Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 459 Nuwa Decides to Help He Xi
"Chen, this sister is a very good sister, you must be with her!"
As Nuwa was slowly walking towards Chen Nuo, she stumbled upon hearing this sentence. This silly child, that was not the kind of good word she had intended.
Chen Nuo had been wondering how Nuwa could use some method to make He Xi no longer hostile towards her, but she hadn’t expected that in just a moment’s time, the child would be coaxed into complete compliance.
"No, I didn’t tell her to say that," Nuwa quickly explained.
"Ah, sister, aren’t the good words you said like this?" He Xi blinked, turning her head to ask Nuwa.
The situation was already awkward, and He Xi’s question only added to the awkwardness in the air.
After all, the only one feeling embarrassed was Nuwa, her face flushed red, too preoccupied with how to explain things to Chen Nuo, completely forgetting to first calm her complexion with a spell.
"No, oh my, you, stop talking," Nuwa said.
What made it even more helpless for her was the fact that the child had been adopted by Chen Nuo, not Xuan Feng. If it were Xuan Feng, Nuwa might have made her shut her mouth in an emergency.
But facing this child, she couldn’t, and could only watch as the embarrassing words came out of her mouth.
"Okay, sister, you told me to stop talking, so I’ll stop," He Xi immediately closed her mouth and said no more, but her lively eyes still wandered back and forth between them.
"I..."
Nuwa was about to explain when Chen Nuo stopped her, "Your face, you should control it with a spell." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"Ah?"
Nuwa hadn’t yet grasped what Chen Nuo meant.
"Your face." Chen Nuo pointed to his own face with a smile in his eyes and a curl at the corner of his mouth. His voice was very magnetic, but the words he spoke were embarrassing for Nuwa.
"It’s very red."
Only then did Nuwa realize what was going on. She reached out to touch her face and restored it to normal with a spell, but she couldn’t bring herself to speak the explanation. In this situation, any explanation would be futile, so it would be better not to explain at all.
"It seems I underestimated you," Chen Nuo said.
"Ah?" Nuwa was puzzled, "What do you mean?"
"I originally thought you would come out of Xi’s room in a furious rage, or perhaps, Xi would come out of her own room with red eyes," Chen Nuo said with a smile. "I didn’t understand you well enough. It’s truly fitting for Nuwa; after all, it’s just a child, and you surely could coax her well."
"Chen, how can you think about the pretty sister like that!" He Xi pouted, "This sister is very nice, I really like her."
"Really?" Chen Nuo teased, "How come I didn’t see you liking her that much when you first met?"
"You noticed?" Nuwa said in surprise.
"Of course, I noticed," Chen Nuo replied.
From the beginning, Chen Nuo had seen that He Xi was hostile towards Nuwa, but he hadn’t said anything because he felt it was their business, and bringing it up directly from the start might have made things unpleasant.
"Chen, it’s so mean of you to have seen the problem between me and the sister but not say anything," He Xi said, hands on hips.
"If I had pointed it out from the beginning, I’m afraid there would still be tension between you two even years from now," Chen Nuo explained. "I figured it was better to let you work it out on your own. Look, isn’t the relationship between you and this sister good now?"
He Xi later thought about it and felt that Chen Nuo’s words did seem to make sense, so she didn’t say anything more.
By this time, noon had almost passed, and Nuwa was still thinking about fulfilling He Xi’s wish, so she didn’t plan to stay long. After saying goodbye to Chen Nuo, she hurriedly left.
Of course, her eagerness to leave wasn’t just about fulfilling He Xi’s wish, but mainly because she had lost face in a big way, and retreat was the best course of action.
Once back at home, Nuwa finally released the restriction on Xuan Feng. "Do you realize your mistake?"
Xuan Feng stood obediently, head bowed, without speaking.
"Do I need to ask you again?" Nuwa asked sternly.
"I was only thinking of you, Your Highness. I’m not good with words to begin with, but when Shopkeeper Chen demanded an apology to that mortal, it truly was compromising your dignity. I, I just couldn’t bear it," Xuan Feng explained with a sense of grievance.
Nuwa looked at Xuan Feng, knowing his character all too well after all these years. She sighed deeply, "Enough, knowing the kind of person you are, it’s my own fault for bringing you along."
"Your Highness!" Xuan Feng suddenly exclaimed.
Nuwa was taken aback by his outburst. Her willow-shaped eyebrows raised, her phoenix eyes widened in surprise as she looked at Xuan Feng, "What are you yelling for all of a sudden?"
"Please punish me!" Xuan Feng said. "You were never like this before. Even now, you’re changing your ways for that Chen, and I just can’t bear to see you change yourself for someone else. Please punish me instead!"
Nuwa thought Xuan Feng was up to something, only to realize he wanted to say this to her.
With a long finger, Nuwa tapped Xuan Feng’s forehead, "This change isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I’ve always been so rigid, and it’s tiring. Besides, times are changing, and it’s not right to always lack humanity."
"Your Highness," Xuan Feng said with a pitiful expression.
"What, I hadn’t noticed that you liked to be punished. Otherwise, I’d communicate with the Jade Emperor right now and have you stay in the Heavenly Prison for ten days or half a month to have your fill, how about that?" Nuwa said with a scoff.
In a panic, Xuan Feng quickly waved his hands and shook his head, "No, no, that’s not what I mean. It’s good if you can change, and I think what you said is very reasonable. So, Your Highness, didn’t you say you wanted to drink milk tea? I’ll go buy it for you right away."
Xuan Feng was about to leave but was frozen in place by Nuwa. He looked at her with pitiful eyes, "Your Highness, I was wrong. I’ll never dare do it again. I don’t want to go to the Heavenly Prison, please."
"Alright, I’m not really going to send you to the Heavenly Prison. However, I do have something else I need your help with," Nuwa said.
"Something else?" Xuan Feng thought but couldn’t come up with anything. "Your Highness, is there anything more important than getting you milk tea?"
"There is," Nuwa nodded. "I want you to go to the underworld and look for someone for me."
"To the underworld to look for someone?" Xuan Feng was stunned, unable to imagine who would require her to go to the underworld.
As she was about to ask who it was, Xuan Feng suddenly had a stroke of insight. She looked up in shock, "Your Highness, you’re not planning to have me find that mortal child’s relatives in the underworld, are you?"
"How odd, I’ve never seen you be so clever," Nuwa said with a rising corner of her mouth. "Yes, that’s right."
"Your Highness, you shouldn’t go to such lengths just to please a mortal!"
Xuan Feng continued, "This really goes against common sense. If an ordinary divine official did this, they’d be punished by the heavens. As Goddess Nuwa, you should be setting an example."
"Look at you, jumping to conclusions," Nuwa said with a smile. "I’m just asking you to find out into what species that child’s mother has reincarnated. I won’t do anything else."
"But still, that shouldn’t be done!" Xuan Feng insisted. "Once mortals have passed away and reincarnated, they have no connection with their former selves. What you’re proposing doesn’t follow the rules, it just can’t be done, Your Highness!"
