Chapter 775: Chapter 774 I Want Nothing

You never know, those people from Buddhism might really treat him like a beggar, after all, his current identity is just an ordinary mortal. Since he’s a mortal, he wouldn’t know much about Buddhist matters, naturally, they’d give him whatever they think he should have.

For Xuanzang and the Six-Eared Macaque, they were promised Achieving Buddhahood, but when it came to Chen Nuo, Guanyin only mentioned benefits and Merit Points, without a word of anything else.

They thought Chen Nuo was clueless, so they’d give him less if they could, but what they didn’t know was Chen Nuo’s real identity. If they did, not to mention fooling him, even double the reward they’re offering wouldn’t be enough to impress him.

Bodhisattva Guanyin and Master Zhenyuan took turns trying to persuade him, but Chen Nuo wasn’t the least bit tempted. However, the system had told him that he indeed was moved, after all, the Magic Artifacts in Golden Horn King’s possession were just too many.

Chen Nuo was receiving messages from the system and had no time to bother with what was happening outside.

His expression was cool and detached. In the eyes of Bodhisattva Guanyin and Master Zhenyuan, this person was actually looking to refuse, but because they had pressed him a bit too eagerly earlier, he was a bit angry and didn’t want to deal with them anymore.

Bodhisattva Guanyin laughed dryly twice, another rejection wasn’t easy to take, but he had no intention of letting things end on such an awkward note. Thus, he said to Master Zhenyuan,

"Since this gentleman is still considering, I think we need to give him some time to think things over. Grand Immortal Zhenyuan, what do you think?"

Master Zhenyuan also laughed dryly, nodded, "I think Bodhisattva Guanyin makes sense. So, in that case, let’s drink some tea first. When this gentleman feels that he’s ready to agree to the Bodhisattva, we can then discuss the next steps."

Xuanzang felt like he’d finally found a gap to speak, so taking advantage of the silence, he asked timidly,

"Honored one, may I ask about my disciple? Can you see if he has reflected on his actions? I think he should have by now. Perhaps you could let him come out and apologize to you first?"

It was then that Master Zhenyuan remembered that he had someone in his Sleeve Universe. He nodded, and it was indeed a good time to use the Six-Eared Macaque to buy some time.

So he called into his sleeve, "Monkey, tell me, have you reflected properly yet?"

The Six-Eared Macaque had long since reflected. He had even prepared to plead with Master Zhenyuan, not expecting to be left aside while they went off to ask that mortal if he wanted to join his master on the Journey to the West for Scriptures.

If truth be told, he wasn’t very keen on having the mortal join him. Firstly, because he was a mortal who would encounter many demons on the way, and apart from looking after his master, he’d have to take care of the mortal, which was not something he had time for.

Secondly, had it not been for that mortal, he wouldn’t necessarily have been exposed as the one who picked the Ginseng Fruit, so he was still angry about that.

As soon as Master Zhenyuan asked, the Six-Eared Macaque immediately replied, "I’ve reflected, really, I’ve reflected! Please let me out quickly, I’m so irritated being in here, I can’t stand it for another moment."

Master Zhenyuan snorted coldly, "What nonsense are you talking, monkey? My Sleeve Universe is so spacious inside, you could even build a world in there, how could you be feeling stifled?"

"Who said anything about being stifled? I said I’m irritated, really irritated waiting inside, is that not allowed?" the Six-Eared Macaque retorted.

Master Zhenyuan had not yet released the Six-Eared Macaque, but now, hearing what he said, he suddenly stopped moving.

Seeing Master Zhenyuan’s action, Xuanzang hurriedly called his disciple to apologize to Master Zhenyuan, "Disciple, stop talking, come out and talk later. Once you’re out, apologize to the temple master and speak no more of the other matters."

Then, the Six-Eared Macaque realized his position and consequently restrained himself, waiting for Master Zhenyuan to release him.

After Master Zhenyuan released the Six-Eared Macaque from the Sleeve Universe, the Six-Eared Macaque first apologized and then rebuked him vigorously.

Master Zhenyuan grew angry and tried to seize the Six-Eared Macaque again, but this time, thanks to Bodhisattva Guanyin’s intervention, the Six-Eared Macaque was not captured.

However, he learned his lesson, knowing that Master Zhenyuan was not to be trifled with, and that a direct confrontation would not end well for him, so he refrained from further action.

By now, Chen Nuo had finished his conversation with the system. After this exchange, he felt that what the system had said seemed reasonable. However, he just needed to encounter four monsters, obtain their magic artifacts and then find a way to flee.

Afterward, he planned to go back to opening a milk tea shop, certain that with the Heavenly Secret Barrier, they would not be able to divine his whereabouts.

"Bodhisattva Guanyin, I have carefully considered what you told me earlier, and I think I could seriously consider this matter," Chen Nuo said.

Hearing this, Guanyin was overjoyed but still maintained her composure. She nodded and said, "Then share your thoughts with me."

"Well, if I accompany Xuanzang to the Western Heaven for scriptures, I want my identity to remain unchanged. I am still myself, it’s just that now I’m joining them as a fellow traveler on the Journey to the West for Scriptures. Can you accept this, Bodhisattva Guanyin?" Chen Nuo asked.

Bodhisattva Guanyin had already anticipated this when she first proposed the idea to Chen Nuo, as she could tell he was not the type to be someone’s disciple. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

If indeed this person could join Tang Monk on the journey to the Western Heaven for scriptures, the role of a fellow traveler was indeed the best identity, and such status would also spare him from being targeted by many monsters.

"This condition is not really a condition. It was also what I had intended," Bodhisattva Guanyin replied. "Do you have any other concerns, Mr. Chen? If so, please voice them."

"I do, and that’s that I don’t want any of those things you mentioned before," Chen Nuo said.

Guanyin was slightly surprised, and Master Zhenyuan, unable to hold back, directly asked, "Why not want them, Mr. Chen? That’s Merit Points we’re talking about. With enough Merit Points, you might even be able to cultivate to immortality. You just dismiss them, and what about your lifespan, don’t you want that either? Don’t you wish to live longer?"

"What’s so good about living longer?" Chen Nuo said the words contrary to what he felt, "For someone who loves to roam the mountains and rivers, if I lived too long, then I would have seen all the sights in the world by myself. After seeing all these sights, what else would there be left for me to see? Therefore, it’s better to live just to seventy or eighty years old. And after that, a bowl of Meng Po Soup will give me a new life in the next cycle."

This thinking was so open-minded it was almost too much so. Although he claimed to have no pursuits, what he said was indeed quite sensible.

"Mr. Chen, do you really not seek anything at all?" Xuanzang couldn’t help asking.
