Zhilan’s fingers danced for joy. "The four of us can raise this leech together. It can take turns moving from one house to the other on a weekly or monthly basis. My P.A. will make the schedule basing on what we agree on. We have already agreed to name him Leech Mo."

Taiyuan groaned in disbelief.

Mei Mei looked at the rectangular, crystal pet container. It was filled with moist dark soil layered like a chocolate cake: A small tree with a single curled leaf provided shade. Droplets of moisture pooled on the inner walls.

A very tiny puddle of water shimmered in one corner. The occupant, Leech Mo was dark as midnight ink and he was sleeping on the soil.

Chen Zhilan was still talking about the shared pet. "He is a terrestrial leech that is why we need the moist soil and the tree. So what do you think? Did I do great?"

Mei Mei was still a little to speechless to respond on demand.

Zhilan took her silence for approval. "I knew that you would be on board. I told my P.A. to open a weibo page for him. We will make Leech Mo more famous than Jun Meow Meow."

"It is not a competition." Taiyuan muttered.

Meow Meow’s next squeak sounded a lot like a gasp. And Mei Mei convinced herself that she did not hear it.

"So, we are the sisterhood of the traveling leech." Taiyuan said softly. "Unbelievable. Just so we get this out of the way, do you know the leech’s birth date and zodiac?"

Zhilan put her hand on her chin and said very slowly, "He was definitely born in the year of the dog. Look at his character, he is easygoing and optimistic. And he kind of looks like a dog."

Taiyuan scoffed. Zhilan went back and forth between the 12 Chinese zodiacs and the Western zodiacs. She had a preference for the Western ones and relied on them mostly.

Madam Feng walked in on them and greeted them. Then she looked at the leech and shook her head. The pets were becoming way too many in this house. Who looked at a leech and decided to take it home?

"This is Leech Mo." Zhilan introduced her to the newest pet with joy.

Madam Feng had so many questions. But, she would reserve them for when they were sitting at the dining table.

"Is A Zhe back?" she asked Mei Mei.

"Not yet." Mei Mei replied.

Madam Feng nodded. She reached into her pocket and brought out a golf ball small candy box and she out it in Mei Mei’s hand. "I brought you some treats but don’t spoil your dinner."

She gestured for everyone to follow her to the dining room. Mei Mei stayed back to unwrap her treat. She could hear Zhilan begging for treats too.

Hardly had she finished unwrapping the treat when she realized that she had company. Creatures with large hopeful eyes that were lined up at her feet. Even Meow Meow was looking down, interested in the treat.

"No, now shoo." She gestured for them all to go away.

Instead of going, they tried to climb up her dress even more. The kittens were meowing, the parrot was screaming, the tiger cub was acting like it had not just finished having dinner, the wolf cub was whining and General Big Yellow looked a sprinter getting ready to run.

"Why are you all acting like cave pets?" she asked them.

She stood up and started to make a quick exit but her animal farm followed her to the dining room.

Tang Bingwen was regretting having eaten his dinner early. This was because he was finally in front of Lady Chi Lian and he was scared like a little boy standing before a mighty wave.

He was so nervous that he was sure that he might soil his pants and embarrass himself in front of her.

One had to think twice before saying anything in the presence of such bodyguards or else they would loose a few teeth or their life.

Rich and powerful people always made it seem like they were not showing off how much power they had but it was exactly what they were doing. They wanted you to know your place.
