Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 748 - 747: Six Ears Defeated by the Demon
Using his Divine Sense, the Six-Eared Macaque detected the demon’s location.
He said to Xuanzang, "Master, hold the reins of the white horse tight, I will go and meet this demon."
Xuanzang nodded his head and did not forget to say, "Wukong, be very careful!"
"Master, rest assured, your disciple will return shortly," replied the Six-Eared Macaque to Xuanzang.
Following his Spiritual Sense, he walked towards the demon’s location, spotted from afar a figure puffing its cheeks and blowing out air, unmistakably the demon.
From a distance, Chen Nuo and Sha Wujing were observing the situation, Sha Wujing, seeing the demon, knew it was formidable and worried the master and disciple might not be able to defeat it, couldn’t help asking, "Master, can the Six-Eared Macaque defeat that demon?"
"He cannot," answered Chen Nuo.
"What?" Sha Wujing, puzzled, said, "Since he can’t defeat it, shouldn’t we help them?"
"No need," said Chen Nuo, tilting his chin upward.
Sha Wujing followed the direction indicated by Chen Nuo but saw nothing and didn’t understand what his master was pointing out for him to see.
"Master, there’s nothing over there," Sha Wujing replied honestly, "What did you want me to see?"
"Over there are protectors," said Chen Nuo, "Protectors specifically tasked by Buddhism and the Heavenly Realm to safeguard Xuanzang; they surely wouldn’t let Xuanzang get injured."
Realizing this, Sha Wujing nodded and said no more.
Anyway, he was there to collect things with Chen Nuo; it was fine to ask questions when confused, but that was all he could do.
The Six-Eared Macaque had already approached the figure, "Who are you? Why are you stirring up this great wind?"
But no response came from the other side; the demon blew an even fiercer wind, and suddenly, the Six-Eared Macaque’s eyes were filled with sand, rendering him unable to open them.
Squinting his eyes, he rolled on the ground, the sand in his eyes felt as if being pricked by needles, altogether very uncomfortable.
Seeing the Six-Eared Macaque blinded by the sand, the demon stopped blowing wind and directly took Tang Monk to his cave abode.
Tang Monk was terrified; the demons inside spoke of eating his flesh, he didn’t know what was so tasty about his own flesh and just wished for his disciples to hurry and rescue him.
But with his eyes blinded by sand and the pain unbearable, leaving him unable to open them, the Six-Eared Macaque naturally didn’t know Xuanzang had been captured.
As he groped blindly forward, he suddenly bumped into someone. He hastily said, "Master, is that you, Master?"
"No, are you looking for your master?" the person asked while looking around and seeing no one, "Who are you looking for, I don’t see anyone?"
The question made the Six-Eared Macaque utterly confused; could it be he had accidentally asked a blind person?
"No, are you also unable to see?" the Six-Eared Macaque asked.
"Who said I can’t see? Clearly, there’s no one here but you," the person replied, "You came up babbling ’master, master’; I thought you were here to seek a master."
The Six-Eared Macaque frowned, "That’s not right, my master was clearly here, did you really not see my master?"
"What master? No," the person replied, "But what’s the matter with your eyes. Are you blind?"
The Six-Eared Macaque didn’t know who the person in front of him was, nor did he know whether the person was a benevolent man or a demon. But now, the only one he could ask for help was this person before him.
"I’m not blind; my eyes were just blown by that Yellow Wind, and then I couldn’t see."
"So it is," the man replied, "I thought you were blind to begin with. I have a secret recipe that can cure the blindness caused by the Yellow Wind. Wait a moment, and I’ll apply it for you."
Even though he did not know who the person facing him was, the Six-Eared Macaque realized that this was the only person he could reach out to, so he had no choice but to let him help.
After waiting a while, the man took something out and spread it on the Six-Eared Macaque’s eyes, saying, "After I apply this, just close your eyes and sleep, and you’ll be fine. Don’t worry, this place is very safe."
"What about my master?" asked the Six-Eared Macaque.
Without knowing where his master was, the Six-Eared Macaque truly couldn’t sleep.
Yet the man did not answer and merely applied something to his eyes before leaving.
This person was none other than the Red-clad Fairy, the leader of the Seven Fairies, carrying out the Jade Emperor’s order to assist the Six-Eared Macaque. Once the Quest for the Scriptures in the Western Heaven was completed, she too would gain Merit Points.
She was only responsible for this matter; she had nothing to do with the rest, so after applying the medicine to the Six-Eared Macaque, she left.
The Six-Eared Macaque woke up after sleeping, opened his eyes, and indeed, he could see everything. However, he was still in the same place he had been yesterday, empty and deserted, with only himself there.
Knowing that he couldn’t delay any longer, the Six-Eared Macaque headed straight to the Heavenly Realm to seek help.
Chen Nuo watched as the Six-Eared Macaque ascended to the Heavenly Realm, knowing he intended to borrow the Wind-Calming Pill from Lingji Bodhisattva. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
He had waited so long for this very Wind-Calming Pill, but as accessible as it was, he still needed a legitimate reason to obtain it.
Taking advantage of the Six-Eared Macaque’s journey to borrow the Wind-Calming Pill, Chen Nuo began thinking of a way to acquire it.
Stealing it directly was not impossible, but it was not exactly honorable, nor in Chen Nuo’s style, so he instantly dismissed this option.
Like the last time with the kasaya, swapping it out secretly was feasible, but he had already used that tactic once, and it had its drawbacks. Chen Nuo was not keen on trying it again, so he had to scrap that idea as well.
The third method was to have Lingji Bodhisattva give him the Wind-Calming Pill voluntarily.
This would indeed solve the problem once and for all, but Chen Nuo was not exactly unfamiliar with Lingji Bodhisattva; he did not know him at all.
Furthermore, given Buddhism’s inherent prejudice against Chaos Residence, Chen Nuo could not be sure if Lingji Bodhisattva would share the same bias, and if that were the case, he would have to change his plan again.
The Six-Eared Macaque’s borrowing of the Wind-Calming Pill from above was quick. Although Xuanzang was under the protection of his guards and unlikely to run into any major trouble, ever since his Journey to the West began, many things hadn’t gone according to Buddhism’s expectations, so any issue that could be dealt with promptly should be addressed immediately.
After waiting for three hours, the Six-Eared Macaque returned from the Heavenly Realm with the Wind-Calming Pill.
Chen Nuo had almost dozed off waiting, but when he saw the Six-Eared Macaque descend, his eyes brightened—there it was!
During this lengthy period, Chen Nuo had already thought of a way to take the Wind-Calming Pill.
He followed the Six-Eared Macaque, who headed to confront the Yellow Wind Demon, holding the Wind-Calming Pill.
The Yellow Wind Demon was inside his cave abode fussing over eating the flesh of Tang Monk when he suddenly heard someone cursing at the entrance to the mountain. Furious, he ordered the lesser demons to guard Tang Monk well, grabbed his weapon, and went out.
Seeing the Six-Eared Macaque, the Yellow Wind Demon laughed so hard his eyes nearly disappeared, "I thought it was someone formidable, but it’s just you, you macaca. You’re lucky; your eyes weren’t blinded by my wind. Well, wait and see; this time I’ll definitely blind you!"
