Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 665 - 664: Begin Tasting the Cake
Chen Nuo had originally intended to change the subject, but to his surprise, Yang Chan willingly went along with the new topic he had just brought up.
This was better, sparing him the embarrassment.
As Chen Nuo was about to carry the monster away, Nuwa, who was standing behind him, suddenly noticed something and hurriedly called out to him. "Shopkeeper Chen, please wait a moment."
"What’s the matter?" Chen Nuo asked, unsure of what Nuwa wanted to do.
"It seems that the demon core has not been removed from this monster," Nuwa said, then looked towards Yang Chan, "You captured the monster, yet you didn’t know to take out the demon core? I don’t know whether to call this carelessness or a waste of heavenly resources,"
Chen Nuo’s movements stopped. Yang Chan had indeed mentioned the demon core to him earlier, but an incident occurred in the meantime that had caused him to completely forget about it.
Nuwa’s words reminded him of this matter.
"Look at my memory, I actually forgot about this. I’m aware of the demon core, the Third Holy Mother had already told me about it when she brought the monster over. She said she would leave the demon core here. I was so busy with cooking the monster meat that I forgot about it entirely."
This lie sounded even more clumsy, but Nuwa didn’t suspect a thing; it seemed she had never even contemplated that Chen Nuo would lie to her, no matter how small the matter.
Chen Nuo signaled Sun Wukong to entertain Nuwa and Yang Chan, then he took the monster into the kitchen to start processing it.
When it comes to roasting, charcoal grilling is definitely the best. It not only cooks the food thoroughly but also adds a smoky flavor that’s quite delicious.
Without delay, Chen Nuo handled the monster even more meticulously, then set it up on the charcoal grill.
Once the monster meat was completely roasted, Chen Nuo cut the food into several bite-sized portions, arranged them on a plate, and then carried the plate out of the kitchen.
Laughter filled the main hall, primarily from Yang Chan, Xuan Feng, and Sun Wukong.
Sun Wukong had a knack for charming others, and combined with Nuwa and Yang Chan’s fondness for Chen Nuo, naturally extended courtesies towards Sun Wukong as well.
While waiting for Chen Nuo to cook, Sun Wukong had all three immortal ladies beaming with joy.
Chen Nuo showed no change in expression; he didn’t seem to mind.
In fact, Chen Nuo really didn’t mind; after all, this was his disciple. It was an achievement for him to bring so much joy to two powerful goddesses, Chen Nuo was truly delighted, and there was no reason for him to be upset about his disciple’s ability to make others happy.
Indeed, others. At least in Chen Nuo’s mind, even if the two goddesses had a bit of fondness, they were still others.
Only his disciple belonged to him. Seeing Sun Wukong with such a skill brought genuine joy to Chen Nuo.
But while delight was one thing, the food was now ready, and it was time to wrap up the pre-meal entertainment.
When Chen Nuo came in, he thoughtfully knocked on the door as a courtesy, waiting for the two goddesses inside to get ready before he entered with the food.
"Charcoal-grilled monster meat, paired with refreshing sparkling water," Chen Nuo introduced as he placed the dishes in front of Nuwa and Yang Chan.
Because the main dish for today wasn’t rice but the dessert after the meal, the cuisine wasn’t very impressive to the two who already knew what flavor it would be.
Of course, the monster meat was already very tasty, and after Chen Nuo’s culinary touch, the grilled meat was definitely even more delicious than its original flavor.
Even though she already knew what the dish would taste like, Yang Chan still eagerly picked up a piece of grilled meat and put it in her mouth, her eyes instantly widening as she did so.
While the meat was already quite delicious, once Chen Nuo took over the grilling, its flavor climbed several notches higher.
Such meticulously processed and perfectly heat-controlled grilled meat naturally couldn’t be matched by their original, quickly handled roast following a hunt.
The grilled meat’s crust, exuding the scent of char, even seemed to have been fried in oil due to the fat seeping out during grilling, adding a savory depth to the flavor.
Xuan Feng had initially refused to eat the meat since the monster was of the same lineage as herself.
But after watching Yang Chan eat with such relish, she swallowed and said to Chen Nuo, "Shopkeeper Chen, I was wrong, this does look delicious. Pretend you didn’t hear what I said before, and give me a portion as well."
Chen Nuo was going to prepare three portions originally, but Xuan Feng stopped him at the last minute, refusing to eat on the grounds of sharing lineage with the monster.
When she refused, Nuwa tried to persuade her, but Xuan Feng looked genuinely disinterested, so no one could say much, and a portion wasn’t prepared for her.
Now craving it, yet Chen Nuo wasn’t the type to accommodate whims.
"Gone," Chen Nuo replied, "When I cook, I definitely look at how many are eating first, and then grill accordingly. Since you said you didn’t want any before, I truly didn’t prepare your share, and there’s none left now if you’ve changed your mind."
And Chen Nuo’s reasoning was quite sound, leaving Xuan Feng feeling aggrieved, yet unable to say more.
Nuwa, after all, was her master and offered to give up some of her own portion for Xuan Feng.
Seeing this, Yang Chan also offered to give up part of her portion to Xuan Feng.
Chen Nuo didn’t stop them but also didn’t bring out an extra portion of meat from the kitchen for Xuan Feng.
Even though there was plenty of roasted meat left in the kitchen, as Chen Nuo said, his place wasn’t somewhere you could eat or not eat on a whim.
He was a chef, and this was indeed a restaurant.
But since he was selling his craft, there had to be some temperament involved; otherwise, how could he be called a master?
Having received her share of the meat, Xuan Feng stopped her fussing and began eating contentedly, picking up the meat with her hands.
Nuwa and Yang Chan exchanged smiles and lowered their heads to their own meals. The scene was harmonious, like a gathering of sisters, not at all like rivals dining together.
The three of them ate much faster this time. Although the main course tonight was this, the main event wasn’t here yet.
After finishing the meal, the three looked forward to when Chen Nuo would serve the dessert.
Chen Nuo had already selected a few desserts in the dessert house and was just waiting to serve them. As soon as they finished eating, Chen Nuo was ready to bring out the desserts.
The first on the table was a strawberry mousse cake. Initially, Chen Nuo had prepared a Black Forest cake, but since none of them had ever tasted chocolate, it would surely prompt a barrage of questions if served first. It was better to start with other desserts.
After they tasted and enjoyed them, they would certainly look forward to the other desserts.
Chen Nuo always considered all possibilities when planning, but in fact, even if he were less thorough and just introduced the dish briefly on serving, everyone would trust without hesitation that any food he made was delicious.
When the exquisite strawberry mousse cake was presented to the table, all three of them were transfixed.
"So beautiful, is this really edible? How can it look so good?"
