Lady Meilin is seduced by her green tea brother-in-law everyday-Chapter 255: Grandparents battling it out....1
Mei Mei could remember being caught in the middle of the Chi and Jun family as a child. Both sets of grandparents wanted her to spend time and special holidays with them. It always got more competitive around the Chinese New Year and things always escalated.
Both families had settled the matter by just spending every holiday together, as much as they could. It seemed like an easy solution until bed time would come around and again, the tug of war would begin with both sets of grandparents wanting her to sleep with them.
It should have been easy because she was a twin and Mingzhe was right there. But, from an early age, Mingzhe had declared independence. No sleeping with others, no cheek pinching, no butt slaps, no dragging him away from his homework or research to dance, no matchmaking...he was a ’no’ child and transitioned into a ’no’ man.
Rose was already a teenager when she joined their family so there was no babying her.
This left Mei Mei as the one and only highly sought-after toddler in the family until more grandchildren were born. But even then, she retained her favor and the custody warfare never ended. For Mingzhu, it was pretty much the same now.
Judge Gong, who had been on her way to golf had literally been kidnapped and whisked to the house. If the Empress Mother had not come along, judge Gong would have alerted the police.
As the lawyers of both sides explained to her why she was there and what unusual case she would be presiding over, the judge wondered if the people involved were sane. How could they declared a full-scale custody negotiation summit over a grandchild?
Lawyers from both sides handed her cheques with very fat legal fees and she smiled. Golf could wait.
"Are both parents here?" She settled into the chair that had been arranged for her.
Mediator Wei had been sitting there but when he saw the judge, he shifted and took on the job of court clerk and judicial officer.
"Here." Rose called out eagerly.
Mei Mei and Jingzhe raised their hands, smiling tentatively.
Judge Gong slid her spectacles over her eyes and looked at the pair. "And the little one in your arms must be the child whose custody we are here to settle."
"She is my granddaughter your honor." Chi Lian spoke up.
"And mine." Madam Feng added, shooting Chi Lian a look that would have vaporized her, or turned her into an ingredient to be added in one of Huaqi’s cakes.
Judge Gong was treating this matter seriously and she looked at Mediator Wei with firmness in her gaze. "Why hasn’t everyone settled down yet? Do I have to take care of it myself?"
Mediator Wei apologized to her first, looked out and raised his voice. "The honorable judge Gong is in the house. Will everyone gather around and settle down. There will be no need to stand."
As instructed, they all settled down, including some family pets that did not understand what was going on. They sat in a circle, the Jun’s to one side and madam Feng and her group on another side. In the middle, Mei Mei, Jingzhe, Mingzhu and Rose.
From the door way and below windows, nosy maids peeked inside.
In front of Madam Feng were pictures of her and Mingzhu from the day they had met. On top of the stack was a photo in which they were baking a cake together, wearing similar chef outfits.
Chi Lian had pictures too. Photos of Mingzhu as a baby and photos from their shopping trip, dance class, knitting class, spy class and more. All taken within the week that Mingzhu had been with her and her husband.
She also had peach buns, a ballet outfit, ribbons and a scroll titled, "Girls and grannies synchronized swimming styles for bonding."
Jun Muyang had pictures of Mingzhu sitting at a desk, learning about business and economics. Whether she understood did not matter. What mattered was that he was willing to teach. He also had books on calligraphy, pens and ink brushes, and a longevity lock.
"Lets start with the dad’s side." Judge Gong said.
A sharp gasp of betrayal came from Chi Lian. A smirk came from Madam Feng.
A man stood up. "Lawyer Bao, for Madam Feng, your honor. My client’s love for her first and only granddaughter Mingzhu is undeniable. She is not as lucky and Lady Chi and Lord Jun to have other grandchildren."
Again, Chi Lian gasped. Madam Feng was a sly snake and she wanted to use emotional warfare, making them seem like they had many options!!
Lawyer Bao picked up the pictures Madam Feng had prepared. "Your honor, my client and her granddaughter not only live together but they also have a schedule that was already worked out and Miss Feng Mingzhu loves it.
We would like to turn in these pictures as evidence of how they spend their time together from waking up to when Miss Mingzhu goes to bed."
Mediator Wei took the pictures and scanned them with a hologram app, projecting them in the middle of the room.
"What does your client want Mr. Bao?" Judge Gong asked, hoping to speed things up.
"My client’s demands are simple," Lawyer Bao answered, "Every time Lady Chi or anyone from the Jun family comes over and takes Miss Mingzhu out, she would like to be notified.
This is for safety reasons for Mingzhu and to prevent my client from having more heart tremors than usually suffers."
Chi Lian scoffed. What heart tremors? Madam Feng was as healthy as a horse in its prime. No wonder Jingzhe was cunning, he had learned from his mother.
"My client would like Lady Chi’s sworn word that she will keep to Miss Mingzhu’s appropriate foods list and not sneak in oily, overly sweet, inappropriate foods. Exhibit B is a recording of Miss Mingzhu personally admitting to eating seven ice creams today since morning, hot pot with chili oil, three scallion pancakes."
"We were in mediation with Mei Mei all day!!" Chi Lian exclaimed. "We were not even aware of what Mingzhu was eating. She was with her great grandparents."
Madam Feng smiled smugly and said. "I would be aware. She raised the food menu which she had prepared for Mingzhu when her teeth started loosening up. I distributed this to everyone."
Meanwhile, Mingzhu had her eyes tightly shut to avoid her mother’s disapproving eyes. Seven ice creams was a spanking waiting to happen.
Even judge Gong was frowning. "Seven ice creams for a six year old! Which great grandparent is this?"
Rose shook her head. "Your mother-in-law is sneaky." She whispered to Mei Mei.
