Chapter 374: If We Can’t Be Friends, We Shouldn’t Become Enemies

"Alright, I’ll tell them when I head out," Su Hongchen replied with a smile, his heart filled with gratitude for them. If it weren’t for Jiang Yexun’s insights and the information he had extracted from those people, Su Hongchen would still be running around in circles without a clue.

Even if they had found the suspects, there was no guarantee they would have uncovered any solid evidence.

"Okay, go get some rest now. Who knows, there might be even more work waiting for you when you wake up," Mrs. Su advised him lovingly.

Su Hongchen nodded, quickly freshened up, and hurried back to his room to sleep.

When Su Xiaoxiao woke up, Su Hongchen had only been asleep for about an hour. Seeing her parents signaling for quiet as they cleaned up, and pointing towards Su Hongchen’s room, she tiptoed cautiously.

"How did it go? Did you find the stuff?" Su Xiaoxiao asked in a soft voice as she sat at the table.

Mrs. Su smiled and nodded, "Yes, we found it. Our Xiaoxiao is so smart. Without your help, who knows how long it would’ve taken for your dad to clear his name."

"I just gave a random suggestion, really. It’s mostly because my brother trusted me," Su Xiaoxiao said shyly, her face flushing red with embarrassment.

"He’s your brother. Of course, he should trust what you say," Mr. Su responded, not seeing anything strange about it.

After all, if family members couldn’t trust each other, then what kind of family would they be? If decades of living together couldn’t foster genuine trust, then such a person might never trust anyone in their lifetime.

After finishing breakfast, they noticed that Jiang Yexun still hadn’t arrived. They glanced at the clock, a bit puzzled.

Just as they were wondering if something had happened, there was a knock at the door. Opening it, they were greeted by Jiang Yexun’s polite smile.

"Good morning, Uncle and Auntie," he greeted warmly.

Noticing the weariness on his face, Mr. and Mrs. Su felt a pang of concern. "Jiang, what happened? Did something come up last night?"

"No, it’s just that the investigation is almost done, and I got a little carried away chatting with a friend," Jiang Yexun explained hastily.

The truth was, he had a bit of a disagreement with He Xingzhi the previous night. After finally finding his long-lost sister, He Xingzhi was incredibly protective of her, practically treating her like the apple of his eye. So, when Jiang mentioned that the girl’s personality might have been spoiled by being overindulged, He Xingzhi immediately took offense. He argued that it was awful to judge a six-year-old girl in such a way.

Jiang Yexun wasn’t angry, but he did feel powerless. After all, no one wants to see someone they care about judged like that. But this also meant that his friendship with He Xingzhi had likely reached its end.

"Have you had breakfast yet? Would you like to eat here before heading back?" Mrs. Su asked, concerned.

"No, it’s a bit late already. If I eat here, I might hold you up. I’ll head back instead. My mom made breakfast too, so I can eat there," Jiang Yexun replied apologetically.

Mr. and Mrs. Su didn’t insist, understanding his situation.

After dropping Su Xiaoxiao off at the small building, they hurried off to work. Once inside, Su Xiaoxiao noticed that neither He Xingzhi nor He Hongni were around. Curious, she asked where they had gone. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

Aunt Guo sighed helplessly, "They didn’t even have breakfast. First thing in the morning, they said they were going to the supply and marketing cooperative to buy new clothes and shoes for Hongni."

"Hmm," Jiang Yexun responded lightly, clearly not wanting to talk about them.

Seeing the situation, Su Xiaoxiao could easily guess what had happened, but it was something no one could really interfere with. She chose to remain silent.

Only Aunt Guo continued to speak earnestly, "Yexun, the matter between the He siblings is something we can’t control. You’ve already reminded them once, and you were serious about it. If they won’t listen, there’s no need to push it. Even if you can’t remain friends, there’s no need to become enemies."
