Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 229: Two Gods Visit Shopkeeper Chen
The God of Cookery and the Stove God’s faces flushed red with embarrassment; they had wanted to leave a good impression on Shopkeeper Chen.
Now it seemed they had to make the best of this mess. As veterans of bureaucracy, the God of Cookery and the Stove God immediately made the same move without delay.
They didn’t get up; instead, they just tucked their legs in and knelt on the ground, with their bodies leaning even lower, naturally presenting the gesture of worship.
"This humble Stove God."
"This humble God of Cookery."
"Pays respects to Shopkeeper Chen!"
The God of Cookery and Stove God said respectfully, without any eye contact or verbal communication between them, a silent understanding that comes from working together.
Jeez, they’re even doing a duet. Are they playing the straight man and the comic?
Chen Nuo quietly criticized in his mind, subtly sidestepping to dodge the two deities’ formalities.
He really hated this kind of fussy ceremonial etiquette.
However, seeing that the two deities still hadn’t budged, Chen Nuo raised an eyebrow and thought to himself, "Is the etiquette in the Heavenly Court always this ostentatious?"
Just now, these two people came up and sprawled on the ground with a ’thud.’ It gave him quite a start, and he thought they were about to pounce on him.
He hadn’t expected Haotian, that youngster, to be so particular about the show of things, demanding that immortals’ bowing gestures be so uniform.
Chen Nuo didn’t ask Sun Wukong if he would do the same because he believed that Wukong had never forgotten a single word he said and would never go against them.
"All right, get up," Chen Nuo said with a twitch of his mouth, and with a slight lift of his hand, a force lifted the two deities off the ground, straightening their posture and centering them, until they stood upright.
"Thank you, Shopkeeper Chen!"
The God of Cookery and the Stove God nodded and bowed repeatedly before finally straightening up and sorting out their clothes that had been disheveled from the big bow.
God of Cookery, Stove God...
Chen Nuo nodded thoughtfully, those names were obviously related to cooking, probably Wukong’s colleagues, he estimated.
"Ao Ling pays respects to Big Brother Apprentice!" Following them, Ao Ling showed deep gratitude on her face upon seeing Sun Wukong.
The sudden voice startled Sun Wukong, who instinctively jumped away from the spot.
He felt the face before him was vaguely familiar, yet he couldn’t quite place it.
Sun Wukong scratched his head, pondered a bit, and then it dawned on him. Wasn’t this the Little Dragon from the East Sea, the daughter of the Dragon King, Ao Guang?
And she was calling him Big Brother Apprentice?
Sun Wukong was taken aback. He knew he had referred this Dragon Girl to a master, but he hadn’t expected the connection to actually be established.
With a grin, Sun Wukong nodded and said, "Greetings to you, Junior Sister."
He remembered that his Junior Sister’s name was Ao Ling.
As soon as the Food God and Stove God saw Ao Ling come out, their expressions changed, and they hurriedly stepped forward to perform a grand salute.
"This Junior Deity, the Stove God, pays respects to Junior Sister of Chef Wukong!"
"This Junior Deity, the God of Cookery, pays respects to Junior Sister of Chef Wukong!"
The God of Cookery and the Stove God spoke with great reverence.
Ao Ling, however, was quite startled by the two deities’ exaggerated behavior. What was with kneeling and kowtowing right away?!
Seeing this, Chen Nuo lifted his hand again, and no matter how hard the two deities tried, they couldn’t bend their knees at all.
"We don’t need empty formalities here," Chen Nuo said indifferently.
The laid-back attitude didn’t escape the notice of the God of Cookery and the Stove God; Shopkeeper Chen was truly unfathomable!
Internally they marveled and began to respect him even more, their limited experiences leaving them with little knowledge of cultivation levels.
But anyone who could control their bodies so effortlessly was nothing short of awesome in their eyes!
Ao Ling also breathed a sigh of relief. The two deities’ behavior was a bit too abrupt for her, and she had hardly had any time to react.
