Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 444: Deciding to Check It Out Personally
Fairy Baihua had just finished speaking and was about to leave, but Sun Wukong had already sensed that the matter was not as simple as it seemed. He hastily stopped Fairy Baihua, "Fairy, you haven’t made things clear to your old brother Wukong, you can’t just leave like that, no, you must first explain to your old brother before you can go!"
"It’s not a big deal, there are too many people talking here." Fairy Baihua said.
Sun Wukong immediately understood what Fairy Baihua meant and turned to Tian Peng, "Tian Peng, you stay here and help me look after things, your brother Wukong will be right back."
"Don’t worry, Mr. Monkey, I’ve got it covered here." Tian Peng replied.
Sun Wukong and Fairy Baihua found a quieter place. After checking that there were no people around, Sun Wukong asked, "Fairy, there’s no one around, tell me, what did you see when my master came to you?"
"Do you know that your master was once betrothed?" Fairy Baihua asked.
"My master was once betrothed?" Sun Wukong scratched his head, "My master has never mentioned this to me. Hey, Fairy, don’t play coy, tell me, what exactly did you see?"
"When I was in the Human World, I saw in the courtyard where Shopkeeper Chen lives, there was a child sleeping." Fairy Baihua said.
"What?!" Sun Wukong exclaimed, "You, you really saw?"
His tone was so surprised that Fairy Baihua couldn’t tell if Sun Wukong was astonished because she had seen the child or because Chen Nuo had a child.
Fairy Baihua nodded affirmatively, "I did see, Shopkeeper Chen even built two small houses for her, the child looked to be about seven or eight years old, sleeping inside."
"So that’s what it was." Sun Wukong was very surprised, his master had never told him about this.
However, as much as Fairy Baihua was an outsider, if his master let Fairy Baihua see, there must be his own plan, and he should not make any excessive actions that could arouse suspicion.
Seeing that Sun Wukong did not react, Fairy Baihua tentatively asked, "Chef Wukong, do you know about this matter?"
"Ah, that child." Sun Wukong deliberately said half a sentence, leaving the rest to the imagination.
He laughed and said, "This is my master’s private matter, as his disciple, I cannot discuss my master’s affairs with outsiders."
His ambiguous attitude gave Fairy Baihua nothing to go on, she couldn’t extract any useful information and asked again, "Then Chef Wukong, do you know or not?"
"I’ve said it, this is my master’s private affair." Sun Wukong’s tone became slightly more serious, no longer willing to continue the dialogue, "The milk tea shop is very busy, and Tian Peng can’t manage alone, I’m going to help him now, Fairy, thank you for helping my master."
"Ah, Chef Wu..."
Sun Wukong didn’t listen to what Fairy Baihua had to say, turning around and leaving.
Upon returning to the shop, Sun Wukong was restless, unable to sit or stand still, pacing back and forth inside the shop.
He wanted to ask Chen Nuo but feared disturbing him; Tian Peng was busy making beverages for customers, and turned around to find Sun Wukong pacing inside the shop.
Tian Peng complained, "Mr. Monkey, what are you doing? Can’t you come and help out? I’m really a bit overwhelmed here."
Sun Wukong gave Tian Peng a sharp glare, "What now, you want to boss me around?"
Tian Peng paused, "Oh, Mr. Monkey, I didn’t mean that, look, I’m fine now, please continue with what you’re doing."
Though Sun Wukong said this, he still came over to help with the drinks. There were many divine officials queuing up, but there would always be a time to close up shop.
By the time evening approached, Sun Wukong flipped the sign at the front door and said, "We’re closed, come back tomorrow."
The divine official who was next in line felt slighted, "How can you not wait a little longer since it’s almost my turn? Why not finish with me before closing, I’m willing to pay extra."
Sun Wukong knocked on the sign impatiently, "We’re closed."
The Immortal Official had no choice but to leave.
After closing the door, Tian Peng asked, "Mr. Monkey, what did Fairy Baihua come for? I saw you come back all restless, what’s really going on?"
"Ah, it’s nothing serious," Sun Wukong said, sighing. Then, he added, "Upon further thought, it seems like it might be a big deal."
Tian Peng, growing more anxious, hurried him along, "Mr. Monkey, just spit it out. One moment it’s not a big deal, the next it is."
"It’s something I heard from the Fairy, not sure if it’s true or not, but I can’t go asking about it. If it’s true, I’m afraid I might choose the wrong time to visit and disturb my master," Sun Wukong replied.
Tian Peng grew even more impatient, "Just tell me, Mr. Monkey, what is it?"
"It seems my master has found me a... a master’s wife," Sun Wukong said.
Tian Peng breathed a sigh of relief, "Ah, I thought it was something serious. So your master found you a master’s wife, wait, does that mean we’re getting a mistress?!"
"Such rumors lack credibility; it’s still better to ask," Sun Wukong said.
"Then go ask," Tian Peng said, "When was this? I didn’t know about it this morning, how suddenly a mistress appears."
"You went this morning, how much time has passed since then? A whole year has gone by in the Human World," Sun Wukong said. "Even if a child popped out in the meantime, it wouldn’t be surprising..."
As he spoke, Sun Wukong suddenly stopped. Fairy Baihua had mentioned that the child was already seven or eight years old in appearance, yet his master had only been to the mortal realm for a few days, how could a seven or eight-year-old child just appear out of thin air.
"What’s up, Mr. Monkey? Did you think of something?"
Fairy Baihua didn’t seem to be lying, but something definitely wasn’t adding up.
Sun Wukong ignored Tian Peng’s question, mulling over Fairy Baihua’s words. If Fairy Baihua wasn’t lying and his master had never mentioned any child, then there was only one truth.
"What is it, Mr. Monkey? What’s the matter, tell me, I’m dying of curiosity here," said Tian Peng, completely baffled and urging Sun Wukong on.
"Heh heh heh," Sun Wukong suddenly burst into laughter.
This left Tian Peng even more confused, "What are you laughing about so cheerfully? Just tell me what you figured out."
"My master played Fairy Baihua," Sun Wukong said, chuckling.
"Huh? Played what?" Tian Peng asked, "Why would Shopkeeper dupe Fairy Baihua?"
"It’s probably because my master met a child while he was in the Human World, and this child was in my master’s yard. Fairy Baihua happened to visit my master then and saw the child, making her believe my master had a child," Sun Wukong explained with a laugh. "And then my master, too lazy to explain, just went along with it."
After hearing Sun Wukong’s explanation, Tian Peng mostly understood, "But I’m still a bit confused; Fairy Baihua has nothing to do with Shopkeeper, whether he has a child or not is none of her business, why is she so worked up?"
"Blockhead!" Sun Wukong smacked Tian Peng on the head, "Calling you a blockhead is right—you really are one. Fairy Baihua is so concerned precisely because she cares about my master."
