truly move on. The best revenge you can have is to live gloriously."

Oh she would! Mei Mei smiled. She would live gloriously and they would watch her do it from wherever the wind blew them.

Mo Ai followed her grandfather out of the door. Assistant Han closed it.

Jingzhe got out of the bean bag chair and approached her. Standing behind her, he placed his arms on her shoulders and gave her a massage. "You handled that very well."

Mei Mei looked up at him. She leaned forward and placed the cup of milk tea back on the tea. It was sweet but she wanted something sweeter.

Reaching out, she pulled him and made him sit on her lap. Smiling at him, she said, "A Zhe, were where we before we were so rudely interrupted?"

He leaned down to show her exactly where they had been.

[The mighty little peep star: The Empress Unplugged.

This peep star is truly curious about this rebranding of Empress Hui and her war on all things digital? Is it true or is she on an attention seeking mission? Since when is the queen of smart gadgets, miss phone addict, cannot go anywhere without her smart mirror the face of anti tech in the world?

This peep star is skeptical.....very skeptical. She will have to do so much more to prove me wrong.

But, following the attempted assassination by an unknown enemy who committed suicide just before interrogation at the headquarters of the Imperial command, I think Empress Hui will soon throw in the towel.

By the way, beloved Empress, technology is being used to investigate your attempted assassination. So, a win for tech and a loss for you.]

Below this post were pictures of investigators at the stadium from the Imperial command. They were using all kinds of gadgets to track the movements of the shooter. Imperial Commander Jun Mingzhe was leading the investigation personally.

As with most post made by the peep star, this one had gained attention. The reaction was mixed as some people were supportive of the Empress’s new focus and others were skeptical like the peep star.

Empress Hui was discussing this post with her advisors. As predicted by the peep star, she truly wanted to throw in the towel. The shooting had scared her and she was worried that there seemed to be no tangible progress in the case.

She had another anti tech talk scheduled at a university this evening and she was worried about another assassination attempt.

Some of her advisors wanted her to cancel it but others that were in league with the Empress Mother were encouraging her to just keep going. One even showed the most recent popularity polls. She was more popular than some of the Empress’s and queens of other empires and kingdoms.

How could she give in now?

The door to her office was opened and two royal jewelers entered. They had brought with them necklaces, rings, earrings and a new sparkly crown.

"A gift from the Emperor." The royal secretary announced as she waltzed in carefully. "He is in D city for the opening of Crown University’s newest branch. He will not be able to attend your anti tech talk but he has sent these and he will be available to make a video call during the talk and express his support."

Empress Hui eyed the jewels with such naked greed. She accepted all of them. The Emperor was finally getting his opinions straight. These were the things he was supposed to give her, not the common jewelry which any noble could afford.

Royal dressmakers entered the room after the royal jewelers left. Jingzhe’s secretary was still there and she said, "Outfits selected by the Empress Mother."

After the outfits, shoes were brought. All these things dazzled and tempted Empress Hui. She forgot about her reservations and her fears dissipated. Now, she could not wait for the public to see her glowing.

She tried on a red sapphire necklace and pair of silver high heels embedded with sheer crystals. Empress Hui smiled as she received praise from the full length smart mirror. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

"Let’s pick an outfit for the talk." She told her attendants and advisors. "Something that will make me look as young as the university students." She run her hand over her neck and winced. "Call my plastic surgeon, the mirror says my neck is sagging by three inches. I need a Nerfertiti lift."

The royal secretary wanted to remind her that she she had already had one four months ago. She was having difficulty swallowing lately. There was such a thing as too much plastic surgery!

An advisor stepped out of the room and sent the Empress Mother a message. The vain Empress was appeased and the plan could continue.
