Chapter 243: Meihua’s stages of crying.

Mei Mei’s hatred for snakes increased even more after she read about Yama and she pushed the papers aside. "C4, is this real?"

"It doesn’t look like a fictional novel to me." C4 replied.

Mei Mei sighed. Whoever or whatever these people were, they were mad scientists that would bring the end of the world with their crazy experiments. Nobody was asking for serial killer snakes and dominant narcissist lizards.

There were many humans with such traits. If they needed subjects to study, Mo Liang was up for grabs. Why did they have to pervert animals too and put humans at risk and all for what?

Despite the complaints in her mind, she was still curious and she wanted to read more. A knock on the door made her pause and she arranged the papers, planning to return to them later.

Mama Su pushed the door open slowly. "Young miss, my daughter has arrived for her interview and your friends have also come." She smiled stiffly, "Miss Meihua is crying."

Mei Mei sighed. Meihua would be crying until she got a new boyfriend or got back together with Bo Liang. And there was the miracle fix, if she managed to mend her broken heart on her own. "On a scale of one to ten, where are we with the crying?"

There were 10 levels to Rong Meihua’s crying which often turned dramatic.

One: A single tear, just quiet crying.

Two: Sniffling and glassy eyes.

Three: Broken voice and sulking. She had tears but they would not fall.

Four: Tears falling soundlessly like a soft blowing gently. No words, no motion.

Five: Stifled sobs, shoulders shaking. Not too loud but deep.

Six: A storm of sorrow, open weeping, raised voice and flushed face.

Seven: The banshee. She would wail so loudly that even neighbors were aggrieved on her behalf.

Eight: Crazy woman. Screams mixed with sobs and hurricane hair.

Nine: The flood: Tears would flow like a river, she would break glass. Dams would break.

Ten: The singer: She would sing her sorrow loudly on a microphone, dedicating every song to who or what had disappointed her. She would sing until the sky turned black, stars weeped, babies stopped crying and everyone needed painkillers for their headache.

"Do you remember when young master Mingzhe put a spider on her face during that sleep over?" Su mama asked.

Mei Mei got it. It was an eight. ’It means she will be fine"

Mama Su laughed and shut the door. Mei Mei took a shower and tentatively walked downstairs, not knowing what she was walking into. Her ears were sharp and she heard the sound of Meihua’s muffled scream.

She also heard her friends arguing.

"If you had listened to me when I told you about the signs..."

"Say sign one more time Zhilan and I will bash your head in with Mei Mei’s crystal wand."

"Hey, I gave her that wand. It has healing energy and it cleanses aura."

"All the more reason to break it."

Mei Mei paused at the bottom of the steps and she laughed. This reminded her of high school and the old days....all their life until she left. None of them had changed over the years.

She took one deep breath and finally walked into the living room with a welcoming smile. "Hello everyone."

Taiyuan let go of Meihua’s mouth to wave and say hi.

Meihua’s high pitched scream was released immediately, mixed with the words all men are bastards. Everyone was sure she would eat her words as soon as she started dating again.

Mei Mei took in the frightening sight of Meihua. Her hair was in disarray as if it had been electrocuted, mascara was running down her eyes. Her face was more puffy that a puff pastry. It was also reddish pink.

She let out a high pitched sigh and looked at Han Xinyu, mama Su’s daughter. A young woman, slim shaped with a face that was perfectly remarkably symmetrical. Her features were well balanced, with the eyes, nose and lips harmoniously aligned.

"Wow!" Mei Mei exclaimed.

Zhilan squeezed in the single sofa and leaned her head towards Mei Mei. "You see it too, right? Her face is so perfect." She whispered, "But she is a Scorpio. You are surrounded by too many Scorpio’s lately. We should do an aura cleansing."

Mei Mei shoved Zhilan’s head away with one finger and she smiled at Han Xinyu. "Miss Han, it is wonderful to see you. Has your mom explained why you are here?"

Miss Han nodded solemnly. "She said that if I do not become your personal assistant then she will disown me."

Mei Mei laughed. "I am sure she is joking."

"No, she is not." Miss Han replied, without a smile.

Zhilan leaned towards Mei Mei, "No sense of humor."

Mei Mei shoved Zhilan’s head away again and Meihua started to scream but Taiyuan covered her face with a pillow. Tea jumped into Mei Mei’s arms, begging to be lifted and hugged.

Despite all the little ruckus here and there, Mei Mei continued with the interview like a serious boss. "Miss Han, I am not just looking for a personal assistant. I am looking for a confidante and a force multiplier. I need someone that will stop me from buying stupid art like that..." She pointed to the painting of goats looking at burnt toast.

"Si Lijuan, rising contemporary painter that has been steadily progressing for three years. That painting is named the Ashes of Appetite, the goats signify primal instinct or desire and the toast, failure and disappointment. According to the painter, Lijuan, the work broaches the subject of wild nature confronting domestic failure."

"They are goats judging burnt toast." Taiyuan said casually. "No matter how many fancy profound symbolic or satirical explanations are given, it remains how it appears, goats and burnt toast and stupid. I say the painter lacked inspiration and they should be sent to art prison.

This painting is a crime against all of humanity, we should unite and set it on fire. Then we can take the ashes back to her and make her paint something better that does not offend our eyes."

Han Xinyu responded mechanically, "In three years, this painting will be able to resell for four times the original value if the painter is alive and more successful than she is today. If she dies, it will be six times and if the death is gruesome, it will be ten times the original value. It was not your best acquisition but it will return the investment."

Mei Mei smiled at Taiyuan, eyes filled with gloating. "Ha!" She said loudly.
