Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 664 - 663 Chen Nuo Has No Such Intention
It was truly unexpected that Chen Nuo needed only two sentences to resolve the conflict between the two.
Nuwa’s admiration for Chen Nuo grew even more. She looked at him standing under the tree, his face wearing an appropriate smile, his posture upright, and his features handsome. How could anyone not like him?
"Ahem, it’s good that you know this. After all, you are a distinguished goddess in the Heavenly Realm, and there are many things you should consider for yourself," said the Third Holy Mother.
With Chen Nuo having spoken, it was up to her to uphold that level of prestige.
The Third Holy Mother didn’t catch the subtleties in the conversation, and she thanked Nuwa with a bow, "Thank you, Goddess Nuwa, for your teaching. Yang Chan will remember this."
However, with things having turned out this way, Yang Chan felt too embarrassed to mention leaving, so she decided to stay, albeit thick-faced.
The monster that Yang Chan had captured was a quadruped that had been processed already; one could only estimate what it was, as its true form was unrecognizable.
Nuwa had not paid attention to this creature at first, but as they were walking back to the living room, she got sidetracked by Xuan Feng, and that was when she noticed the processed monster.
But after all, Lady Nuwa was Lady Nuwa. Having lived on earth for tens of millions of years, she only needed a second glance to recognize what the monster was.
"Is this a Shang Bird or a Fu Bird?" Nuwa asked.
Yang Chan nodded, "I was passing by the village below, and although this bird wasn’t harming the villagers, it was extremely loud and its cries were long and piercing. It disturbed the nearby villages, preventing people from sleeping. I just happened to be passing by when the local believers sought help, so I lent them a hand."
"This monster," Nuwa paused, indeed it was nothing memorable, "is said to taste quite good, and moreover, it is very invigorating to eat."
"Really?" Chen Nuo became interested.
He knew that coffee and tea were stimulating, but monster meat too? If such was the case, humans would greatly increase their efficiency if they could taste this bird’s meat.
"That’s correct, but it’s not so easy for mortals to have a taste," Nuwa explained. "Apart from the fact that this bird, although noisy, is particularly hard to catch with its six legs and three pairs of wings, making it incredibly fast, ordinary humans simply can’t catch it."
"Moreover, even though eating this monster’s meat can be invigorating, it is just that, invigorating. Mortals, after all, are still mortals; if they work endlessly without rest, they will still be worked to death."
This was true; even in today’s world with so many energizing tools available, there were still numerous cases of people dying suddenly from overwork.
"Lucky for us, we’re not mortals," Chen Nuo joked. "Otherwise, paying the price of one’s life for a taste of monster meat would truly not be worth it."
"However, if the one cooking is Shopkeeper Chen," Nuwa said, not knowing why she suddenly felt like continuing Chen Nuo’s line of thought, "then even paying a price wouldn’t be an issue for me."
Chen Nuo looked at Nuwa, who returned his gaze with a deep, passionate look.
She seldom spoke so plainly, seeming both joking and serious at the same time.
Chen Nuo was initially unable to withstand such a direct look and cleared his throat, shifting his gaze away.
She had thrown a fastball, which was difficult to catch.
"Lady Nuwa truly knows how to jest. My meals may not be expensive, but you are an immortal who can influence the whole world. I can’t compare my meal to your eminence," Chen Nuo replied, attempting to steer the conversation elsewhere with a more serious tone.
Nuwa also felt somewhat shy because of the too straightforward words she had just spoken, especially with two irrelevant people present.
What on earth was going on with her? It was only in Chen Nuo’s presence that she displayed such an array of impossibilities.
"Uh, haha, I was just joking just now. But Shopkeeper Chen, your meal is certainly worth a lot, so don’t sell yourself short," Nuwa laughed it off and quickly steered the conversation away.
Yang Chan breathed a sigh of relief, while Xuan Feng held his breath.
Yang Chan had thought that Chen Nuo and Goddess Nuwa were about to develop feelings for each other. Although they did seem quite compatible, she was the one who had liked Chen Nuo first. If Goddess Nuwa really ended up with Chen Nuo, wouldn’t that mean she had no reason to see him anymore?
Xuan Feng almost spat out a mouthful of old blood; the atmosphere earlier was clearly off, almost to the point of bubbling with pink romance. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
Goddess Nuwa should have pressed her advantage, taken the moment to drop another bombshell, and properly confessed her feelings to Chen Nuo. Why, at the last minute, did she change her tune?
Compared to Xuan Feng’s frustration, Nuwa seemed totally unaware of the implications.
She could solve other people’s problems so easily, but when it came to her own, it wasn’t as simple.
She felt shame because of her overly direct words just now and was also afraid of a direct rejection from Chen Nuo, especially in front of so many people; that was something she wanted to avoid at all costs.
Chen Nuo was also feeling a bit fearful. He had truly not considered the prospect of romance in this world.
He had thought about what he wanted to do, but never about falling in love. If Nuwa had indeed confessed her feelings right then and there, Chen Nuo would have found himself in a very awkward situation.
If he rejected Nuwa, especially in front of so many people, it would certainly be embarrassing for her.
Not to mention whether she would turn from love to hate—just how she would manage to leave the scene presented a problem in itself.
If he did not reject Nuwa, Chen Nuo paused, but it seemed impossible. He truly had not considered falling in love yet, so rejection wasn’t an option.
"I didn’t expect Lady Nuwa to make such jokes," Chen Nuo said with a smile.
It was a confirmation that what Nuwa had said was indeed in jest. He then added, "I’ll take the monster meat for now and grill it later. Just a sprinkle of spices is enough, to keep its original flavor, which is the least I can do to appreciate the effort Third Holy Mother took to bring it here."
This way, nobody was snubbed or offended.
Nuwa sighed inwardly. He was polite to everyone, which was probably why so many people liked him.
But to claim this kindness for oneself alone seemed to require a great deal of effort.
Yang Chan’s thoughts were simpler. It was well-known that she wasn’t a deep thinker, and she only saw things on the surface. Hearing that Chen Nuo would cook the monster meat made her unimaginably happy.
"That’s wonderful, Shopkeeper Chen! You’re exactly on the same page as me! I was just about to say that the best way to enjoy this monster meat is simply to grill it. You truly have a chef’s talent to instantly recognize that this meat is meant to be grilled," Yang Chan exclaimed.
Nuwa glanced at Yang Chan’s jubilant expression and suddenly felt that getting angry over a couple of mistaken words was not worth it.
Getting upset over a god so simple-minded, she didn’t know if it was Yang Chan who was childish or if she was the childish one.
