"Alright, now the monster is completely defeated," Chen Nuo dusted off his hands, looking toward the Six-Eared Macaque and Xuanzang, "How about it, you two okay? Didn’t get scared, did you?"

Xuanzang shook his head; as a puppet of this world, he lacked a mind and thoughts, completely a product of the dream.

After dealing with the demon, Chen Nuo looked at the Six-Eared Macaque, "What’s going on with you? Your master is in danger, and as his disciple, why aren’t you helping him? What’s the meaning of just standing around?"

Pretending to be still in shock, the Six-Eared Macaque exclaimed, "Ah, it was truly terrifying just now, I was too shocked to react and help you. Are you alright, General? If anything had happened to you, we would be the ones responsible."

"What nonsense are you spouting? The monster has been dealt with, and only now you’re asking if I’m okay? You have the gall to ask if I was asleep when I woke up, or if I had eaten while I’m eating, and see if the people around don’t give you a beating," huffed Chen Nuo. "What a ridiculous question to ask. You can’t even ask properly, what kind of disciple are you?"

The expression in the eyes of the Six-Eared Macaque dimmed significantly, apparently quite disgruntled by Chen Nuo’s words. In truth, he chuckled, feigning indifference.

"I was just scared out of my wits, too frightened to speak. I knew following my master might lead to encountering demons, but I never expected to meet one so terrifying," he said.

Chen Nuo felt like laughing upon hearing the Six-Eared Macaque’s words, wondering what Tang Xuanzang would think if he knew his disciples spoke about him this way; he was sure he would give them a good lesson if he found out.

"What? Really?" Chen Nuo feigned great surprise, turning his gaze back to Xuanzang.

The puppet Xuanzang nodded, affirming the statement.

Chen Nuo, astonished, looked at Xuanzang and his disciple again, "So, along the way here, you really encountered demons?"

"Yes, we’ve met many demons," the Six-Eared Macaque replied, "but they were all minor ones. It’s just today we encountered a big one. All these demons were targeting my master."

Chen Nuo looked at Tang Xuanzang in surprise, "Does the master really possess such a constitution that attracts demons?"

"I’m not sure why, but ever since leaving Chang’an, I’ve encountered demons frequently. Before, they were all minor demons, and with my disciples, we managed them quite well, but I did not expect to encounter such a terrifying demon today. Perhaps the demons we meet in the future will be even more dreadful," Xuanzang recited unemotionally, exactly as the Six-Eared Macaque had rehearsed with him.

The Six-Eared Macaque nodded earnestly, chuckling inwardly. Now that he had experienced such terror, surely Chen Nuo would think better of it and retreat.

"Did you encounter demons right after leaving Chang’an?" Chen Nuo asked.

Xuanzang nodded, "Yes, I don’t know what is going on with these demons. My disciple says they are all targeting me."

"So that’s how it is?" Chen Nuo stroked his chin, pondering for a while before raising his head, "That’s not right, Master. When you came to Chang’an before, we had met, hadn’t we? Why didn’t I feel anything then, but after leaving Chang’an, we always encounter demons?"

Xuanzang fell silent too.

The Six-Eared Macaque glanced at Sun Wukong warily. How could he foresee all this? Ordinary mortals in such situations should be terrified, unable to walk steadily, yet he could still think so clearly.

Moreover, this was in a dream. This mortal could think things through so thoroughly in a dream. Was he really just a mortal?

Chen Nuo’s expression remained cool, waiting quietly for an answer, confident that the other party wouldn’t detect his true identity.

"This monk, this monk does not know why," Xuanzang spoke, "However, it’s said that this monk is not ordinary. Eating my flesh can replenish a lot of spiritual power; hence, these demons all want to eat me."

"I see, so previously when we were on the road, and we didn’t encounter demons, it might be because they had not realized that eating your flesh could grant immortality. They know now," Chen Nuo offered his speculation.

Xuanzang nodded and brought his palms together, murmuring "Amitabha".

This Xuanzang indeed resembled the Xuanzang from real life, except a bit more dull; there was no other difference. It seems the Six-Eared Macaque understood Xuanzang pretty well.

"No worries, my original duty was to ensure the peace of the borderlands. Now, it is to protect your safety, Master. No matter what we encounter on the way, I will absolutely not leave just like that," Chen Nuo said.

This was exactly the opposite of what the Six-Eared Macaque had intended; he had originally wanted to scare this mortal, yet somehow it aroused his sense of duty instead.
