Chapter 230: Chapter 230: They Actually Want Incense Power? This is the Foundation!

Even the master of Chef Wukong seemed a bit too exaggerated, it must be beautifully drawn, the Two Deities thought in unison.

But what they didn’t know was that the thing wasn’t a drawing at all, but a snapshot taken by the system after Chen Nuo finished each dish.

"Take a look for yourselves!" Sun Wukong was made uncomfortable by the Two Deities unconsciously pressing closer and closer to him.

He shoved the menu into the hands of the Kitchen God and quickly leapt away, but the Two Deities were already mesmerized and didn’t respond.

After a while, they finally came back to their senses.

"Shopkeeper Chen, I’ll have a roast leg of lamb!" the God of Cookery pondered for a moment, then respectfully said.

The Kitchen God glanced at the menu in his hands a few more times, chuckled and said, "Shopkeeper Chen, I want a serving of braised pork."

The colors were simply too rich, and after weighing his options, he still wanted to try this taste.

Chen Nuo nodded and said with a slight smile, "Then it’s time to pay."

He was just about to explain the rules when he was interrupted by Sun Wukong.

"Master, let me do this trivial thing!" Sun Wukong cheerfully volunteered.

He noticed the crystal ball placed in front of the new counter, strode over, turned his head to the Two Deities, and loudly said, "I’ll now show you how to pay!"

Sun Wukong put his furry monkey paw on top of the crystal ball in the correct fashion and explained, "You only need to do as I do, place your hand on top, and whatever the crystal ball reflects, you give that as payment -- it’s just like paying for a meal."

As soon as these words were spoken, the God of Cookery and the Kitchen God were confounded; this method of payment was too bizarre, something they had never seen before.

After finishing his explanation, Sun Wukong was the first to pluck out ten monkey hairs to pay; the Two Deities exchanged glances and approached, one after the other.

The God of Cookery tentatively placed his hand on the crystal ball, but upon receiving its feedback, his face drastically changed, and he retracted his hand as if shocked by electricity.

Then he cautiously extended his hand again, and yet again withdrew it, repeating the process over and over.

This strange behavior confused everyone watching.

"Old Shi, what are you doing?" Sun Wukong asked, puzzled.

After trying a couple more times to no avail, the God of Cookery sighed, a bit disappointed, "My meal is too expensive. I was hoping that by trying a few more times, it might become cheaper."

Chen Nuo’s mouth twitched, utterly speechless at the absurdity surrounding Wukong; they were all so peculiar—were they trying to glitch the system with him?

"This thing can only be used once, and it binds for a lifetime. Whatever feedback it gives you, that’s the cost of your meals for life," Chen Nuo explained dispassionately.

"Ah?" The face of the God of Cookery fell.

"But isn’t it a bit too expensive for me to eat a meal? It takes an entire strand of incense power!" the God of Cookery murmured discontentedly.

"What?" The Kitchen God who was standing aside was shocked. "It actually requires incense power?!"

These small deities didn’t have much to begin with; they all relied on incense power for their cultivation and to maintain their immortal power!

Sun Wukong scratched his head, clearly perplexed, "What’s incense power?"

"It’s the very lifeblood of us immortals!" the Kitchen God’s old face trembled as he said.

Following that, the God of Cookery and the Kitchen God took turns explaining to Sun Wukong what incense power was.

Sun Wukong, deep in thought, nodded his head; so that’s what it was.

It was similar to the power of faith.

However...

"But isn’t that pretty cheap?" Sun Wukong blurted out, "I’ve even seen a meal cost a Golden Immortal’s magical treasure."

Golden Immortal... magical treasure!

The God of Cookery and the Kitchen God were both dumbstruck; even if they sold themselves, they wouldn’t match the smallest fragment of a Golden Immortal’s magical treasure, yet it was just the price for a single meal?

The God of Cookery and the Kitchen God felt as if their fragile souls had been struck; the prices at this restaurant were ridiculously high!