"Master, what did you call me here for?" Sun Wukong, feeling the moment was right, rubbed his hands together and grinned.
Chen Nuo frowned and did not immediately answer Sun Wukong’s words.
"What, can’t you come if there’s nothing wrong?"
"Not at all! What are you talking about?" Sun Wukong was extremely awkward, waving his hands and shaking his head repeatedly.
"Master is joking. I was actually planning to come back and take a look these days when I had nothing to do, and just when Master was looking for me, I came straight back."
Chen Nuo gave Sun Wukong a faint glance, and wordlessly rolled her eyes.
"Didn’t expect you to become all monkey spirit just after a short while out. I’ll have to see a ghost to believe you. We’ll talk about what I need you for later, have you brought them here to eat?"
With that, Chen Nuo stretched out a hand towards the Food God and Stove God.
The Two Deities shivered.
The God of Cookery exclaimed repeatedly, "Shopkeeper Chen! We have long admired your culinary skills, please let us have a glimpse."
The Kitchen God was not to be outdone, "Shopkeeper Chen, we’ve heard Chef Wukong say your culinary skills are unrivaled in the world, and we simply couldn’t resist, so we took this opportunity to come!"
Unrivaled in the world, long admired?
Chen Nuo nodded, casting a subtle glance at Sun Wukong, not expecting Wukong to have praised him so much outside.
"Master, they were all blown away by the dishes you taught me, so when they saw old Sun was coming back, they all clamored to follow and open their eyes," Sun Wukong explained from the side.
Just coming to eat, Chen Nuo thought helplessly. What’s with the seriousness? He wasn’t going to let them eat for free.
"They know my rules, right?"
Sun Wukong patted his chest, "Master, rest assured, they will definitely not eat for free!"
"Exactly, exactly! We’ll pay!" The Two Deities nodded vigorously.
The Kitchen God even thumped his chest confidently, "Shopkeeper Chen, you’re underestimating us. Do we look like those kinds of people to you?"
"Well then..." Chen Nuo shrugged nonchalantly, and with a thought, the menu on the table was drawn towards him, "The menu is here, decide for yourselves what you want to eat."
Chen Nuo instructed softly.
Sun Wukong took the menu, grinning, "I haven’t tasted my master’s cooking for a while. I’ve been dying for it!"
Chen Nuo did not play along, instead retorting directly, "Didn’t you come for hot pot last time? It hasn’t been many days."
"Isn’t that ’a single day apart feels like three autumns’?" Sun Wukong, unabashed, said with a cheeky grin.
It had been more than ten years, and he’d always react this way when his master said such things.
Bowing his head, Sun Wukong looked over the menu in his hand, a glint of novelty in his eyes.
"Master, did you change the menu?"
"The house is renovated, why keep the old menu?" Chen Nuo said as a matter of course.
That makes sense, Sun Wukong scratched his head, flipping the menu open. Seeing the exquisite pictures, his eyes lit up.
The painting of each dish, just like what master would make, amazed him. He had been apprenticed for ten years and had been eating for ten years.
In the world, aside from master himself, he could say that he was the most familiar with the dishes, without a rival.
He didn’t even need to eat them; he could smell and see the quality and know which ones were done by his master.
After much consideration, Sun Wukong mused, "Master, I’ll have a plate of egg fried rice!"
Ever since his Divine Skills awakened, and with more dish options available, he hadn’t eaten it for a long time. Now, looking at the lifelike picture of egg fried rice,
he couldn’t help but remember the plate he’d eaten the first time he came to Chaos Residence, the same appearance, and Sun Wukong felt somewhat nostalgic.
After Sun Wukong had ordered, the Two Deities eagerly crowded over, stretching their necks to look. They were instantly captivated by the beautiful pictures, and looking at that color, the Two Deities were somewhat astonished.
Could these dishes really be made to look like this?
Thinking of their own cooking, they felt inferior in an instant, even Chef Wukong’s weren’t as good-looking, right!
