Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 405: Nuwa Visits, Fair Competition
Sun Wukong looked at Yang Chan, who was talking to herself, and felt as if he were facing some flood beast, "Well, you’re not in any trouble, are you? If there’s nothing wrong, leave quickly. I’ve finished handing out flyers and am getting ready to open for business tomorrow."
Having said something so dismissive, it looked like Sun Wukong truly felt taboo about the subject.
Yang Chan regretted telling Sun Wukong those words; if she hadn’t, she might have been able to enlist him as her ally.
Now that she had spoken, she had made Sun Wukong wary of her instead. This uncultured monkey was really frightening—unable even to understand an adjective.
Yang Chan had not planned to stay long anyway. As her words ceased, she took the Precious Lotus Lantern and stood up, "Did Shopkeeper Chen tell you whether he likes Nuwa or not?"
"My master would never like Nuwa," Sun Wukong said firmly.
Yang Chan was a bit surprised, "Why?"
"All you people are still fantasizing about dragging my master down with you, I’m telling you, that’s absolutely impossible. My master likes nobody; he only likes money. So, you all might as well save your efforts," Sun Wukong said, arms crossed over his chest.
If Chen Nuo were here, he would certainly have kicked Sun Wukong out. He may like money, but he also likes beautiful women. What if word got out? What if no women liked him in the future?
Naturally, Sun Wukong hadn’t thought that far; he’d only spoken out because what Yang Chan had said earlier was too terrifying, and he wanted to nip any budding interest in the cradle.
"What nonsense are you talking, you Sun Monkey? You don’t know what your master thinks, how can you make decisions for him?"
A brash voice came from outside the door, drawing the attention of everyone in the room. Yang Chan turned her head and saw Nuwa’s mount, Xuan Feng.
Sun Wukong wore an indifferent expression, "I can’t make decisions for my master, but I can certainly tell him to avoid trivial matters. That’s called risk avoidance; do you understand?"
Xuan Feng spoke to the person at the door, "Goddess, don’t listen to Sun Monkey’s nonsense; he’s just speaking carelessly without understanding."
Nuwa’s face was expressionless, maintaining the demeanor appropriate for a Saint. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
In reality, in the eyes of others, Nuwa had always maintained such a distant and noble posture, reverting to her true character only in Chen Nuo’s presence. Only Chen Nuo could make her forget her status as a Saint.
Yang Chan saluted Nuwa, "I pay my respects to Goddess Nuwa."
Nuwa nodded in acknowledgment.
In fact, Nuwa had clearly heard all of Yang Chan’s unspoken thoughts with her mind-reading abilities, but she did not intend to quibble over this with Yang Chan.
In Nuwa’s eyes, she would not consider a Junior Deity with only a few thousand years of cultivation, not even reaching a fraction of her own stature.
Yang Chan had already been extremely nervous even without facing Nuwa head-on, and knowing that her love rival was Nuwa made her even more flustered.
Especially with the deity herself standing in front of her, her imposing aura was so overwhelming that Yang Chan felt like she couldn’t even breathe. She really didn’t want to stay there any longer.
So, Yang Chan turned to Sun Wukong and said, "Chef Wukong, I will take my leave now."
"Go on, go on," Sun Wukong waved her off.
Yang Chan bowed to Nuwa again, "Goddess Nuwa, I’ll be leaving now."
Just as Yang Chan got up to leave, Nuwa stopped her, "Wait a moment."
Yang Chan paused and slowly turned her head back, "What is it?"
Nuwa looked Yang Chan up and down, "You like him, too."
Who "he" was went without saying, and even without mentioning a name, Yang Chan knew whom Nuwa meant.
If just a moment ago Sun Wukong had suggested Nuwa liked Chen Nuo, Yang Chan could have given herself a sliver of hope, thinking Nuwa merely admired Chen Nuo.
Perhaps that admiration made Sun Wukong mistakenly believe it was love; but now with Nuwa holding her back to ask if she too liked Chen Nuo, that left Yang Chan with no hope at all.
Indeed, even a Saint like Nuwa could fall for Chen Nuo.
"The Goddess asked you a question, why aren’t you answering?"
Yang Chan had not been responding, prompting Xuan Feng to ask impatiently, "What’s the matter with you, Little Immortal? How dare you neglect Goddess Nuwa?"
"Xuan Feng," Nuwa called out to Xuan Feng. "You are being naughty. Go back and you’ll be confined as punishment."
Xuan Feng was stunned; she had always spoken like that before, but Nuwa never actually punished her. Now, why would she be punished in front of a rival in love?
"Goddess," Xuan Feng looked at Nuwa with a face full of grievance.
Nuwa did not pay attention to Xuan Feng, instead turning her gaze toward Yang Chan, waiting for her response.
"Yes, I truly like him," Yang Chan nodded as she answered.
She had assumed Nuwa would use her status to suppress her, but instead, she had surprisingly punished her mount for speaking out of turn.
This made Yang Chan’s sense of crisis deepen. Nuwa was not only superior in cultivation but also in character, which was beyond Yang Chan’s reach.
"Why do you like him?" Nuwa asked Yang Chan, as if she were also asking herself.
She had only eaten a few meals prepared by Chen Nuo and yet found herself utterly attracted to him.
Before this, she seemed to have never taken interest in any person or thing, so whether she was attracted by Chen Nuo’s culinary skills or by Chen Nuo himself, she did not know.
"I..." Yang Chan suddenly found herself at a loss for words, truly unsure of where to begin.
She couldn’t pinpoint when exactly it started, but Chen Nuo’s image began to appear in her mind from time to time.
Was it from the first time she saw him, starting with the beef noodles, or from the times she kept coming to Chaos Residence with her brother?
Yang Chan couldn’t remember when she started liking Chen Nuo; she only knew that by the time she realized her feelings for Chen Nuo, he was already stuck in her heart like a thorn.
"It seems you aren’t clear either." Nuwa smiled.
Yang Chan was dazzled by Nuwa’s smile. She had already been so captivating when she first appeared that others couldn’t look away yet didn’t dare to keep gazing.
Now with this smile, all other things in the world seemed to lose their color; her smile was more radiant than everything else.
It was this kind of goddess who liked the same person as she did, and Yang Chan couldn’t help thinking how marvelous the world truly was.
"You don’t have to be afraid. Even though you’ve fallen for him, I won’t do anything to you," Nuwa thought Yang Chan was afraid to speak because of her.
Yang Chan nodded, "Alright."
"Having one more person fancy Chen Nuo shows that my judgment is not wrong; Chen Nuo indeed is an exceptional person. But I won’t be like those in the mortal realm, driving away the people by his side using schemes. I won’t harm you," Nuwa added.
Nuwa glanced at Yang Chan and continued, "We will compete fairly. I hope you don’t give up either; Chen Nuo is an extraordinary man. He won’t favor me just because of my status. Whether you like him or I like him, in the end, it’s up to him."
Yang Chan was indeed timid when it came to feelings, yet she had never intended to give up. Hearing Nuwa’s words, a sudden strength surged in Yang Chan’s timid heart.
"Thank you, Goddess Nuwa, but indeed, I have no intention of giving up," Yang Chan said.
"Is that so?" Nuwa smiled, surprised. She could not miss the feelings in Yang Chan’s heart with her own abilities, yet she kept her knowledge to herself. "Then you really surprise me; I thought you were weak, but it seems you are not."
"Just as Goddess Nuwa said, we will compete fairly," Yang Chan stated. "I will also use all my strength to pursue him."
"It’s good that you think this way," Nuwa nodded.