The God of Cookery and the Kitchen God wanted to cry but had no tears as they looked at Chen Nuo with her kind and gentle smile, feeling a shiver run down their spines.

The God of Cookery had originally wanted to refuse the purchase, but his objection was forcibly stifled back down. Fine, it’s just for today’s meal, who cares if it’s good or bad, we just won’t come back!

With this thought, the God of Cookery reluctantly paid the bill, dawdling and dragging his feet.

It was the Kitchen God’s turn next. He closed his eyes tightly, muttering something under his breath as his palm reached toward the crystal ball.

"I’m also offering Incense Power!!!"

The next moment, the Kitchen God looked like he was in utter despair, but his thoughts were the same as the God of Cookery’s; he wouldn’t dare to retort even if he had eight extra guts.

He did so with the tragic resolve of a warrior going to his doom.

[Ding! Payment successful!]

Hearing the system notification in her mind, Chen felt a bit helpless seeing the pained expressions on the faces of the God of Cookery and the Kitchen God.

Would they have a fit if they knew that Tongtian would have to give up a Magical Treasure of the Golden Immortal level for just one meal?

The way these two were charged could be said to be the cheapest.

Getting gold and silver from that group of Immortals would not necessarily be more pleasing than giving up a whiff of Incense Power.

"Don’t worry! The dishes Master makes, once you’ve eaten them, you definitely won’t regret it!" Sun Wukong patted the two deities on the shoulder, offering a word of comfort.

"We definitely trust Shopkeeper Chen’s culinary skills," the two deities forced a wry smile onto their faces.

It was too late for regrets now, from the moment they had set foot in this place.

"Just find yourself a spot to sit for now, it’ll be ready soon," Chen Nuo called out as she walked toward the back kitchen.

Even though these two deities paid very little for their meal, Chen Nuo wouldn’t treat them coldly because of that. Plus, with the system’s guaranteed revenue, she wouldn’t be at a loss.

"Master, do you need my help?" Sun Wukong rushed to follow, taking two steps at a time.

His passion for cooking had always been fervent,

"Do I need you?" Chen Nuo shook her head: "Just take good care of your friends. Going into the back kitchen would just cause a mess." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Without a word, Sun Wukong just scratched his head, smiling as he led the two deities to a good spot by the window.

He then turned to Ao Ling by the counter and asked, "Um... Junior Sister, aren’t you coming to eat with us?"

"Ah?" Ao Ling was startled for a moment, then quickly shook her head and smiled, "No need, Senior Brother, I’ve already had my meal with the Master today, I can’t eat more."

Sun Wukong nodded, not asking further. This was just like back in his day; though he had taken a master, he could only eat one meal a day made by his master.

Usually, the master ate only once a day too. But when he felt like eating more out of a whim, his craving was intense. He was so eager to eat but couldn’t; it was torturous!

Not until his own culinary skills improved significantly and he could cook whatever he wanted, did he feel better. Junior Sister must be enduring the same struggle he had back then.

"Junior Sister, you must quickly improve your cooking skills. That way, it will be easier on you." After thinking for a bit, Sun Wukong solemnly offered his advice.

Not honing your culinary skills while in Chaos Residence just means suffering come mealtime.

"Okay!" Ao Ling nodded in agreement, sincerely wanting to learn her master’s culinary skills, she would certainly put in the effort.

"Hey, this seat is so comfortable!" the Kitchen God exclaimed as he sat down and bounced a little, fascinated.

The material was smooth and very soft; leaning back, the Kitchen God let out a long sigh. Getting older, all he wanted was to enjoy some comfort.

"Indeed! If only the Imperial Kitchen had chairs like these," the God of Cookery quickly chimed in.

He could sit on it for a year!

Really that amazing? A look of surprise flashed across Sun Wukong’s eyes, and he immediately plopped down onto it.

"Ah, so satisfying!

Another sound of contentment escaped.
