Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 406 Nuwa Actually Wants to Cut in Line
Yang Chan bowed deeply to Nuwa, "Yang Chan has some affairs to attend to, so I shall take my leave now."
After Yang Chan left, Xuan Feng said dissatisfiedly, "Goddess Nuwa, that Little Immortal has barely a thousand years of cultivation, yet she dares to confront you. Why didn’t you teach her a lesson, but instead talked to her about fair competition?"
"You don’t understand," Nuwa glanced at Xuan Feng. "I haven’t even settled the score with you for bullying others earlier."
"Goddess Nuwa, why did you come here instead of going to my master’s Chaos Residence?" Sun Wukong asked with a smile. "There’s nothing here, and besides, my master would never come here whether he has business or not."
At the mention of this, Nuwa’s expression changed. Since the last time she mistakenly thought Chen Nuo was going to confess to her, she hadn’t visited Chaos Residence at all, not even ordered takeout.
"Our goddess..." Xuan Feng started to speak in a raised voice, but then suddenly remembered Nuwa’s earlier warning and held back her words.
Nuwa looked at Xuan Feng, "Go on, why don’t you speak when you should, and insist on speaking when you shouldn’t?"
Xuan Feng lowered her head, not knowing when it was the right time to speak and when it was not.
Seeing that Xuan Feng remained silent, Nuwa coughed, "Grounded."
"Chaos Residence has been incredibly busy recently, and our Goddess Nuwa always finds it impossible to make a reservation. Could you perhaps help our goddess apply for a special reservation?"
As soon as she heard the word ’grounded,’ Xuan Feng immediately spilled everything Nuwa had instructed her upon arriving.
"Special reservation?" Sun Wukong looked confused. "What special reservation? Chaos Residence has never had any special reservations, and besides, if Goddess Nuwa wants to eat, she can just order directly from the takeout machine. Except for ’Buddha Jumps Over the Wall,’ everything else is available."
"You dummy," Xuan Feng snorted. "If there’s no such condition, can’t you create it? If there’s no special reservation, can’t you make one?"
"What’s wrong with you, silly bird? Who do you think you are to scold me, Sun Wukong?" Sun Wukong glared at Xuan Feng.
"What’s wrong with you, monkey? I am a phoenix! A phoenix!" Xuan Feng also got agitated. "I speak to you nicely, and you don’t understand. With the status of our Goddess Nuwa, why can’t you make an exception for her? "
"What’s so special about ’special status’? It’s just cutting in line!" Sun Wukong scoffed.
Indeed, she was here to cut in line, and not only that, she sought special treatment.
Expecting Chen Nuo to spare an entire afternoon or morning to accommodate Nuwa was an impossibility that didn’t even bear thinking about.
Nuwa felt too embarrassed to admit she was here to cut in line; she also wanted to seize the opportunity to have a proper explanation with Chen Nuo, with eating being a secondary concern.
"So, can you do it or not?" Xuan Feng cut straight to the point.
"No." Without hesitation, Sun Wukong immediately refused. "Our Chaos Residence has had this rule since its inception, and it has never been broken. Moreover, I will not break this rule for anyone."
"Why are you so stubborn?" Xuan Feng looked at Sun Wukong.
"Why are you so stubborn?" Sun Wukong retorted. "Since you’ve thought of coming here to cut in line, you might as well spend this time making a proper reservation with my master."
"You..." Xuan Feng wanted to say something else but didn’t know what to say.
"Alright, since Sun Wukong can’t agree to this, let’s not force him," Nuwa said.
"Goddess," Xuan Feng looked at Nuwa unhappily. "You’re too easy-going. You’re Goddess Nuwa, after all. Speaking of which, without you, these people wouldn’t be here, nor would this monkey. Yet he had the audacity to be rude to you. That’s just not right."
Indeed, many would welcome the mention of such grand accomplishments, and Nuwa was no exception, but that was only toward outsiders.
As for Sun Wukong and Chen Nuo, Nuwa didn’t really like being reminded of this aspect of her identity; after all, she was essentially the mother of all mortals, but she had feelings for Chen Nuo, and the difference in their status was more than just a little bit.
"Xuan Feng, shut up," Nuwa raised her voice, expressing dissatisfaction.
Xuan Feng quickly shut his mouth, no longer planning to speak.
"Are you using your status to suppress me?" Sun Wukong retorted.
"No," Nuwa denied, "This is Xuan Feng’s doing."
Xuan Feng wanted to say something but was stopped by a look from Nuwa. He had no choice but to keep silent and take the blame in silence.
"Is that so," Sun Wukong didn’t believe it. He already knew Nuwa liked his master, so anything she did, in his eyes, had a purpose.
"Shopkeeper Chen had mentioned before about opening a shop, but I never expected he would open one here."
Focusing on this matter wouldn’t yield any results, so Nuwa turned her attention to this point.
Sun Wukong was surprised, "My master told you about this?"
"Besides you, did he only tell me?" Nuwa asked, astonished.
"Ah, aside from myself and the shop assistants, I only know about you," Sun Wukong replied honestly.
"Really?" Nuwa felt somewhat pleased. If that was true, didn’t it mean that she had a special place in Shopkeeper Chen’s heart?
"What’s true is true. There’s no need for me to lie about such matters."
But opening a shop wasn’t really a big deal; it wasn’t something that needed to be kept secret in the first place.
Presumably, the master hadn’t discussed the topic of opening a shop with anyone else. It just so happened he discussed it with Nuwa. It was only about opening a shop, yet she felt so happy. He didn’t understand what went through Nuwa’s mind.
"What’s your master’s attitude towards Yang Chan?" Nuwa wondered. She decided to ask the question.
Although she had to show magnanimity in front of Yang Chan, that didn’t mean she didn’t care. Yang Chan had known Chen Nuo for much longer than she had.
"My master?" Sun Wukong thought carefully, "He’s just like that, very amiable to people. All the customers that come to eat show the same response."
"So," Nuwa pinpointed the issue, "your master treats Yang Chan no different than the ordinary customers?"
"What do you mean by that?"
Nuwa paused. Could there really be some difference?
"Aren’t all those who come to eat considered guests? What else do you expect? My master to welcome them on a palanquin and send them off in the same manner after the meal?" Sun Wukong was puzzled by Nuwa’s words.
Nuwa grew even happier upon hearing Sun Wukong’s answers. So it seemed that Yang Chan was treated the same as any other customer by Chen Nuo.
She hadn’t fallen for Chen Nuo because he was particularly affectionate towards her; it was simply her own heart fluttering that made her fancy Chen Nuo.
Sun Wukong looked at Nuwa, puzzled, wondering what he had said that made her so happy.
Unable to contain her joy, Nuwa smiled and then said to Xuan Feng, "Let’s go, Xuan Feng. I have nothing more to ask. We should hurry back and make a reservation."
Recently, the patrons seemed to be in a rut, ordering the same few dishes as if there were no other options available.
Chen Nuo, however, was getting tired of preparing the same dishes, not to mention whether the patrons were tired of eating them. So, taking advantage of a break, Chen Nuo decided to develop a new dish.
