Chapter 776: Chapter 775: Hitting the Road

Chen Nuo nodded and then asked Xuanzang, "What are you seeking from your journey to the Western Heaven for Scriptures? You have encountered so many demons along the way, aren’t you the least bit afraid, won’t you back down?"

This question actually stumped Xuanzang, for he himself seemed unsure. Ever since he became conscious, he felt that everything he did was necessary. He had always followed his instincts, but if he were truly asked why he did so, he couldn’t be clear.

Seeing Xuanzang’s silence, Bodhisattva Guanyin promptly said, "Since we have already stayed here for such a long time, I think, Mr. Chen, since you have agreed to accompany the Tang Monk on his journey to the Western Heaven for Scriptures, we should not delay any longer and may as well depart."

Snapping out of his thoughts, Xuanzang nodded, picking up on Bodhisattva Guanyin’s words, "The Bodhisattva is right. We should hurry and depart. We can’t afford any more delays. Unknowingly, we have already stayed here for nearly half a month, and the scripture-seeking journey has been delayed by who knows how much."

Since they said they were leaving, Master Zhenyuan had no reason to keep them. Bodhisattva Guanyin left on the Treasure Lotus, and he too swept back to his palace with a wave of his sleeve, leaving only Qingfeng and Mingyue to see off the guests.

Xuanzang first apologized to Qingfeng and Mingyue, and then said his farewells.

Actually, Mingyue was only angry with the Six-Eared Macaque. Feeling somewhat guilty about wronging Xuanzang, and since what was done could not be undone, he accepted Xuanzang’s apologies while offering his own.

By the time they had apologized to each other for the third round, the Six-Eared Macaque could no longer hold back and left, leading the white horse away.

After leaving from here, Chen Nuo wandered leisurely, with the Six-Eared Macaque leading the horse and the three of them resuming their journey.

After walking for a while, they passed through a forest, and the Six-Eared Macaque looked around and said to Xuanzang on the horse, "Master, once we get through this forest, we should reach a village. Let’s find a village to rest well and then continue our journey tomorrow."

Xuanzang nodded, "That would be very good. Mr. Chen has walked all day, are you tired? Why don’t you ride the horse for a while?"

Chen Nuo waved his hand, not sure if Xuanzang was truly being considerate or just making a polite offer. Yet since such words had been spoken, he still had to decline.

"There’s no need, Elder. I am used to walking, and such a small distance is really nothing to me, so please ride at ease, Elder, and do not worry on my account."

Xuanzang responded back and forth with Chen Nuo a couple of times, and then reluctantly, he could only ride ahead.

Chen Nuo calculated, ’It won’t be long now, she’s about to appear.’

Indeed, after walking a bit further, they could see a girl carrying a basket and hurrying along.

Xuanzang, being taller on the horse, quickly spotted the girl and urged the Six-Eared Macaque to go ahead and ask, "Wukong, that girl seems to be in quite a hurry. Go and see if something has happened. Don’t let her worry alone."

The Six-Eared Macaque also saw the girl and initially wanted to pretend not to, but since the master had spoken, he had no choice but to comply, taking a few steps forward and addressing the girl, "Miss, what are you doing here, why the panic?"

The girl was originally flustered and became frightened upon seeing the Six-Eared Macaque. Xuanzang hurried his horse forward to speak with the girl.

"Miss, do not be afraid. This person is my disciple. Although his appearance is a bit ugly, he has a kind heart. He just wanted to ask if you have met with any trouble. We didn’t intend to scare you, and we are truly sorry."

Honestly, if it weren’t for the fact that Tang Monk is indifferent to women, his words would have been the epitome of insincerity.

Chen Nuo was somewhat speechless. Knowing that his disciple was bound to frighten people, yet still thinking about sending him forward in such a situation, he really didn’t understand the reasoning.

The girl, upon seeing Tang Monk, let out a sigh of relief and said, "I came to bring lunch for my husband, but for some reason, I can’t find him anywhere. With the sky getting dark, I am feeling increasingly uneasy, hence my hurried steps."

Xuanzang looked at the darkening sky and realized it was indeed late. "May I ask, miss, what your husband does? Could he already be at home by now?"

"My husband works in the fields. I left at noon to bring him lunch, but he was nowhere to be found in the fields. I don’t know what he is up to. I’ve been looking for him here, but with no luck," the girl said as she sized up Xuanzang.

Chen Nuo could tell by her demeanor that she was a monster. This White Bone Essence seemed to have no magic artifacts. Not wanting to waste anymore time here, he directly used the Demon-revealing Mirror on Six Ears.

The Demon-revealing Mirror in his hand could not only reveal whether a person was human or a demon but could also project its light into others’ eyes.

However, the effect wouldn’t last very long, at most the duration of an incense stick, but for Six Ears, that was more than enough.

Six Ears, who had initially felt bored and didn’t plan on using it, couldn’t help but feel that the girl looked more and more like a demon the longer he watched.

He rubbed his eyes and now he couldn’t even see the girl’s physical body. All he saw was a skeleton talking, so he quickly pulled Xuanzang behind him.

Xuanzang was still talking about having his disciple help the girl find her husband, but he was abruptly pulled back by his disciple. Feeling this was very rude, he said, "Wukong, I am speaking with the miss. What are you doing?"

"What miss? That is a demon!" Six Ears said.

His voice was loud, and the girl, hearing this, immediately became frantic, "A demon? What demon? Where is the demon?"

Xuanzang, seeing her frightened demeanor, which was a spitting image of his own helplessness, said to Six Ears with a sigh, "You mischievous monkey, how can you scare a female donor with talk of demons? Miss, do not be afraid, my disciple has a rather mischievous nature. He is just trying to play a joke on you. There isn’t really a demon, so do not worry."

Chen Nuo was somewhat speechless. Xuanzang really was too trusting of others. He remembered that in his past life as Jin Chanzi, he was only a bit stubborn, but not foolish. What happened now that he had become a mortal? Could it be that his intelligence had also been halved?

"So that’s how it is. You scared me. I thought there was really a demon," the girl said. But she had barely spoken these words, not even finishing what she was about to say next, when she was killed by Six Ears.

Xuanzang was terrified, looking incredulously at Six Ears, "Wicked disciple, what have you done? The female donor was just speaking peacefully over there. Have you lost your mind? How could you kill her?!"
